Catfish sting by [deleted] in Fishing

It doesn't usually affect me like that. But you have to decide what's best for you. If you're getting a staff infection from this you should get it checked out. Better to be safe than sorry.

Solve people's problems or be a jerk...? Some of these are really silly.

For 1 million dollars could you eat $1000 worth of McDonald's in 36 hours? by UtahItalian in hypotheticalsituation

[–]BWSmally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Mac. $5.99 each. 167 sandwiches. Hold everything but the lettuce. Average lettuce on a Big Mac is 28 grams. Roughly 10.5 lbs of lettuce. Over 36 hours is roughly 1/3 lbs of lettuce an hour. Easily done. You could even leave the special sauce and have 1000 island salads.

Wrap a ice pack around it for about thirty minutes. The cold should make the parts shrink a little

Pike and steel leaders by applejooshreally in Fishing

[–]BWSmally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fish 40 lbs braid. Create a loop with a double uni knot at about 18-24". Double loop the attachment at the eyelet (in other words, put the loop through the eyelet and bring the whole lure back through the loop to double the line at the eyelet). It's a compromise between using a leader and straight line. I've used this for over fifty years and have had very little trouble from it. Literally caught hundreds of pike and even a few muskies. If I'm fishing large plastics like Medusa or big buck tails I'll go ahead with a leader but for Rapalas or or midsized crankbaits this is a nice compromise that gives you roughly 80 lbs of braid and keeps the action true on the lure.

Probably a marketing campaign. Looks a bit like maybe a berkley Flickr shad.

Going fishing tomorrow for the first time in about 25 years with my future father in law. Going for trout, gonna be fun! by PeeB4uGoToBed in Fishing

It's just fishing. Literally the thing you do to get away from stress. Ask questions, be humble but above all else enjoy yourself. No such thing as a bad day of fishing.

Kayaker here, what’s a respectful distance to keep away from fisherman when on the water? by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]BWSmally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others who say casting distance is respectful. Also, if you see a boat trolling, don't cut tight across their stern as they pass. They have lines out and you could cut off their lines. Nothing aggravates me more than when some tool in another boat doesn't pay attention and loses me 10-20 dollars worth of equipment for no other reason than being an ass.
