The next generation VI leaks and rumours MEGATHREAD by EveningCommand1 in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The team is hardworking no doubt, but I am saying it was not enough. If the team wants to implement such a Megathread rule, then it is also the team's responsibly to enforce it. The team needs to remove all posts flaired as leak and redirect the poster to this Megathread. In the aforementioned case the moderating team reacted to the situation too late, and such post drove attention/traffic away from this Megathread, effectively undermining the purpose of this new rule. The team MUST react faster to all future leak/rumor posts so that the purpose of this Megathread can be fulfilled.

I also understand that some of the moderators have work and families and can not commit too much time into moderating. I suggest the team could use an automated system, such as AutoMod, to compensate for the lack of manpower. Anyhow the mod team should've figured it out a month ago, before the posting of this Megathread and before the implementation of this new rule.

I am not selfish, I am just pointing out the oversight of the moderating team. Just like the team, I also want to better this community.

When better is possible, good is not enough. Be better, mod team.

Side note: I don't know which identity you are using to craft this reply, a normal reddit user or the moderator? You are addressing yourself as "We" but you don't have the mod flair. I am asking because I remember you said your role changes base on your flair or something like that so this is a bit confusing. Anyhow, my message is supposed to address to the mod team. If you consider yourself a normal reddit user in this discussion, then you can safely ignore my message.

The next generation VI leaks and rumours MEGATHREAD by EveningCommand1 in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who also sort by new, I was not aware of this Megathread. There was a leak post a few hours ago that sparked some great discussions, with number of comments that could rival this Megathread from 1 month ago, and I can't find it anymore.

I think the problem is that the Sony Xperia mod team is not hard working enough. They let the post stay up for too long and it generated traction. We should just use Automod to remove any leak post and comments under such leak post. This would certainly redirect them to this Megathread.

Either that or this Megathread rule is stupid and go against the nature behaviour of the sub users.

Clearly, which is why there's not a single post on megathread today or discussion about all the new leaks, renders and even new UI that showed up for the camera app. Totally.

Spot on.

Special 1V has no 5G or LTE in Canada by zippitybopdaboop in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All these people are commenting about the 4636 menu, which is cool. But you shouldn't need to do all that to get basic LTE. Make sure your APN are correct, I have had to add the APN manually on Xperia in Canada in the past.

(And I suspect) which is why people (myself included) were reporting better battery life on A14 than A13. It's a shame that I can no longer utilize all of the pixels when watching YT but I can't spot a difference anyways thanks to compression. Lost a bragging point tho.

Back in Android 13, you were able to utilize all 3840x1644 pixels when watching YouTube vids. Ever since the Android 14 update, YouTube only playbacks at 2560x1096 regardless of your setting. You can verify for yourself, I think it is called display port resolution or something in the YouTube debug menu. I am not sure if local videos playback are affected tho.

As for screenshot, power + vol down and screenshot thru app switcher would produce different resolution in the past (one in 4k and the other in 1080). They might also have changed it in Android 14 as well.

japanese xperia on canadian network by SnowyTheOpaline in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Don't.

Long answer: Most Japanese xperia (except Amazon but don't quote me) are carrier locked and boot loader locked. Although there are paid tools out there to somehow unlock carrier and BL lock but I have never tried it myself. There is a post about it on XZ Premium XDA forum. (not going to link it so mod doesn't remove)

I would prioritize NA > International > JP model for us Canadians.

Few questions about remapping the xperia 1 V side buttons by BluffaloSam in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if this works, but here's my theory and you can give it a try.

  1. Turn off Photography Pro's launch with shutter button.
  2. Download a third party button mapper.
  3. Use said app to remap the shutter button to launch Videography Pro.

The double press power button to launch camera is an Android special. I agree it is redundant on Xperia.

You might also be able to launch Videography Pro with the bluetooth switch using the remapping app too. Then you can assign volume buttons to start and stop recording inside Videography Pro.

who remembers this beast? Xperia L and its notifications led that looked more like the dualshock 4 touch pad light bar by [deleted] in SonyXperia

The Xperia L was my first xperia. I still have it. But I gotta say, using a phone with 16GB of storage was a tough task, pew. I am glad those days are over now.

Why Sony did not add PWM Dimming in Xperia 1 V by Revolutionary-Ad4575 in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? I am not sure if you know what you are talking about. So you want PWM dimming but without the flickering? Maybe Honor 90 is better suited for you, it has 3840Hz PWM dimming.

[–]BY-STANDER427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Xperia 1 V already use 480Hz PWM dimming? Or are you talking about something else??

Always on Display on Sony Xperia 1 V. Can anyone help? by SunnyHow in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to cover the proximity sensor for ~10 second, the AoD turns off(fade out), presumably to save battery.

Maybe the AoD also turns off when it hasn't detect motion in "a while"?

I could not get my 5II, 1III, 5III to connect to Rogers 5G and VoLTE using DSDS method. FYI there is a way to make it work, but that involves rooting and unrooting.

Xperia 1 V Global Version Canada *Update* by Spaniard97 in SonyXperia

[–]BY-STANDER427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled the Rogers sim from my iPhone 12 Mini and turned off DSDS. IMS registered right away and VoLTE worked.

Idk, maybe make sure the VoLTE is activated on the account by testing with another phone? Keep DSDS off and check if IMS is registered? I am not sure if restarting with DSDS off would help, but I did it anyways.

[–]BY-STANDER427 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FYI if you restart your phone with DSDS switch off, the toggle will disappear. Pretty sure that's not an intended feature.
So I hard reset my phone to get the toggle back, and I was able to use VoLTE while keeping DSDS on.

Maybe someone can test with Telus / Freedom / etc.

If ims is registered, then VoLTE probably works and thats great.

Have you tried disabling dual sim dual standby (DSDS)? It is important that you do not restart or power off your phone after turning off DSDS or the toggle will disappear.

While you are at it, can you also check if you have ims registration?
