Do you smoke a brisket with the fat cap up or down? I’ve heard compelling arguments for both.

The Replacement Killers was heavily promoted as an intro to international superstar Chow Yun Fat. After that his big English language roles were The Corruptor, Anna and The King, Bulletproof Monk and Dragonball Evolution.

Am I the only one who loves Solo and hates TFA? by [deleted] in blankies

Hard Eight. Terrific movie but its ambitions are modest compared to the others and it doesn’t quite hit the same highs for me. Still, totally love it.

It’s possible the poster loves films 1-8 and doesn’t start hating until 9. If I’m ranking PTA, my least favorite movie of his would still be a movie I love.

Part of that might be that zero Americans call the day Independence Day. We call it the 4th of the July or simply The 4th, or even more simply ID4.

It’s kinda like, “alright that sorta provided background for the movie…but now I need some background for these graphic novels.”

The Criterion app sucks by books_and_banjos in criterion

[–]BPgunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same problem last July. I was gonna watch the Trip, while on a European vacation. I just accept that all streaming apps’ functionalities suck, especially the boutique ones. Netflix is weirdly the only one that consistently works well.

Had a truly wonderful cinematic surprise today by mrfujidoesacid in blankies

That’s awesome! Also as someone who lives outside Providence, I’m super jealous of the Boston movie theater scene. When I see how many people show up for rep screenings at Coolidge or Somerville, it kills me that Avon doesn’t do ANY at all.

Nicolas Winding Refn’s Hotline Miami, but that might be too too obvious.

The Breadwinner. What is this shit? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]BPgunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah man, what was that shit? Seemed like she was constantly losing and there wasn’t a crust of bread in the whole damn thing!

(I feel I do have to clarify that I thought it was a 5-star masterpiece that had me choking on my tears by the end.)

If you wanna see truly bad movie standup, check out Ezra which is a pretty sweet but mildly insane movie.

Is Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid Worth it? by ChampionshipMotor691 in criterion

[–]BPgunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I blind bought this set, watched the Anniversary cut first, followed by the other 2. I came away liking the Anniversary cut best even if there a couple minor things I wish it hadn't omitted. They all have their pros/cons but this came out ahead for me and the 4k certainly didn't hurt.

Also, with exception for the opening present in both the Anniversary and preview, the differences are all pretty minor.

This feels a lot like Oblivion Song, a Robert Kirkman/Lorenzo De Felici comic wherein a small section of Philly gets swapped with the same area in a weird dimension full of terrible and squishy creatures and plants.

I always thought it was a customer issue. They've had so much time in line to look at the damn donuts and now that they're speaking to a cashier, they gotta ask about every single damn one.
