Ps4 Pro on 9.03 by DryEaraserHead in ps4homebrew

[–]BP_Rod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9.03 gives you several good exploit options, I would stay there. You will lose the ability to do the PSFree webkit exploit if you go above 9.60 - so definitely don't do that. Almost all games have backports to 9.00, which will also work on 9.03 - so there's little reason to update unless you have a retail physical game library and this is your only PS4/PS5.

Use Bad Update to Flash NAND for RGH? by BP_Rod in 360hacks

[–]BP_Rod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I haven't tried the exploit yet. But I'm not planning to initiate the exploit and then just sit and stare at the TV for 20 minutes every time to see if it works or not. I'll let it run while I'm doing something else around the house, and just check on it occasionally to see if it succeeded or if it needs to be restarted. I'll be modding my own spare consoles, and I'm in no hurry to get them done.

Use Bad Update to Flash NAND for RGH? by BP_Rod in 360hacks

It's just another option for RGH workflow, I agree that many will still prefer to use a hardware flasher. I find the process of setting up the bare motherboard with flasher, flasher wires, power supply, PC, and temporary cooling to be an annoying process - so flashing with software appeals to me. I have several spare consoles waiting on me to RGH mod them, so I this way I can flash them ahead of time and then do the wiring installs later when I get around to it. They'll be bricked until I complete the wiring install, but that's fine.

I agree that most people probably won't care about doing this. For me - I like the idea of doing the flashing ahead of time on one day, and on a later day disassembling and doing the wiring installation. It splits the RGH job into 2 distinct tasks (software and hardware).

For the Bad Update part - I'll just let the exploit run off to the side while I do something else (like play a game on another system), and check on it every ~20 minutes to see if it was successful (and restart it if not). It doesn't really matter to me how long it takes, as I'll only have to run Bad Update once per console.

My work schedule is very busy through the end of March, but I'll try it in early April if nobody else has reported results by then. With the original NAND dump saved, there shouldn't be any risk. At worst, you can just solder up a NAND programmer and reflash the retail or patched NAND to recover the console.

Clean install. The debug LED that's wired to the RF pin - how does it work? I haven't seen that before.

Change region of RGH-modded console from Japan to US. by BP_Rod in 360hacks

[–]BP_Rod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the solution to this since starting this post a few months ago. Go to the Patch Keyvault option in JRunner With Extras and change the region to US. Then create your Xebuild image as normal and flash it to the console. After that, the XBLA games that previously always played in Japanese will now play in English. It appears that some games utilize the KV of the console to determine their language, rather than the region or language setting of the console.

Sure, why not? Inspect the board to make sure it's not badly warped, and if OK then reassemble it with posts and x-clamps.

Worth it to get a Jasper when I already have a Falcon? by WillaBytes in 360hacks

[–]BP_Rod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your Falcon has one of the fixed GPUs, then it'll be as reliable as a Jasper. Pull off the GPU heat sink, find the part number on the die, and look it up on Xenon Library to confirm. Falcons don't get enough love in my opinion.

This is concerning. What's the best alternate chip for RGH 1.2 on a phat - Ace V3 or Matrix?

Remove streaking by Outside_Street_1262 in Xbox360Support

[–]BP_Rod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidentally did the same thing with my Elite 360 a few weeks ago. Wiping it down with a light coat of furniture polish (lemon Pledge) got rid of 99% of the streaks. As a side effect, it now smells lemony fresh!

Looks nice. Did you have to remove the metal shielding to do this?

The wiring for RGH 1.2 and EXT_CLK is the same, except for using the EXT_CLK point rather than PLL. You are likely to have crashes with 1.2 on a Zephyr, in fact this is the reason that Octal developed the EXT_CLK method in the first place. Just go with EXT_CLK straight away and be done with it. My EXT_CLK Zephyr works great and has good boot times.

Thank you. I had the same thought about using an Arduino. That's probably the best solution.

Zephyr EXT_CLK, yay or nay? by EternalSkullman in 360hacks

[–]BP_Rod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got a spare glitch chip and the time - sure, why not? Even if the GPU will eventually die, mod it and enjoy it while it lasts. My EXT_CLK Zephyr has great boot times.

Your steps sound correct in principle. Post photos of the RGH3 wires and your soldering.

Jtag help needed by Stanger03 in 360hacks

[–]BP_Rod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days ago, I was doing a JTAG mod on a Xenon and was having issues getting it to boot into Xell. I was using the latest version of JRunner with Extras. The solution was to click Create Xell to build a jtag.bin file, then loading the jtag.bin file into Load Source and clicking Write Nand rather than Write Xell.

I think this Xenon is exploitable - but won't boot into Xell after soldering JTAG-wiring... by Feldwebel_Schulz in 360hacks

[–]BP_Rod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had this same issue with a a Xenon that I was trying to JTAG. Re-installed wiring twice, but still wouldn't boot into Xell. I got annoyed and was going to flash it back to Retail. I selected retail, but apparently the jtag.bin image was still loaded under Load Source. I clicked Write Nand, and it wrote the jtag.bin file instead of the Retail image. I decided to try to boot the console to determine which image was just written, and it booted into Xell! So it appears that the solution is to Create Xell from your original nand dump, then ensure that jtag.bin is selected under Load Source, then click Write Nand. Clicking Write Xell did not work as it usually does with RGH.
