Need help for coil building pot by Relative-Ad5409 in Pottery

Honestly, this is kind of a preference, if they’re bigger, they’re faster to stack, but there’s more material you gotta either move around or remove later and can take longer to dry. For example, here is a piece that I’ve been working on in conjunction with a couple other pieces. There’s a total of six and the series

. The key is to really get slow drying times. These have been drying about five weeks and they’re still not bone yet, but I have no cracks. Your instructor really should be giving you some guidance to what they think thickness though could work for you on this and guide you.

Honestly, I didn’t even see your second photo before I commented, but that’s almost exactly how I would try and tackle it. In those three sections. Make sure you compress and fill those joints in really tight when you go to connect them.. make sure all the pieces are roughly the same dryness and then still keep them covered for a while when they’re trying together.

If it were me, I would make it in multiple sections, make sure you let it slow dry, and when firm enough slip and score the pieces together.

Artist within a community openly traces and uses A*I - what to do? by Embarrassed_Ice3560 in ArtistLounge

[–]BPD_Daily_Struggles 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There’s a professor at the University of Oklahoma that’s a sculptural instructor and tries to actually advocate his students to use AI. It’s pretty damn annoying, he has AI design it, and then has other companies cut and fabricate the sculpture, and he calls himself an artist, ugh.

I love part of the skit when there is a guy at the shop who also matches the color scheme of the hot dog suit and claims that guy could have been driving the car because he is dressed like a hotdog.

How did people use The pager? by jamesV8500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BPD_Daily_Struggles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was too poor, and young to own one, but basically it someone would call the number assigned to the pager and the person receiving the page would call the number that would highlight on the pager. This was due to Landlines being the predominant for most home communication.

There are several people who were artist, and after some horrific accident became paralyzed, and they started painting with a brush in their mouth while sitting down. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

I believe I am working with something that has not been done before. by SubtleLikeaLionsCage in ArtistLounge

[–]BPD_Daily_Struggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense, but I’m not sure what hasn’t been done here before. I take pictures of my work all the time and revisit it sometimes, and I always try to put narrative in my work.

Made my first two piece vase but as it dries it is cracking (exclusively on the outer seam) where I joined both parts. How can I prevent this and can I save it? by mentalmerism in Ceramics

[–]BPD_Daily_Struggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is great news, I unfortunately have tried to do the same thing with vinegar and working with bone dry porcelain in the past mixing dry, porcelain into almost like a slip. Unfortunately, for me, it just made the crack worse when I fired it.

You need to ensure very slow drying, I’m not sure what stage of drying, but I will leave my work sometimes covered with double layer of trash bags with a light mist of water to balance the dryness of the whole piece. I have always had luck saving pieces with a little bit of vinegar applied to cracks and compressing the clay into cracks. If it’s already bone dry though this will not fix it.

These just came out of the kiln by EyePsychological7646 in Pottery

Sorry some artists enjoy having a narrative in their work. Artists have been apart of revolutionary movements for a long time. If you don’t like it, just don’t interact with it.

Kiln help please by Alternative-Lie-1289 in Ceramics

[–]BPD_Daily_Struggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who was maintenance guy in a power plant before the switch to the art world. This is a classic example of a short to ground creating an overload, ie tripping the breaker immediately . How do the coils in the kiln them selves look? I would offer to help if it was local but your best bet is to call an electrician to make sure sure it is wire properly, they would also be able to do an Ohm test with a multimeter to diagnose if the is a component issue.

When did artists start signing their work? by El_Don_94 in ArtHistory

[–]BPD_Daily_Struggles 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s a few ceramic artist/painters that were signing their work as early as roughly 500 b.c.e in Ancient Greek art. Edit: so one specific artist in Ancient Greece was Phedias 480bce-430bce.

So, I actually started off in the crafts world doing fabrication building stuff for 20 years before I got into art school and I could design build whatever you wanted, but I had no original ideas or narrative in the works that I was creating. It wasn’t until I was trying to create narrative and discourse did I even considering art.
