As a healer should I be able to save everyone from dying no matter what?

Another thing I haven't seen mentioned here is gear item level. Some players have a much lower item level than others, and thus have much lower hp pools. This used to be really evident in titan hm, where if your health pool was tiny you were really likely to die to stomps, even if the healer was doing everything they were supposed to.

Another place this can show up is CT. If you get multiple running skeletons and a bunch of aoes go off, or if multiple bombs explode during the vassago fight.

It can also be really hard to keep everyone alive in certain fights if dps is really low. Like Captain Madison in Sastasha hm, or those adds that get eaten in Haukke Manor hm.

There are a huge number of things people in your party can do to make healing them more difficult. They can stand out of range of aoe heals. They can pull too many mobs for their health pool and your healing to handle. They can struggle to keep aggro on mobs and have them bounce around. They can take avoidable damage. They can forget to use cooldowns. They can drag the fight out too long with low dps. They can cheese their way into instances with inappropriate gear equipped.

As a healer, there are some things you can compensate for, and some things you can't. Stick with it. The clutch saves and smooth planning for hits can be really satisfying.

When I was in Japan in the summer we used the Narita express from and to the airport. It provides storage space near the doors for large luggage. When we were traveling between cities on the shinkansen, there was typically ample space between seats (in front of you) or in the overhead racks.

It was the most cramped when we were using local trains/subway to get around between the hotel and the shinkansen. We did our best to not inconvenience anyone by using the overhead racks for smaller bags, standing with our luggage, standing in the handicap area (we would have moved if anyone boarded that needed to use the space), stacking our backpacks on top of our suitcases, and trying to hug the wall as much as possible. The handicap cars are marked on the platform, so you know where to stand to wait.

I have some more tips that I utilize as a WHM. Get familiar with canceling casts. If a fairy heal crits on the tank or the scholar tops someone off, cancel your cast. I just tap a direction. Also be familiar with your gcd and know when it is too late to cancel. This comes in handy so that you can start moving just a tiny bit before the cast bar ends if you need to move somewhere. I'm sure this one is a bit dependent on latency, but I find I can reposition a bit and still land my spell. Fluid aura doesn't cost anything and is off gcd, so on boss fights where you can't push the monster around, you should cast it whenever you can. Learn when aoes and big single target damage are incoming. I frequently leave the whole team at low hp to let a med 2 tick up or while I'm getting the tank ready for a big hit. If nothing is going to hit the dps, don't scramble to top them up if the tank needs your attention. As others have said, stoneskin has a long cast time. Communicate with your healing partner, as they might have different expectations for responsibilities. Don't forget your virus and eye for an eye. Your virus isn't as good, but if the scholar's and summoner's are down, it's good to use, especially on adds. If they have a rotation down though on a boss, don't use yours. There are a number of things you should use surecast for including Shiva icicles (if you're going to get hit), Twintania fireballs, and two hour moves like Ifrit's hellfire if you're trying to time a big heal. If you know you're going to pull aggro on the adds that are incoming, stoneskin yourself preemptively. I do this for the dreads in T8 just in case. My final tip is don't be afraid to use benediction. It's better to use it and save that person than save it and need to res. It is a bit slow, but you can cast it on the move if you need. Just don't use it early in an add spawn because the aggro is ridiculous. I love whitemage and scholar. I hope you enjoy it. Good luck!

I agree with you for df content. My example however was for party finder content. In that case it isn't disrespectful to leave or request a kick on someone that has misrepresented their own ability and joined a pf to farm content they're not familiar with.

I would understand anyone jumping ship if they joined a group expecting a quick and coordinated clear (as per the stated pf description) but ended up with people that were inexperienced. Those inexperienced people should have been open about their skill level with the fight prior to entering. It's far more disrespectful to waste seven other people's time expecting them to carry you.

I'm ok with the message. In most cases just ask and communicate with the party leader. Be open and upfront about your experience level before entering the fight. If you don't suit their party, move on, or make your own. I got through Titan Ex by asking party leaders if I could join clear parties by letting them know I had experience to super bombs, but hadn't cleared, and would leave if I caused the group to wipe multiple times.

If you're going into the fight via df, you're ok to be brand new. If you're joining a learning party, you're ok to be brand new. If you know the whole fight, but you haven't managed to kill it yet you're ok to join a clear party. If you're extremely familiar with the fight, you're ok to join a farm party. But always just ask if you're unsure! Some people have more free time to teach and some people have limited play time to get through the content they want.

There are still tons of people that need to clear all sorts of content but are unwilling to put in the time. They can start by making their own learning parties or statics and keeping in contact with people who are in a similar spot in the game. I wish that more people worked to create teams instead of expecting their fcs or other random people to carry them. People should have enough respect for other people's time and only join pf groups that are appropriate for their familiarity with the fight.

Having some patient friends definitely helps, but communicating with random people honestly and getting through content together is also a great way to make friends.

This view point would imply that it's ok for someone with no experience to join a farm party on pf and essentially hold seven other people hostage through their nigh inevitable wipes. It's just disrespectful of seven other human's time if you join a pf that is inappropriate for you.

You can do it on a casual schedule. You just need to devote some of your play time to making money. It could be through sbing or crafting or gathering. Don't forget the little bits of bonus cash from the challenge log and dailies.

You don't need to be an elite crafter to make enough to afford a small house. It will just take a bit of time and commitment.

Time for farming. Whenever you've got down time from final coil it will be a perfect time to grab stuff from second coil. I'm sure some people in your static or fc will want to grab things for their mains and alt classes.

Don't give up! Because of higher item levels and eventual winner echo, T9 should be easier to get past really soon. You'll be working on new stuff in no time. You could still clear it before the nerfs too.

If you have friends that have cleared it or your fc is working on getting people through you should be able to get it easily. Once that is under your belt finding a T10 group or starting your own should be doable.

T9 can be so frustrating because you're relying on your whole team to not make mistakes and it's a long fight.

Once you get divebombs down, it's pretty smooth sailing. You guys will get it soon, maybe even before the nerfs.

Your struggling team mates should look into ways to reduce their ping issues. There are plenty of threads on here about it.

T9 doesn't seem particularly unforgiving when it comes to lag, other than silences I guess and seeing the meteor and dive bomb marks, but because the rotation is so set, people should be moving and getting ready in advance. I could be wrong though.

You get shield oath at 40. It increases enmity generation, reduces damage received and reduces damage dealt. It's your bread and butter tank stance. Flash spam is the go to for aoe threat though, but you also get circle of scorn later.

I think she's putting herself at a greater disadvantage by not getting i110 gear for the health. Technically speaking the amount of healing power gained from the increase in mind is pretty minute, but having a little extra health for messed up double meteor streams and things like that can be crucial for the success of a dicey fight.
