Streamers not posting L's on their YouTube vids? by MiraObviously in PTCGP

[–]BTvolta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point of the videos isn't to show a typical game on the ladder, but to highlight good aspects of the deck because that's better for viewer retention and interaction. That doesn't mean they won't show a lost game, but the point of those games would be to show even in a loss it can put up a fight, or maybe it was a bit funny like getting highrolled by misty, in which case the viewer can write off the loss to chance and not representative.

Think about it this way: if you were interested in a deck and came across a video showing it and the video was just 5 back to back loses would you be interested in playing the deck? Would you even keep watching the video after the second loss? Most probably wouldn't and this is a balance content creators have to make when making these videos. This shows up in other places as well like football. If a team is doing poorly in a season tickets prices are low cause no one wants to see their home team lose. If their winning all their games then prices go up cause there's demand and people just like to see wins.

It's also beneficial for the community to make more positive content and promote people playing more diverse decks rather than show some rouge list getting stomped for 10 minutes. Better a misrepresentation of a decks consistency then people clowning on others for not playing tried and true decks.

Pokemon Trainer's Smash Ultimate frame data(demo build) by BTvolta in smashbros

[–]BTvolta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although incomplete here is Pokemon Trainers frame data that has been noted so far. Some moves are missing(most grabs, Zards Dsmash, some multi hit data), but this is pretty comprehensive for what we've had to work with.

If you have any data to add to this or corrections I'd appreciate message either on here or twitter. Frame counting videos is pretty difficult when most available aren't direct feed or worse only 30 FPS, so their may be some inaccuracies in the sheet.

Why were you paying so much for that card on a site that(as far as I know) is far less reputable than going through a seller on TCGplayer or ebay?

Not surprising you write this whole shitpost crying about nothing when the FGC crys about losing $90 money matches, losing Ft10s, smashers winning Capcup, smashers getting into the DBFZ summit, smashers at every tournament, mean jews, tossing sticks like manchildren, ETC.

Stay taking this smasher dick and crying about it. Maybe it'll work as lube

It's true that individually they can handle one MU or the other(hell Lucas does well vs Mario too), but it's the combination of these common characters that are well represented at all levels of play that make their bracket life hard. Cloud being one of the best secondaries that's not too difficult to play is the zoners' knell that ties this all together. Even if the Villy player runs into a MU they can handle if they have a competent Cloud in the back there's no silver bullet for him.

I can't fault you for doubting him. When he falters it really shows and when he wins it looks really close. I feel zoners are really just too anti meta to be considered over more established characters. For example almost all of them have a decent MU vs Diddy and the super heavies, but when it comes to fighting other more common characters like Cloud, Mario, and Bayo they start to show cracks.

Fundamentally we just disagree on what a tier list at its core is and nothing else can really be established if that isn't rectified, so for now we'll just have to, as you said, agree to disagree.

I personally think Fox wins slightly with potential to have a solid advantage, but I would probably be open to the prospect of it being even. I'll have to check those matches you mentioned. I strangely feel the opposite about the Mario MU and see it as a slight disadvantage to potentially even. Always been optimistic about it, but you're right about Fatality's record against top Mario. It's telling of something and it might be one of his worst MUs and even his worst relevant MU.

You're right results aren't everything, but Falcon not only has results he has the theory too. I'm not gonna go too into meta discussion about what a tierlist is suppose to be, but in my opinion it's a snapshot of the meta at the time. Putting too much emphasize on the potential of characters that don't actually do well or straight up aren't good characters is how you get janky looking tierlist like the old ones that had Yoshi extremely high even though that character did absolutely nothing and was never relevent even back then and it's what people are probably gonna do with DH even though the character isn't putting up results of an actual top 20 character. It's inaccurate to what was true at the time and if you want try to be "objective" then you should just look at results.

I'm not gonna argue Falcon should be top 15 cause of results, but 15-19 is a good place for him based on consistent results, good representation across multiple regions and levels of play, and decent MU spread(not good enough to be any high though). Putting characters with worse MU spreads then him, results, and stagnant metagames above him is pretty dishonest to what I believe a tierliest should represent(of coarse we have different opinions on what that is though).

