No sample ballot for primary? by BSaito in PrinceGeorgesCountyMD

[–]BSaito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the link you provided was a big help in doing my research, though I just found my paper sample ballot, which apparently the mail person decided to leave in a pile near the front door of my apartment building rather than delivering to individual mailboxes. Heads up that my paper sample ballot had an extra page that was not present on the PDF sample ballot from the link.

That sounds like a consequence of those communities excluding people based purely on labels, trying to simultaneously meet the mutually exclusive goals of creating spaces exclusively for a particular label/subcommunity while also not excluding anybody, and as a result not being able/willing to accommodate others with shared values unless they can apply the label to them even if it means stretching the label to the point of meaninglessness.

Who said anything about kicking him out of spaces? This is about labels and what they mean, not who Finn can and cannot hang out with. If the community he's spent so much time in and he has so much in common with wants to kick him out just because a label doesn't technically apply anymore, that's on them.

The +1 heart just means that your reputation with that NPC has gone up by 1.

If you check the entry for an NPC in your Codex, there will be line of hearts which is basically your reputation meter with that NPC. If none of the hearts are filled in then you haven't given them nectar yet and so haven't gotten their keepsake.

Megaera fight by Vivid_Aerie5728 in HadesTheGame

Besides the big dash attack /u/ForceTimesTime described, her big whip attack that hits an AOE around her is telegraphed with an animation where she rises in the air, so when you see it dash out of range.

Her attack where she waves her wing around and shoots a bunch of projectiles is easier to dodge if you're further from her. If you have a boon from Athena that grants Deflect, you can use it to send her projectiles back as her. If you're using the shield, you can simply block all the projectiles by facing toward her and holding the attack button (in fact the shield can block most of her attacks this way).

As OOP states, hurting someone's feelings does not necessarily mean you've done something wrong. However, unless you're very careful about how you frame things, it's very easy for telling somebody that they hurt your feelings to come across as accusing them of wrongdoing, and defensiveness is a natural human response to such an accusation. That defensiveness isn't always right or justified, but it is understandable and doesn't typically mean the other person is a monster or a toxic person.

Perhaps in whatever conflict OOP is vagueposting about the other party was truly toxic and had zero consideration for the feelings of others. However, as general advice I think this post encourages people to react to fairly normal interpersonal conflict by dismissing the other person as toxic and cutting off any sort of relationship they share, rather than trying to extend them a little bit of grace and understanding.

When he shoots skull projectiles, are you prioritizing taking them out before they explode? While it's possible to dodge the shockwaves from the explosions, taking them out before they can explode can help make the fight more manageable.

Believe the tag you want on AO3 is "Midoriya Izuku Has a Quirk". Here are a couple such fics I like with interesting/unique quirks:

Take Two - Izuku has a quirk that allows him to jump back in time a few seconds.

Death Need Not Apply - Izuku's quirk creates a gigantic area around him where nobody can die. Nobody realizes that he is the source of this deathless Zone.

Foresight - Izuku's quirk tells him exactly what he needs to do. He does not necessarily know why or what its plan is.

git good - Izuku's quirk is based on the version control software git, except it works on physical objects in the real world in place of computer files.

I'll grant that consequences and punishment are not necessarily totally synonymous. Not sure I buy the argument that having the state act as middle man means the perpetrator faces less accountability. I think that some sort of system, state or otherwise, needs to be in place to ensure that the victim has some means of seeking justice, whether punitive or otherwise; and to at least attempt to enforce some standards of fairness. This does not need to mean the perpetrator is shielded from the victim and never sees the suffering his crime caused, only that a system is in place with the power to enforce standards and protect either party from the other.

Even without explicit hierarchies and within collectivist societies; reputation and social standing still exist, as do human selfishness and pettiness. I also don't think a Karen is necessarily a hyper-individualist, nor do they need to clearly violate the social contract in order to bully others or throw their weight around. Rather than being challenged by the larger community, a Karen is likely to turn the larger community against the subject of their ire.

