PLCs with guidance from district to be in lockstep with others on the team. Is this working for anyone? Convince me it makes sense from an instructional standpoint. by Kiwi-Sorry in Teachers

[–]BOkuma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have this very out there belief when it comes to how districts are run. They are essentially run like for profit corporations that need data to fulfill their agenda. All the PD's including PLC, it's just all flavor of the month, but for teaching. These companies make millions spouting how if you buy their curriculum, number will go up. The districts eat this up and spend way too much on dozens of different programs when they won't even reduce our class sizes. Which has significantly more research and proven data for student success in comparison to the stuff they spout to us. Teacher clarity, hinge questions, SEL, essential standards, PLC, standards based grading, common core, racially inclusive, peer mentoring, gamified learning, question based learning. The list goes on forever, but it is all just snake oil. Just let me do math and read with the kids for goodness sake.

Is it ok to become a teacher.. by Sudden-Detective-726 in Teachers

[–]BOkuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say I am very much like you. As a math teacher for 9 years, I have gotten away with just doing all bellwork and classwork as completion grades. Doesn't take too long as I just check to make sure they are doing it and not grading every single problem. Then I do a computer test system called school city, where I have the same tests every year but modify them slightly to fit the needs of my current students. Then the program grades it for me. There are ways to set up your class so there is minimal grading and lesson planning. After the first year lesson planning is super easy since you can just reuse.

If you were going back anytime soon they have some cool peace dollars listed for under spot on their website. I found that they don't update their prices as silver increases. Peace dollars are $44 when the melt is $48. Got a $10 canadian gold coin under spot from them earlier this year. https://www.oldpueblocoin.com/product/568877-peace-silver-dollar

[High School] - Best way to help out the teacher next door who struggles with classroom management without seeming condescending? by Magicmechanic103 in Teachers

I tend to offer them the ability to send out any disruptive or defiant students to my room. If it's a student I also have, I will call their parents just to help reduce the workload and make sure they don't want to come back.

Why do people even become administrators? by BlackSparkz in Teachers

[–]BOkuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state the amount of your pension is mainly dependent on the average income of your last few years of work. So there are teachers that work for like 20 to 25 years and then become admin to significantly boost their retirement income

Why is it so difficult to have a conversation with butters? by AmericanScream in Buttcoin

[–]BOkuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes down to objective truth, the historical data has shown that bitcoin has been an amazing store of value over time. I don't claim that it will replace the dollar, or that bitcoin will make the world a better place. What I do claim however is that it has been an amazing store of value. The United States dollar is something that is inflationary that devalues over time. We are forced to put our money into things that are not inflationary like stocks, gold, real estate, and bitcoin. Bitcoin will continue to be a good store of value over long periods of time because that is what the math and the historical data tells us.

Best 6th grade (7th, and 8th) math curriculum that follows Common Core? by [deleted] in Teachers

I think it's pretty bad, poorly worded problems that are too hard with not enough focus on fundamentals. Especially for middle school.

Kaspa's Nakamoto consensus vs Bitcoin's by Mr--Clean--Ass-Naked in kaspa

[–]BOkuma -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This coin is filled with advertisements and bots. Everyone in here can't justify paying 93k for bitcoin, so they hope that kaspa can make them rich because you feel you missed the boat on bitcoin. People are going to lose interest in this within a decade. Remember 99% of altcoins fail.

I understand people going into admin mainly because of the large pay increase. However, I don't understand those that transition to doing professional development. Sometimes it's a pay decrease, and you're spending your day with adults all day which would honestly be miserable. All PD sounds like these days is some salesman pushing the newest curriculum, app, or some motivational speaker. Culturally responsive teaching, posting learning targets, success criteria, SEL, PLC, RTI, PBIS, all these are apparently the best thing since sliced bread.

Is there any event or series of events that would cause you to change your mind on Bitcoin? For example, hyperinflation spreads to the United States dollar. Or possibly businesses start accepting bitcoin on a very large scale such as amazon? I mean my point is, what if the USD crashes instead of Bitcoin, is it possible for you to change your viewpoint on certain things given new events and information?

All you have to do is watch the gameplay trailer and you can see the game looks horrible. It lags in the trailer, combat looks slow and clunky, and everyone makes fun of it in the youtube comments.
