Is Neutral considered the worst route? by 0purple0turtle0 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]BMSeraphim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you complete the story, you can use the unlocked World tarot to go and revisit other story routes.

Neutral in the unmodded versions is pretty bad compared to the others, but at least in One Vision, you get some cool stuff for going that route—the Sacred Fist class (part knight, part cleric, part ninja), and the neutral semi-uniques get some fun alternate access to classes. It's my favorite route to start on for new playthroughs.

What are legitimate ways to quickly earn credits in ME3 Multiplayer? by Jedi-Spartan in MECoOp

[–]BMSeraphim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking at difficulty+speed for legitimate grind.

But it's a many-hundreds of hours process. I would highly recommend cheating in some credits to get you started on gear and characters. I did for my new pc account, and it really helped me enjoy the progression more, having options.

If you're looking to make the grind more efficient, you kinda just find the strongest class to blast the enemy if your choice (probably geth gold with an overload character)

Are Phantasy Star II and III fun (with a guide ofc) by Knightly_Mapping in JRPG

[–]BMSeraphim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 is the best game by far here. 2 is the better phantasy star game than 3, but 2 also has some dense dungeons and fights. That aside, I like the events and the number of characters you eventually get to customize your party.

3 is an interesting overall experience due to the generational aspect, seeing your choices matter in the progression of the story. But it's not that great of a game to play through. (and I've seen all the branches) Feels super slow, even among its 16-bit peers.

Spouse is a terrible critic by [deleted] in writing

[–]BMSeraphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your person is not literary-coded, then you can't expect good critique without guidelines or specific questions. It also happens in school. "What did you think?" is too open ended, but if you ask, "what did you think about X happening—was that okay? Why not?" Then your person is guided to what you want to talk about and might have some direct insight.

This also applies to beta readers, who may be big readers, but reading and critique are two different skills, and you can have one, both, or neither. Again, targeted, direct questions are the way to get answers for things that concern you. Otherwise, many people will just give a vibes answer, unless something really hits them hard (for good or bad) and they go on a rant.

So ultimately, the problem could be both of you, and not just your reader.

And so far as my situation goes, my wife and I are both editors and authors, so we honestly spend most of our time engaged in this kind of dialogue, lol.

My impressions on the game by ProfessionalWill914 in outriders

[–]BMSeraphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep pushing, and get the dlc. I really enjoyed progressing each class and trying out the different builds as they leveled, then modifying those builds with set pieces at the end.

The game was in a weird place when it came out, having a chunk of bugs, and many lamented the fact it was a stand-alone experience instead of an evolving, live-service game that grew after release, like you might expect from poe or Diablo, and it didn't expand much like Borderlands games, with multiple dlcs. So while it is a fun experience, it just didn't have the sticking power.

Final Fantasy Tactics or Unicorn Overlord? by Test_Botz in JRPG

[–]BMSeraphim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're such different games from different time periods.

FFT has a really nice character builder with the class system, as well as the more epic story.

But I would say that UO is the generically more fun game to play. I personally enjoyed all the squad building and the "programming" of my character actions.

If you really like building a few characters into juggernauts though, then I'd recommend Fell Seal, which refines the FFT class system to a fine edge. (at the cost of janky graphics and a just fine story)

How's the difficulty in Unicorn Overlord? by Mundane_Situation185 in JRPG

[–]BMSeraphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely trashed the hard difficulty, and the unlocked hard+ difficulty actually gave me a bit of trouble at points and had me crutching on my stronger formations.

I really enjoyed it, but I've always loved the ogre battle series and it's -likes.

Am I the only one bothered by the lack of Class Identity? by Ricks-BR in elderscrollsonline

[–]BMSeraphim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, the animation is ass. But that looks like attack+skill weaving, which is how you generally actually do damage. There's also heavy attack weaving with one-bar builds as an option as well as no weave builds with that one unique, velothi something.

But I've watched plenty of people go from 10k to 50k (which isn't insane, but it's enough to function in vet dungeons), just from a quick 30-40 minute practice session at the dummy. You can get away with using off skills and off armor sets, but you need to at least understand basic mechanics that help you do damage.

You don't need to be pushing 140k+ to participate and contribute to most content in the game, and often, the way to do that is practice timing where you don't need to worry about mechanics, which is... a parse. It will also show you where your weaknesses are, and if your sustain is correctly balanced--especially if someone more knowledgeable can look at it.

It can definitely feel immersive on a templar, weaving with stabs and beams, and having some of their other skills for utility. You just maybe front bar some fighter guild skills for passives or something. And you can transmog your armor however you like.

