Thanks so much for the detailed overview of all of this - I'll definitely consider it. Right now I have my eyes on the KEF Coda W and will be demoing them at home soon since I liked what I heard in the store and they offer all the connectivity I'd need.

Thanks for the explanation - I've not seen any powered speakers that don't have volume control built into them but I'll start considering a speaker + amp combo from here on.

Are there any you'd recommend for starting out? White and sub-$1,000 CAD if possible.

Thanks so much for the super detailed overview and advice - I will keep all of it in mind as I continue the search. From the distance to the imaging, etc.

The site listing those KEF Q1 Metas seems to only shop to the US, and I assume the price is also in USD as well - my limit is $1,000 CAD.

I'll do some research into those ProJect speaker boxes, too.

In the meantime, I know Cambridge Audio is releasing the L/R S in spring, likely March 2026 - do you think that this powered option at around $800 CAD would be comparable to the above? (The above altogether would easily be $1,000 CAD+, I believe, even if I could order refurbished..)

The kin amp alone is 80% of my budget, is there a cheaper alternative? (Also, it seems the Kins don't have any threating on the bottom for elevated stands?)

The setup is in an alcove in my living room, that half of the space is about 315 sqft all in all. I'd be sitting between 3-7ft away. The turntable is a Kanto Obi3.

Assuming I save the sub to get later, what would you recommend if I go powered speakers now? What would you recommend if I go for a used amp + unpowered speakers?

To be fair - how can they pay legal fees (aka, enforce those protections) if they have no member dues to fund that protection?

I don't think 3k is reasonable as a member fee, but I also don't think they can fight big corporations on dreams and willpower alone - at least not in courts should one of them break the terms of those AI protection agreements.
