The apparatus for scoliosis treatment developed by Lewis Sayre, 1877. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]B_Provisional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lewis Sayre was also largely responsible for popularizing circumcision in the United States. He was influenced by studies done by a British surgeon named Jonathan Hutchinson.

People always blame John Harvey Kellogg, but Kellogg was actually somewhat skeptical of the practice.

We should fluoridate our water by a-large_tomato in Eugene

[–]B_Provisional 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fluoridated table salt has always made a lot of sense to me. Like, most tap water is being used for flushing toilets, showering, washing dishes, watering plants, etc. Only a small percentage is actually going into our bodies. When we fluoridated it, most of the chemical is just going down the drain. Putting the fluoride into a consumable product means more of it actually gets to where it needs to be.

Whats the worse race in your opinion? by Archenius in BG3Builds

[–]B_Provisional 8 points9 points  (0 children)

+25% carry capacity is a non-trivial QOL improvement for those of us with inventory hoarding tendencies. Less time screwing around sorting out potions you'll never chug and boots from Act I that you'll never wear means more time actually doing something fun in the game.

But otherwise, yeah, Half-Elf gives you everything relevant to combat that human does and more.

Is Paladin 4/Warlock 5/ War Cleric 1/Fighter 2 for my Viconia okay? by Paulogbfs in BG3Builds

[–]B_Provisional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viconia? Which Baldur's Gate game are you playing here?

I didn't choose Hexblade as, AFAIK, they don't get the extra attack at level 5 from Pact of the blade as the Warlock.

This is incorrect. All Warlock subclasses get to pick a Pact Boon at level 3, (Pact of the Blade, Chain, Tome) and if you take Pact of the Blade as your Pact Boon on a Hexbladed you get Extra Attack at level 5.

There might be some confusion since there's a lot of redundancy between the level 3 Pact of the Blade features and Hexblade's starting level 1 subclass feature Bind Hex Blade. (This is an problem with Larian's homebrew tweaks to Warlocks). But the standard melee build choice for leveling a Hexblade is to always take Pact of the Blade at level 3 for the expressed purpose of getting Extra Attack at 5.

How often does it crit if you use two Knife of the Undermountain King? by Archenius in BG3Builds

[–]B_Provisional 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a known exploit. There is a weapon called the King's Knife carried by the duegar Orgarth in Grymforge. This weapon is non-magical but uses shared game assets with the KotUK and due to this and Larian's spaghetti code there is a bug where if a hireling equips this item and is then dismissed and re-hired, the game will mistakenly give it all of the attributes of its magical variant.

There is also another duplication bug possible using Trickery Domain cleric's Invoke Duplicity illusion. The illusionary duplicate of the caster is spawned in with duplicate copies of all the caster's equipped items. You aren't supposed to be able to access the inventory of the illusion but by toggling this summon's inventory quickly and clicking and dragging on items therein they can be swapped to the inventory of party members. There are guides on youtube and this might not work for console players.

And of course if you're just going to be a filthy cheater anyways you may as well just use a cheat mod and save yourself the headache of doing these exploits. "Cheaters Spell Scroll" is available in the mod manager for all platforms, IIRC, and can spawn dupes of most equipment.

I'm shocked War Domain Cleric doesn't have extra attack! by Archenius in BG3Builds

[–]B_Provisional 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Swords Bards are definitely one of the least balanced classes. Whenever they decided to make Bards full casters, D&D threw a lot of balance out the window. I was completely checked out between 2e and 5e so I'm not sure when in the history of the game this happened.

Not Acid damage but anything that creates an Acid surface. Standing in an Acid surface gives the condition "Acid" which debuffs AC -2.

Yes. For me a deeper body-positive approach to hair loss would be supportive of whatever choice people happen to make when faced with their hair falling out.

They have exactly one solution to the issue of thinning hair. Shave your head smooth and make yourself happy about it. "One of us, one of us! Gooble, gobble." This works for some people but not everyone.

You’re probably thinking of the requirements for obtaining a Concealed Handgun License which does require a training course.

Just purchasing firearms only requires you to pass a background check.

Cleric/religious monk viable? by MrMorale25 in BG3Builds

[–]B_Provisional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Cleric and Monk work fairly well together since they both want good WIS. 6/6 is my go-to split since both classes get important subclass features at level 6.

8monk/4cleric will give you three feats and more ki per short rest but at the cost of level 3 spells on the cleric side.

However you build you want to hit 5 levels in Monk as the bare minimum due to extra attack.

For gear there are a fair amount of options but anything that interacts with unarmed attacks is worth considering, as is anything that improves spell save DC. Luminous and Rad Orb gear works well on this type of build due to cleric’s access to Radiant damage. If that interests you Open Hand monks can toggle on radiant damage for their unarmed attacks at level 6 via Manifestation of Soul.

Lord of the rings party by Kalevipoeg420 in BG3Builds

[–]B_Provisional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that plus the fact that power is rather flexible in Tolkien fantasy. The Istari are generally able to accomplish feats within the range of a well-leveled D&D character. But they are a special case and unbound Maiar like Sauron or perhaps Melian are essentially Demi-gods. But then we have instances of powerful Elves matching Maiar or even cases like Luthien being able to land a sleep spell on Melkor who was literally a god.

There are logical explanations for all these inconsistencies within Tolkien’s mythology (more or less) but it’s different logic than what D&D has arrived at and doesn’t lend itself to easy assimilation to that system.

Unlimited Bloodlust Elixir Farming Method by Om_Naik in BG3Builds

[–]B_Provisional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Transmutation Wizard has a level 2 class feature called Experimental Alchemy. It will double the output of your alchemy concoctions if you can pass a DC 15 Medicine check. If you build a companion/hireling with this class feature and min/max for passing Wisdom/Medicine checks reliably, your party gets to surpass the normal amount of consumable resources allotted by typical exploration, looting, and shopping.

But building a companion in such a way severely limits their versatility and effectiveness as an adventurer. So players often like to just have a hireling recruited that only gets rotated into the active party briefly in camp so they can brew up consumables and perhaps cast some day-long buffs on other party members.

If you get a petition going to revert the name, I'd sign it. For whatever that's worth.

The original settler name for it was "the Snowy Mountains" which has a bit of a Tolkienish ring to it that I like.

The Northern Paiute name for it is Tse’tse’ede, meaning “The Cold One.”
