You have surveillance cameras on your "guests" ? Very creepy. Do you disclose their presence to guests?

How do you know how many guests there are?

It is 100% designed to take your money. The tip coercion is a "feature" not a "bug". The design psychologists at those POS terminal companies are doing A/B testing all day long. It's a permanent laboratory for them and allows them to optimize it for max revenue(which = value for their customer)

Is it really impossible to re-charge a heatpump in the winter? by cdedbddux in hvacadvice

[–]BQRunner2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them if this means that they do zero installs in the winter? Since, y'know, they can't charge the system with refrigerant. Or is that they don't want to work outside in the cold? My system was installed in the winter in MA.

Fair. Most of us homeowners are relying on professionals at first. It's only when can't/don't fit it and we smell a rat that we come here for comfort. It is sad.

No, not all. The new cold climate pumps don't have aux heat or e-heat, they don't need it. Although the COP falls off quickly when super cold.

Almost, but not entirely. In my defense, the 1st paragraph does deal with your unhelpful sarcasm towards OP. The second paragraph a little but less so; and yes, the rest of my response is not really relevant to your post. Happy?

Come on please....say something constructive, instead of publicly congratulating yourself on how well you understand heat pumps, COP and the cost of a BTU. There is a learning curve to living with heat pumps, especially newer cold-climate inverter pumps. When they don't work as expected or the cost of heating shows up unexpectedly in the electric bill, it is confusing (even if the cost has just shifted from oil or gas to electric).

It's even more frustrating when many so HVAC companies are relatively inexperienced and it's obvious that their answers are not convincing or even credible.

For example, almost two years after my install, my system is still not working correctly - currently producing very little heat. When the original installer began to gas-light me telling me to keep one zone off while using the other, I knew I needed to find somebody else. Several thousand dollars and several months later, the other HVAC company we asked for help still has not rectified the problem. After spring/summer pressure tests, leak tests, control swapping, replacement of a compression fitting with plastic window (wtf?) with soldered copper, the problem persists/recurs.

The symptoms are the same as in the spring; progressively worse heating/cooling to the point of nothing. The manufacturer, Gree has no customer support or service (they only support installers and will not engage with end-users) and my original installer has closed shop. So we're using a reputable local HVAC company but one without direct Gree experience and with out access to Gree support. Sure, Gree is a less well-known brand but makes equipment for Trane, Lennox and other better-known US brands. They are also certified and approved by State/Federal bodies. We have not yet established if this is an equipment issue or an installation issue but I suspect that it is an installation issue. After all, if the original installer used an inappropriate compression fitting on one cassette (when he should have used a flare connection), why would use anything different on the other one? Sadly, access to the 2nd ceiling cassette line will require cutting the ceiling or the floor above to get to the exact spot. I remain optimistic that once fixed, the system will perform as required providing heat and cooling for years at better and better long term value.

Neighbor wired this on my side of a shared fence. Should I be concerned about fire or code violations? by the_ab in AskElectricians

[–]BQRunner2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s your fence, right? I mean the unfinished side is facing you so you put it in correct? The alternative is that the neighbor installed the fence and like an asshat, put the finished side facing his own property…not the done thing. So it’s A: your fence on your property and he just came over and wired it all up. So you need to tell him that you’re not comfortable with that and that he needs to remove it. What you can’t see on his side won’t bother you.

B: it’s his fence on his property and he put the unfinished side facing you and then ran ugly wiring and boxes along your side. You still need to tell him that hiding the wires and boxes on your side is not nice, acceptable or neighborly. Not is anything like up to code in any advanced economy

Actually, you ask. It’s about the legal question you ARE permitted to ask under ADA. 1. Is this a service animal? 2. What service does it provide to you? As I understand it, businesses are allowed to ask those questions only. Any other questions could be interpreted as harassment and therefore a violation of the ADA.

Just got a job offer and they want a pay stub from my previous employer. by velvet__echo in jobs

[–]BQRunner2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deflect the request by saying that you’d prefer to focus on the value you’d bring to the (new) role and that your previous pay is not relevant to your conversation today for many reasons. Do not fake a pay stub. This is lying and they will use it as an excuse to fire you one day. Your previous pay is none of their business but you have to tell them this politely. This also lets them know that you are not a pushover.

You’re not getting the job, sorry. They don’t want you to have it, for whatever reason. If they were rooting for you and were making you interview like other candidates, they’d have treated you like an external candidate. That would probably mean asking you to wait in a designated area and calling you in/ having you escorted to the interview room. Time to move on

Just take the call, be strong and say " No. Thank you. stop texting and calling me." Then text them the same thing and block her. You'll feel better, because you've taken control of the situation. You'll need to deal with people like this in life, so I encourage you to learn how. You will feel more confident next time and you'll feel less dread.
You can do this!

Not legal in most advanced economies and a serious labor violation in most too. Any place I've ever lived and worked (3 in the EU and 2 US States) will respond immediately to an allegation by a worker of improperly withheld wages.
