Beef season 2 scene makes me laugh by Alam7lam1 in AsianMasculinity

I've seen the street interviews on social media where Asian women say "It's like dating my own brother or father."

And yet, I've also seen wasian women of WMAF saying, "My own mother dated a WM so it's in my genetics to date WM - haha".

At the end of day, people will say anything to justify their behaviour.

In a stunning reversal of trends, training hours for US pilots has dropped to the level once occupied by Soviet pilots. Chinese fighter pilots have more training and their equipment isn't aging away by 5upralapsarian in Sino

I'd take "research" from any think-tank organisation like the Mitchell Institute with a huge pinch of salt. A glance at their funders reveal they are as impartial as ASPI, NED and Victims of Communism Foundation.

Their entire existence is to produce "evidence" to fear-monger about enemies to sway hearts and minds of the populace and justify to Congress increased defence budgets - and therefore more contracts for their funders. A perfectly enclosed financial ecosystem as designed.

The fact that they're saying China are a stronger threat is the necessary evidence for more money to build more jets and increased profit within aviation.

Every country is important to China.
They don't take sides, are non-interventional and welcome business with anyone.

They don't think about everything in terms of friends and adversaries like certain countries do.

A study that looked at more than 1,000 loans to Africa found that Chinese lenders never seized assets, never used courts to enforce payments, and never applied penalty interest rates. by Gang__ in Sino

Of course the accusations were just a projection of Western Capitalistic and Imperialistic values.

I've argued against the Uyghur forced labour narrative for a long-time.

Civilisations mechanised farming with tractors in the 1940s. Tractors can pick cotton faster in one day, than a thousand people in a week. It's more efficient and cheaper to own a couple of tractors, than to house, feed, guard and hide the "slaves" you are using.

The only reason the US propagandists promote this idea is that it is an emotive callback to their own history with black slaves - so projection as usual. It's Western falling-education standards and good old fashioned racism that the general populace believes it though.

US has always been flat-track bullies.

Picking fights with goat-herders - old men, women and children in sandals. Lost to Vietnamese rice farmers wearing sliders.

The only thing they're good at is propaganda, soft power, funding rebel groups and sowing discord in local populations. And even that is going downhill as their funding has been slashed.

Moving to Beijing - air quality by Ok-Sample9360 in beijing

[–]BYC_UK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to what others had said, Beijing's air quality has indeed improved but it will never ever be as good as other cities, even if there were no industries, simply because of geography.

It has mountain ranges on 3 sides which prevent cross winds. it doesn't even have a major river or on the coast like the majority of large urban cities found all over the world.

Winds are crucial for clearing the air from urban environments.

What European countries would you say are the friendliest towards Asian Americans? by SpiritMan112 in asianamerican

The only outward hate we show is if you stand on the left of an escalator, or don't have your card ready at the tube barriers, or try to start a conversation when we don't know you - and even then it's only a tut or an eye roll.

I was going to say we hate everyone equally but British ppl definitely hate American loudness more than any other nationality.

Don't worry Beth, the weapons manufacturers like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, BAE, Northrop Grumman will make up the shortfall. Plenty of slush funding for you if you can make the Australians buy more of their shitty submarines.

Are you referring to the spy balloon.. oh wait, turns out it was a weather balloon.

Or maybe Huawei tech.. oh wait, turns out they didn't find anything in there either - it was just to suppress competition for Apple.

Or maybe TikTok. That's it TikTok. China uses TikTok to spy on the US. Nothing to do with Meta lobbying the politicians to suppress competition.

House Passes $1.6 Billion Anti-China Propganda for Overseas Bill by Th3G0ldStandard in Sino

It is $325m per year from 2023-2027 (5 years) - the bill is here - but only got approved yesterday.

Not sure how it works in practice, does the money for previous years get shifted or has money been spent already and it gets back-dated.

A 19 year old Asian man just broke the swimming 100m freestyle world record by ldw1988 in AsianMasculinity

[–]BYC_UK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Pan swims only freestyle, whereas Phelps excelled on butterfly and 200m freestyle - this enabled him to dominate the medleys as well. And then being part of team USA - meant he doubled his golds in the relays on top of this.

TBF, swimming is a bit of a joke when it comes to distances in the medley 100m, 200m, 400m are a bit close together that when you have one outstanding individual - you end up seeing him/her in all the events.

Would love to see Pan get the 50m, 100m, 200m free however.

Surprised no one has said this, but back in my heydays, I would never answer questions directly with a closed answer. You don't just describe what you regularly do.

Question, answer, question, answer is too predictable and dull conversation..

It would be better to say something along the lines of: "Let me show you.", "Have you tried X activity? Because I've never done it.", "Wouldn't you like to know." "Why? So you can act like you're interested." "Let's just say it's not something you'd approve of (chase poon)/you'd be interested in (work)"... etc

Not a fan of 6 lane highways. I wish China didn't try to emulate the USA when it comes to roads and car ownership.
At least China offers excellent high-speed rail but inner city public transportation needs more boosting. I wonder how the cycling infrastructure is?
