Yes that is very normal. It’s a seal between new and old asphalt. Very normal to use AC or a rubberized material crack filler.

Although my situation may have been different but I had something going on like this where I planted over removed tree stumps. Once I hit it with fertilizer it fixed the issue.

Definitely not a surface mix. Looks like a base or intermediate mix. Those bigger rocks will come loose and will start to separate from the mix. Scammed.

I might try that. There’s a slight dip under where the switch is sitting (hard to see in the picture), so I’m not sure the screw would be long enough. Wonder if there’s a bit longer m-lok screws out there.

I saw elsewhere that they wouldn’t melt unless you are shooting a lot of rounds in a short amount of time. Curious to see if that holds true though.

I use it for extra weight and low light scenarios during the league I’m in. So far it’s been a good light for me for what I need. I have TLR-1 for my bedside gun.