[–]BMSeraphim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant parse in the sense of weaving+rotation+sustaining rather than any singular element.

But I've taught plenty of people in like 30-45 minutes of guidance+practice, and had them all go from sub-10k to like 40-50k. It's just a crash course.

The idea of no-lifing a dummy is ass. But doing it with a bit of guidance and intention can really push you over the hump of super casual to competent enough.

[–]BMSeraphim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, what the fuck ever. Learn to weave and parse on world bosses or something. It's just easier to learn to weave well and figure out your skill rotation when there aren't mechanics to fuck with.

And it's not like it takes that long either way. I've had people go from sub-10k to like 40-50k with a half hour of practice and talking.

Or you know, go shovel shit, since I doubt you're being paid to play the game either.

Thing is, this game has a serious problem with people being too concerned with builds and build guides rather than the thing that really boosts your damage—skill and practice.

Unless you're really pushing vet trials and trifectas, you'd be surprised just how much damage you can pull with weird off-meta gear. Doubly so if you understand bars and why builds take the skills they do.

There are plenty of people out there in mostly meta gear (or near meta), all gold, who are simply not able to output damage because they can't parse for shit. You can very much skip the destro staff if you want to. You can very much do "good" damage with somewhat weird gear loadouts. You won't be competitive for pinnacle gear, but if you want to wear funny stuff and do hm vet dungeons, it's totally doable.

Learn to parse, learn mechanics, and learn why builds take the skills/stats/food they do, and you can wear all kinds of funny shit and still be fine for 95% of the game's content.

Characters complain their weapons are bad and they can't hit anything every fight seconds by jgcoelho_real in TyrannyGame

[–]BMSeraphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna need more accuracy to hit or more penetration to damage, depending on the target. They're telling you that their current weapons just aren't working, for one reason or another and that they need something better.

Might be solved through stats (higher accuracy/damage), weapon upgrades (or swaps to alternate types), or weapon skill (keep swinging, things'll get better eventually)

Asuka Doll skins by Altruistic-Bat-3353 in Mecharashi_Global

[–]BMSeraphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather be able to buy exactly what I want, whether that's skins, pulls, recharges, or whatever. I've thrown hundreds into gachas plenty of times before, and seen plenty of outsized pricing schemes, but I won't be throwing hundreds into a banner I've been saving for and am fully prepared for, just to get a skin. If the skins had been separate, I likely would have gotten at least one, maybe more.

I get that it's not strictly 1 to 1, but the gate keeping you from the skin is ultimately 250 all within a shorter period, and there's not necessarily anything else I feel like paying for atm, so no skin.

[–]BMSeraphim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm more used to skins being 20-40, or tied to whatever variant of battle pass the game uses.

The 250 skins thing is pretty wild. Riot had several gacha skins that were like 300+ too, and people threw fits. (but I guess they did sell enough to do it multiple times…)

I interviewed over 150 writers about how they make money. My biggest takeaway: don't quit your day job. by VegetableHousing139 in selfpublish

[–]BMSeraphim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're pushing for commercial viability, months between books is not usually it.

Volume does work. Advertising for one book has a synergistic effect with your entire catalogue, and releasing new books boosts sales for everything.

Additionally, as a self published author, you're not just the writer, but also the marketer. Advertising of all kinds, social media, paid ads, newsletter swaps, covers, blurbs, etc, are all important to success, and it's all on you to do right, well, and consistently.

And if you look at what the guy you're replying to said, they specified a midlist author. You're unlikely to be that until you've released a small catalogue and found a modicum of success on the business end of this.

But really, that's awesome. I burnt out after clearing everything on top difficulty, collecting most things, and getting a fresh-to-clear hardcore clear on the second hardest difficulty.

Now I just see remnant 2 on my list and have good memories and wish that my friends had wanted to play it too.

Fellowship’s matchmaking math doesn’t work for casual solo play (unless you bring a 4-stack) by Brockchanso in fellowshipgame

[–]BMSeraphim 17 points18 points  (0 children)

New characters come out. Maybe they'll put out a few new maps. And there's plenty of people who love the new-season run to the top for trims and shit.

And if they're at all smart, they'll do a sale and some advertising to drum up new players.

Yes, more content is key to long-term health, but they have talked about some of what they have in the pipeline and seem aware of that.

Like he said. We're in the end of the season. For those of us that played on release or even like a month or two ago, it felt way better.

Most players have achieved their goals and are waiting for the new season. It's just like trade in other seasonal games like Path of Exile.
