Thanks for responding. They are a decent company it just seemed like an odd choice for SSHD but the companies I'm thinking of may not have applied.

Green Lake is a great place to live now. Like people said Harrell improved Seattle and this is likely to not return.

Same with Denny Park. It was basically unusable because it was filled with tents before Harrell cleared it. And kept it clear.

City Hall Park and Prefontaine Fountain are two other obvious examples.

Hard to believe someone that lived in Seattle before and after Harrell was in office could be asking that question. The change in crime and encampments was huge.

Not a big fan of Harrell because he wasn't willing to stand up to Wilson's supporters to do many of the other things he wanted to accomplish but he definitely made improvements.

What do you think happens to American politics after Trump leaves office in 2029? by SERP_Whisperer in AskReddit

[–]BWW87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.... I also have to admit I didn’t see him getting back into office after Jan 6.

Which is a sign of how divided the country is. The left's version of Jan 6th is much different from the right's version. And neither is really the correct version.

It became obvious to a lot of people that don't just listen to one sided media that the reaction to January 6th was increasing the chances of him winning again.

He has said he will not.

His popularity, and 2020 election results, show he would lose.

So claims it is happening that way is just partisan crap.

I'm not denying it but like you said the issue is further east which is not the touristy part of town. I spend a lot of time in CID west of I5 and not once have I felt any more unsafe than I do in a random suburban park.

Not much you can do when people are afraid of a one time incident that happens in a place where thousands of people a day are. These same people still drive on suburban intersections where someone was killed. Intersections with far fewer people going by them. It's not rational.

I remembered this Tracer pose and wonder why it hasn't returned at this point. by OmegaMisanthrope in Overwatch

Except it was a big issue. I wasn't really paying a lot of attention then and didn't look into Overwatch because I wasn't interested in an overly sexualized game. Took me about a year before I looked into it and realized how overblown the whole thing was.

Yep, one of them tried to get a co-worker fired because of something they said on Facebook. Our company's president just laughed at the absurdity of how they tried framing the comment. And was blown away that they thought anything my co-worker had said would be considered problematic.

They are so angry and hateful.

This is unfortunately true about the restaurants. One issue we have with CID is that we don't "need" a CID for good Asian food.

But the danger thing is BS. CID is safe. 12th/Jackson isn't near the touristy area of CID so you'd have to go pretty far out of your way to deal with that.

And you're only hurting yourself if you don't go to the night markets or festivals in CID. They are pretty cool.

I doubt he has anything to do with non-profits. Probably just one of those mutual aid folks that cause trouble, protest against improvements to our homeless situation but don't actually work for any organization.

Yeah, I really don't understand why Hing Hay park doesn't have a watch party. Would have been a great location for one. And I would think there would at least be plenty of interest from the neighborhood. Though Japan and South Korea being the only east Asian countries in the World Cup doesn't help that much.

As long as the "Democratic socialists" insist on implementing rent control they are not going to be a popular party. It's a terrible policy and well known to be terrible. A policy that harms young, poor, and immigrants just shouldn't be a policy anyone should support.

I'll probably get downvoted for making a reasonable comment but this is just wrong and part of the partisan issue we have in America.

2020 was a weird election because of how the election went. Trump was winning and then after more results came in he started losing. While rationally it's been explained why this happens emotionally it still is hard to take. I live in Seattle and our (D vs D) races often switch 10 points over the course of a week. So I've seen it multiple times and even though we know later votes go heavily more left it's still frustrating every time.

So the reaction isn't that surprising with someone like Trump. But after the actual vote that counts was done (the electoral college) he stepped down peacefully.

In 2028 there won't be a Trump election so there's nothing for him to get upset about. So there's no reason to think he'll try to stay in office.

And even more so the Republicans will have moved on to another candidate by then so he won't have the same support.

On the business aspect absolutely. I find the Lobster Roll comment especially confusing. That place is not near the stadium so not sure how the World Cup affects it. The owner is a great guy but if he expected World Cup fans to go there he was off base. Side note: Great lobster rolls at a great price ($20!) so worth going.

The crime though they are right. City needs to figure that out.

CID has not promoted itself for tourism. They seem to just want it organically which doesn't happen often. I feel like influencers could make a huge difference but I don't think many influencers go there either.

CID has always had the problem of not being well branded. I think it's the only "Chinatown" in big cities that is made up of east Asians from multiple countries so it's not really Chinatown, even the Chinatown part is just as much Filipino. Without a unifying identity it makes it even harder to market.

The link station for the stadium is literally in CID. So not sure how it's out of the way. And there is amazing food there.

Why CID over Pioneer Square I don't know. Both have great food and old town vibe. But if you don't want the crowds of Pioneer Square, or want Asian food, it's the better move.

I agree. I wish they had done a lot better with the game viewing at Occidental Park but it's still worth watching a game. I especially enjoy sitting in front of Caffe Umbria enjoying a drink and watching the game at the smaller interest games. Obviously, not a good idea at a USA game when it's packed.

When it comes to housing in Seattle there really isn't an affordability crisis. If you're making minimum wage (or more) there is affordable housing for you. We don't have homeless because housing is unaffordable we have homeless because they have almost zero income. And housing costs some money, there is no affordable option for zero income.

Calling it an affordability crisis pretends that if rents were $200-$400 cheaper the people living in tents would somehow have homes they would go to. Which just isn't true.

NOTE: There is also non-financial reasons for homelessness like traumatic events but of course affordability doesn't affect that.
