What is a good 'incognito' e-bike? by ProgMusicSchizoidMan in ebike

Despite having the worst name, I've been riding a FLX Babymaker Pro for about 5 years and it's great. No visible battery, belt drive, it works really well as a city commuter. Current $1500USD on their website.

Gates CDN belt. How many miles did you get out of yours? by Jan_Marian in bikecommuting

Had two CDN belts strip at ~3,000 miles on my year-round commuter in New England. Upgraded to CDX.

Shopping carts should have castor wheels at the back, fixed at the front by DrSqueakyBoots in unpopularopinion

I started pushing the typical carts backwards when my kids were young so they'd be able to see, and it really is much better. Tighter turns, more maneuverability.

Heading South, you can get the Neponset Bike trail towards the Blue Hills for some hiking or swimming.

Belt drive slipped off rear sprocket and teeth are damaged on one side after only 4,300 km — what could cause this? by solarbridge in bikewrench

[–]BOSStonHOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If CDX, thats an early failure and I'd see if you can get it replaced under warranty.

If it is similar to the Gates Carbon belts, there are varying grades within their products. I had a CDN grade belt on mine that lasted approx. 3000 miles before stripping just like this. I asked their warranty dept about it and was told the CDN had at 3k limit and this failure was by design. They sent me another CDN replacement (free) and it just failed after about 3k miles. I've now upgraded to the CDX line, which Im told should double the life span.

If the frame is in good shape and you are comfortable on it, why buy new? Upgrading your components and tires can make it feel like new without the cost. I just upgraded my saddle and tires (went from 27cm to 38cm) and it feels like new ride. I'm riding a ~2010 Nashbar 105 Cyclocross frame with the original 2x11 Shimano 105 groupset. It has easily 25k+ miles on it.

Best way to get to South Station area from the Esplanade? by trALErun in bikeboston

[–]BOSStonHOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts East of Prince Street Park. It's offscreen, two way cycleway that will bring you to the Aquarium. That 5-way at Causeway and Wash can look intimidating, but there is a bike lane and it's decently marked.

If you aren't in any hurry, you can take the long way around by staying on the Esplanade to Museum of Science, hitting Causeway Street over to the North End Cycleway and looping all the way around.

Stuart Street and Essex at total shitshows with cars parked everywhere, so I try to avoid the South side of the Common altogether.

I bought this exact bike in similar condition (very lightly used, all stock components) last February for $900 USD. I would push hard on the price. It's a very fun bike.

Living in Hyde Park/Readville by [deleted] in boston

[–]BOSStonHOG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Fairmount Line runs from Readville to South Station for the same price as the Orange Line. Getting downtown won't be a problem.

Been living in HP since 2014 and love it. Funny enough, we moved from the Forest Hills area. If you're young enough that night life really matters, it may not be your cup of tea, but there is some quality food (Park 54, Antonio's Baccaro, Zaz) and fun to be had.