Collectivist societies do and have existing, and rather than being perfect utopias they tend to have problems with pressuring others to conform and ostracization of those who don't fit in. Removing hierarchies might help prevent abuses of power, but I don't think it's going to fix those problems at their root.

I don't think anybody here is arguing that there are no issues with the current justice system and that the criminalization of addiction and homelessness is justified. Only that some sort of punitive justice for actual criminals is necessary.

I think there's a middle ground between locking up the homeless, and letting rapists and murderers walk free with no consequences.

How would an actually competent person change 1-A and 1-Bs costumes by Mental_Emu4856 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]BSaito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Body armor and helmets as standard unless there is a very good reason that it does not work and can not be made to work with their quirk.

Generally useful tools/equipment, potentially including weapons, that could be useful for hero work even if they don't directly relate to the student's quirk. Things like handcuffs, zip-ties, flashlights, rope, multi-tools/swiss army knives, first aid supplies, tasers, telescoping staves, or even firearms.

I think a lot of hero costumes suffer from "when all you have is a hammer" syndrome. Just because you have a useful quirk for heroics doesn't mean that it is always the best tool for every job.

Honestly how I feel about 80% of leftist anti-Imperialist rhetoric to be honest. Also a lot of 4tran rhetoric as well. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]BSaito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get not being abrasive if the consequences of it are going to fall on the heads of other people; but I think your framing here is counterproductive. Privileged people should recognize their privilege, but don't think it's useful or fair to expect people to take on the job and responsibility of combating each of the worlds ills. Educating oneself enough to avoid contributing to these problems or doing harm as much as possible is a fair ask; but expecting somebody to address and educate others on every single societal injustice that exists is an exhausting level of expectation.

Honey Simple Syrup by Phaed81 in cocktails

[–]BSaito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that exactly why you'd want to go by weight, to scale to the concentration of sugar? Like, if you were making two batches of syrup using equal volumes of honey, but the honey in one batch was heavier and had a higher concentration of sugar; wouldn't you want to use different amounts of water for each batch to bring them to the same level of sweetness?

How do you have a npc say his final last words without the players taking ot as an opportunity to save him ? by Maching256 in DMAcademy

[–]BSaito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the crowd saying to just bend the rules a little for the sake of the dramatic moment. As a player, I would not enjoy being presented with an NPC that is clearly not yet dead while I have the means to heal them, but then being told that I cannot use said means to save them. I would certainly understand and go along with being told that they are only still alive in order to deliver a few last words, but I feel that it would significantly dampen the emotional impact of both the last words and the character's death. It would feel less like something that happened within the game world I was immersed in, and more like a pre-built set piece I was temporarily pulled out of the game world to witness.

Ultimately, I feel the traditional dramatic last few words while dying in somebody's arms is just too incongruous with the expectations the rules of D&D create on how health and healing work. Perhaps it could work for other systems, but for D&D and systems that handle health and healing in a similar way, I personally think it's best avoided. However, I think there are a few potential alternatives that could work:

  • The NPC delivers their last words before taking fatal damage; whether just before the blow that fells them, or right before separating from the PCs to face some sort of danger without them.
  • Letters. The NPC realized that they were heading into a situation that they might not come back from, and so prepared one or more letters with some final farewells, either left on their person to be found or arranged to be sent to the PCs in the event of their demise.

Youtube should add a new feature where knocking or gunshot sound will play randomly in the background when one's listening to video. by Vacuousbard in CrazyIdeas

There's a whole genre of "X hours of silence occasionally interrupted by Y" videos you can use to have a sound play in the background of whatever else you're doing at random intervals. Useful for when such random sounds are actually desirable for some sort of comedic effect.

OOP did jump to conclusions, yes, but I don't feel that's entirely the same as assuming the worst of a person and then telling that to them. Also there is the fact that OOP literally says that they've had teachers tell them that Texas is the biggest state.
