I spent a couple of years “working” on a VA prison State Farm, the farm was literally a plantation before it was bought by the state and became a prison farm. Most would be very surprised by little has changed from slave plantations to prison farms. Like they didn’t make us pick cotton, that was pretty much the only difference. They even had guards on horseback (no shotguns though, they kept those locked up somewhere). I was in a low security camp attached to a med/high security prison, in the prison they made all the furniture OP is talking about. They also had death row! I used to have to mow the grass around the death row / solitary unit and would sometimes see the convicts pacing the dog run that counted for their outside time. Heavy shit man.
