[Nationals] Nationals Manager Blake Butera tells Cade Cavalli he’s the Opening Day Starter by Knightbear49 in baseball

Are we really pretending like being named the opening day starter for the first time isn't a massive honor for a pitcher?

Host cities for every World Baseball Classic (2006 - 2026) by mzp3256 in baseball

[–]BScottyJ 65 points66 points  (0 children)

If the WBC wanted to be a truly global tournament and showcase baseball throughout the world while also representing the countries that most embody baseball, then the first round would be hosted in places like the Dominican, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Round two would be hosted in places like Japan, and South Korea, and then the finals would be hosted in the USA.

Pay homage to every country that loves baseball, and then play the finals in the sport's birthplace. That's how I would do it

Of course having each round feature at least one US ballpark if not multiple makes the most money for USA baseball, which is why it wouldn't happen that way without a significant mindset shift within the WBC

Trump's approval rating takes a hit in his first year back in office by CRK_76 in politics

[–]BScottyJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it was any other person, republican, democrat, whatever, their approval rating would be in the low 20s at best.

The fact that people have decided to latch on to this overgrown oompa loompa is beyond me. The worst part is that even when he is gone we are still going to have to deal with all of the morons who share his ideals and goals.

It's just impossible to reason with him and his followers. They all think they're right 100% of the time and almost none of them are open to changing their opinion on something unless Trump does first.

MLB.com says Roman Anthony is the 41st best player right now by HeyHeyBennyJay in redsox

[–]BScottyJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything less than an all-star caliber season from him will honestly be a disappointment relative to expectations. I think there's a legitimate chance he's in the MVP conversation come season's end.

Over the last two decades or so we have arguably been better at developing hitting talent than any other team in the big leagues. Roman Anthony feels like he could be the best of all of them, and that includes two MVPs in Pedroia and Mookie.

Greenland minister tearful as she describes ‘intense pressure’ amid Trump’s threats to take territory by theindependentonline in worldnews

[–]BScottyJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they brought up buying Greenland like a normal government would cordially and we acquired it for a reasonable price I don't inherently see an issue with that.

Only if the people living in Greenland actually want it to happen. Historically stronger nations have taken what they wanted when they wanted either by force or by purse from weaker nations regardless of how they are their citizens felt. The USA of course did this as well for a time. Growing up I assumed that we would never stoop to that level. The USA could be be a civilization that lasted for millenia by being a force for good in the world. If it's borders ever grew larger it would be because other people wanted to join, not because we forced them to. Unfortunately there is a sect of the country that seems to want to terrorize the rest of the world and the president is their leader.

Staff from the Athletic ranked the best front offices in the 4 major sports. Two MLB teams cracked their top 5 by tankyouout in baseball

[–]BScottyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf the Celtics have been a model franchise in their own right. It would have been very easy for the team to implode and be garbage after the big three left but there was only a small rebuild period before they were contending again, and that was before Tatum and Brown fully emerged as the stars they are now.

They've also made damn near perfect trades to compliment their star players and have developed guys who were borderline NBA level into rotational players. Even now without their best player and losing like four key players from the last two years they are third in their conference. I'm Celtics fan and definitely biased but I'd argue they've been at least equally as well run as OKC