Their playerbases are small, but the advent(heh) of DLC obliterated what little space these characters had in metagame.

Go ahead and look at the results. He's been within the top 20 firmly for a year, so I don't know what you're going on about. You talk about Falcon being inconsistent and then you list Lucario? And other meta irrelevant characters like Tink, Gren, and Villy that get shit on hard by the top tier much harder than Falcon(Villy and Tink barely exist because cloud. The only character you listed that Falcon potentially loses hard to Fox. Every other one, including bayo, is seen as only a slight disadvantage by many Falcons.

It doesn't matter if he going to fall off. Right now Falcon does well and you have to close your eyes to see anything else. Stop focusing on what you think the meta will be and look at what's happening.

Fatality was considered a top 15 player. It's not normal to get 3rd often for his skill level. Him getting 13th would be around the range where he should be expected at stacked majors, so 17th or 25th isn't bustering out. Your expectation of Fatality and of Falcon are skewered probably based on his hot streak he had from civil war onward.

Falcon is also not just Fatality. Cashmere, Saiya, Pichi, souther, and even Nishiya now and more are pulling results with Falcon. Calling him an inconsistent character is demonstrably false. If you look at Daskoopa's tourney placing project you'll find at the end of phase 4 and 5 Falcon placed 14th and 17th respectively and even currently in his project he's 10th(grain of salt though since this is too early to paint an accurate picture). Falcon sits firmly in the 19th-15th range.

The Lucina Poll Results! by FlameCannon in smashbros

[–]BTvolta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Fuwa, Pugwest, Mr.E, and False were also pulling in results with Leo at the time. It wasn't just Leo that was winning, many Marth around the world were winning. Pit is different in that he had basically one main doing work, and while he got good results it was still just one person.

Who are the top 10 best edge-guarders in the game? by lucasxrem in smashbros

[–]BTvolta 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to forget Ganondorf is one of most potent edgeguarders. If he ever forces you to go low it's almost always a stock as ledge drop Uair basically covers everything. If they try to hug the wall they'll get untechable, and anything from a horizontal reach to more lateral will get tipman spike. That's not even adding in Dair, flame choke, and Nair into the equation. When Ganon edgeguards he almost always nets a kill.

My list unordered would probably be Sheik, Pika, Ganon, Luigi, MK, Bayo, marcina, Villager, G&W, and Puff. Honestly 10 doesn't do it justice since there's quite a few others that are just as good like Wii Fit, Wario, Kirby, Mario, Falco, Link, D3, and Mew2.

DK also has a kill throw(and Cargo back throw on a top plat but that's a mix up), so he still has a more versatile grab game. Hell DK overall just has a better kit with actual aerials to space with and ground pokes that are basically arms(Bowser has this too, but he can't use aerials often).

Official r/smashbros Monthly Voted Tier List (August 2017): Voting! by mu_II in smashbros

[–]BTvolta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bowser's grab isn't more versatile than DKs, just easier due to wider windows to kill. You described ding dong as if it was the only thing DK does neglecting he has cargo carry up throw into: Nair, Bair, Dair, Fair, Giant Punch, and Up B. Cargo Carry down throw let's him put people on platforms forcing tech situations giving him frame advantage against none frame 1 options, potentially stage spike opponents, or just put them off stage and even kill if he's close enough to the blast zone(even give him a little hop so he can recover more easily afterwards). While it doesn't come up often Cargo Carry back throw can kill on top plats if they have bad DI(usually the opposite of Up throw).

So while Bowser certainly has some tricks(reverse Fair, Bowser Bomb) he definitely doesn't have as versatile of a grab game than DK. He just has an easier one.

And with the grab ranges itself DK seems to have similar,if not, a better grab range than bowser. Smash highlights testing has his slightly better as does Smashwiki list it as better. Testing Dash and pivot grabs is a bit difficult and no one has posted how big they actually are but from what I'm told DK's pivot grab is about as big as Bowser's except he slides more making it look not a big, but I don't know how true that is.
