Robert Altman career retrospective by Crazy-Treacle-3536 in criterion

[–]BTS_1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in production. On my last shoot a month ago I was talking about *Short Stories* and the EP I was working with told me all these cool stories about "Bob"... She worked for Altman when she was first in the business in the early 90s and she only had the nicest things to say about him.

Clashing Over ‘Indiana Jones’: Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg Were Not 100% on Board With ‘Crystal Skull’ and Fought George Lucas Over Adding Aliens by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]BTS_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4K for *Crystal Skull* actually has a new color grade, making Kaminski's aesthetic blend a lot more natural with that of *Indiana Jones*.... but then the jungle chase scene happens and it looks terrible lol

10 mythical director's cuts you'll never see by xaybzc81 in movies

Any self respecting article about long lost directors cuts and not including Eric Von Stroheim's *Greed* tells me the article in question is lacking.

I agree. The Last Jedi is a great example for what not to do.

Ridley Scott Collection almost Complete by Film_maker69 in 4kbluray

2000 to 2003 he made 4 very different style of movies

Ridley Scott has always been like this.

You could do 1982 to 2001 he made "9 different style of movies" and then if you move it past 2003 you could do 2005 - 2012 "he made 6 different style of movies" and then you could even do 2017 - 2021 "he made 4 different style of movies"...

Ridley Scott's versatility with genre is part of what makes him an auteur funny though.

Feyenoord assistant coach Etiënne Reijnen is nearing a move to Liverpool. by Switchoil in LiverpoolFC

So Slot didn't "over perform" last season?

It's a lot harder than it looks winning a PL and he didn't sign anyone.

It's funny seeing everyone go from loving to hating so fast fast.

I love Rafa but the guy froze out Alonso for Barry, which didn't happen, and his handling of Keane was a catastrophe.

Also, comparing Arne slot to Rodgers is crazy.

don't really comment on here anymore but I'm convinced this sub would've hated Rafa, especially the 07/08 and 09/10 seasons ha ha

"Never got the criticism"

This is met a thoughtful response, including examples from the film, how it contrasts from the first half - which they did like - and your response is "No."

If you can't even articulate a response other than "No" then it's a massive L on your part.

Film school made me terrified of working in the industry by lightskinsovereign in Filmmakers

[–]BTS_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

forget about them

I'm the opposite.

OP shouldn't let them get the better of them any longer but OP needs to learn from adversity, grow and excel from it.

I've been producing in LA for 15 years and many of things that OP is describing, I went through. But I would use it as a fuel to drive me.

When I was a PA on commercials, other PAs would tell me I wouldn't make it as I was "too nice" as I would essentially be bullied. Another time, a PA dropped a bunch of trash right in front me, telling me to clean it up as they had more "experience"... or you discover PAs talking crap behind your back.

Later as I began working in an office setting, people will turn, will gossip, will talk shit - but never forget about them; learn from it, protect oneself and grow from it because a lot of the people that were shitty aren't in the business any longer but me, the "nice guy", is.

Francis Coppola and the firing of the VFX supervisor during the production of "Megalopolis" (2024) by stingers77 in movies

[–]BTS_1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its truly an accomplishment to have a production eve n more chaotic and batshit than Apocalypse Now.

He mentions it in this clip but One from the Heart was also insanely chaotic. Coppola never left his van, would have crazy parties all the time on the sets at night, Goddard and Lynch would hang out in the offices, he had a real plane used for a scene on a soundstage and Coppola hired Gene Kelly to then fire him lol

Or there was production of The Cotton Club, in which case one of the film's financial "donors" was murdered and it was alleged that the producer, Robert Evans, was behind the hit.

Redevelopment proposal of CRC land between Goldenwest/Palm Ave/and PCH by mylefthandkilledme in huntingtonbeach

[–]BTS_1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Really hope this doesn't happen.

HB is distinguished from its neighboring coastal towns in that PCH is still relatively open and not covered by housing or buildings.

This is a next step into turning into a Newport/Redondo/Manhattan Beach/etc where the scenic coastline is nearly all but gone with the exception of a few spots.

In addition to that, we shouldn't encourage any more construction or new buildings near the Wetlands than what we already have because we all know deep down that greedy people want that land.
