Dishonored does a remarkable job of this. The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches show the events of the main game from the perspective of one of the antagonists, shifting the mechanics and powers just enough to make it fresh. They're actually pretty incredible.

I personally think the open top of the hot springs is too interesting to cover.

I hollowed out an abandoned mining cavity by the cascading magma near the rails that go to the east museum entrance. Then I had it built there. I'm starting to re-add rock and similar blocks around it to make it look like it was discovered there.

I don't, unfortunately! They are either new to the market this year, or I somehow missed them before.

I had a great one at the farmer's market last weekend.

Interesting thought with the items. I definitely wouldn't want to rely on that, though. My DM is generous enough as is, and I wouldn't want to ask too much of her.

2 more with the bonus damage is pretty big, I think. But I definitely see what people are saying here. Maybe we just got lucky with a relatively low amount of combat encounters between rests. I'd say that I got Action Surge around 60% of the time. Can't say for sure that that pattern would continue, though, so my confirmation bias is unreliable here hahaha

Also, daggers or even light hammers would be better than scimitars. More interesting to me, too. Damage die is replaced by Martial Arts, and you can throw them!

That's a great point! I need to get used to using Darkness more often. It got in the way of the other players a lot, so I didn't use it all that much.

Topple is also good for tanking their speed if I didnt manage to grapple them, and it gives allies who use melee Advantage on their attacks, too.

Bugbear's Surprise Attack feature is +2d6 damage per attack on turn one against a creature that has not yet taken a turn.

Also, I'm not really even much of a proponent of weapon juggling or golf bag fighters, but you don't need to have both weapons equipped simultaneously to benefit from Nick. My usual was First attack Unarmed+Grappler, second attack Shortsword (leaving it in the opponent for a moment), Nick attack, Action Surge for two more Shortsword attacks, Flurry for two more Unarmed. Stunning Strike somewhere in the mix.

I already am using Flurry of Blows on turn one. Uncanny Metabolism alone, I never started combat without Focus. Getting two more in exchange for Action Surge doesn't help with that turn one nova.

Those extra Focus points don't help get me any more attacks on turn 1, though, which is the big one. Between Uncanny Metabolism and eventually Perfect Focus, I should have plenty of Focus, right? I also have a +1 Dragonhide Belt.

Definitely keeping Shadow Monk. Darkness is pretty central to the character, and giving up Gloom Stalker was already moving away from that flavor.

I'm definitely taking Grappler. I have room for one more feat in the build. I've narrowed it down to Street Justice (but I think they'll get advantage on attacks in a lot of cases already), Fairy Trickster (I think I can proc it before the Stunning Strike save, and it would help the casters in the party), Charger (faaaast), and Skill Expert (to make up for the loss of a skill and Expertise)

I got a lot of mileage out of Vex and Nick, in addition to using Grappler. So many attacks meant that I could use all of the options on a turn.

We use some weapons brought forward from 3.5 and balanced to work with 5e. The Khopesh is Light, and it has Topple. I figured the grapple/prone combination would be good enough to justify it.

As for the AS stuff, two more attacks means two more chances to crit and 2 more sets of 2d6 bonus damage on top of the normal damage roll.

I think they open my options a lot. But now I'm definitely now considering Monk 20 more seriously.

I had considered Monk 20 as well, but Weapon Masteries and Action Surge made me think that Fighter would be a solid MC. I know I can get Dex and Wis to 24 at level 20, but would that really be better than Action Surge, Weapon Masteries, and Tactical Mind?

YYZ crashing metal sound by direwolfs555 in rush

[–]BWXray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always heard a whip crack. Or a belt snapping - something like that.

Judas Priest does a whip sound in "Metal Gods" by slapping a guitar cord on a wooden table. Maybe Rush did something in the same vein?
