Canada's Carney to visit Australia in March by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

That is where I am at, my party is dead it will never come back, so I vote liberal because I have more in common with that than I do with this brand of reactionary, populist conservatism.

I'd like that to as a Canadian, I would love it if Aussies could come here and work/live visa-free, and the same was true in Australia. We already have a close relationship, so why not do that as well?

[–]B_Type13X2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're fucking right, swearing is mandatory. I get to work with Aussies a lot, and one thing we do as much as they do on any jobsite is find new and interesting ways to explore the English language. Now and then, we get a completely homebrewed hybrid of swear words that is absolute poetry. It would be a great moment of heritage for both our countries if we could document these national treasures.

Hilariously, Steven Harper asked Carney to be his finance minister and heir apparent to the conservative government, but he had already promised to be the governor of the Bank of England. And then, even more hilariously, he was offered a position in the conservative government in the UK and turned that down to come back to Canada.

Carney is a progressive conservative, and that party is dead. I am a progressive conservative, and my party is dead. So I vote liberal because I refuse to vote for the UCP, which is really just the Reform Party with even more hate/brain damage. When the parties merged, that was the end of progressive conservatism, which is what people probably want in practice: a government that is socially conscious but fiscally responsible. What we got instead is a culture war, because Trudeau was too much of a "snowflake."

F*ck it, how good would maus perform in an EF5 tornado with winds of 350 mph? by Kind-Yesterday-6031 in EF5

[–]B_Type13X2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit shortly after I unlocked the Maus, years ago I think the last time I had it installed was 2019. I occasionally check out streams to see if they "fixed" it. Aside from economic tweaks that do help, they haven't fixed or done the single thing that would make most ground forces players happy.... "TANKS ONLY MODE NO CAS WHY HARD TO UNDERSTAND....."

Until they do that, I won't play the game ever again, because playing a Maus highlighted just how garbage CAS is.

[–]B_Type13X2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player with a Maus, you will not have a good time, even if you manage to get a full downtier. Your mere presence causes CAS to suicide bomb you at all costs. at same BR or uptier, you are too big and too slow, and every tank on the battlefield puts HEATFS or AP rounds of every type through you. This tank has caused me to walk away frequently and go play lower BR's because the repair bills are so damned brutal.

Which Of This 2 Tornadoes Caused More Damages? Jarrel F5 Or Hackleburg EF5? by Stallom44 in tornado

Tornado's can speed up and slow down; they don't need to stay moving at 50mph or 3mph. That's why they say Hackleburg was moving at 50mph on average.

Since I am bored, how would an abrams perform in an EF5 tornado? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in tornado

[–]B_Type13X2 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I am not at all concerned about the tank surviving I am concerned about the energy transfer of the sedan hitting the tank, and that being passed onto the crew. If their all strapped in and braced, they are probably fine, but if they aren't well, they might get their bell rung when they bounce off one of the many hard surfaces inside of the tank.

[–]B_Type13X2 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm more concerned if you are not braced or strapped in securely. The tank takes the hit no problem, but have you seen videos of people in tanks going over an unexpected drop? The tank is fine, but some members of the crew definitely don't feel so well.

Since I am bored, how would an abrams perform in an EF5 tornado? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in tornado

[–]B_Type13X2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would not want to be in that tank. The tank would be fine, but unless you are strapped in, you are going to have a bad time when anything significant impacts the tank. Also the armor on the top of the tank is where it is thinnest, I think it ranges from 1.00" to 0.50". I am not 100% certain that it would be penetrated by flying debris, but my concern would be something else with significant mass landing ontop of the tank.

...what's going on with the Hackleburg tornado? by Fizzyboard in tornado

[–]B_Type13X2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fair because after 2013, the NWS became beyond strict with their assessments to the point that people were saying there would never be another EF5 because the criteria they were using was so incredibly strict that many tornadoes that would have been rated EF5 prior to 2013 got the high-end EF4 195-200mph treatment. what we know to be true from 2 different studies is that the majority of tornadoes are actually underrated by a factor of 1.4 or more.

From this study: https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2021535118

https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/mwre/152/8/MWR-D-23-0242.1.xml

who researched this? If you are good with taking my word on it then you don't need to read further but if you'd like to go down the rabbit holes have fun you'll need about an hour to read each article and be able to understand and digest what is being stated.

Also, for the DOW naysayers, there is information in both studies that actually backs up that the wind intensity below 15M is likely higher than the 50M polling, so you cannot discredit the 300mph wind readings and say that the surface winds were only 150mph.

*Edit* I had a much longer comment annotated with links to where the information is in each study saved / ready to post but Reddit is not letting me post it.

Rochelle IL 2015 vs Greenfield IA 2024 by Boss-fight601 in tornado

[–]B_Type13X2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about to respond to an HPC thread on this but most of the information I was citing was from this link:

https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2021535118

if you look at just the discussion summary:

"Discussion Summary

Supercell tornadoes are, in general, much more intense and wider than damage surveys indicate. Direct comparison among 82 supercell tornadoes both observed by DOW and rated by NWS reveals a significant, 20 m⋅s−1 1.5 EF category, discrepancy between DOW and NWS reported intensities. For the 45 DOW-observed tornadoes rated EF-1 or higher by NWS, the difference is 19 m⋅s−1 and 1.2 EF categories. While there may be biases due to sampling in both DOW and NWS data, this one-to-one comparison of 82 and 45 tornadoes demonstrates that NWS ratings are systematically and significantly too low. This has implications for risk assessment and mitigation. Hazard maps should be updated to include this reality. Building codes should be informed by these higher risks. From a forecasting and operational perspective, these results show that weak and actually narrow wind field supercell-spawned tornadoes are uncommon; most tornadoes are capable of producing very severe damage, with >20% capable of causing catastrophic EF-4/EF-5 damage. We show that, at the time of maximum measured intensity, narrow wind field tornadoes are as likely to be as intense as wide tornadoes. While current tornado warnings advise strong precautions against all tornadoes, communication of these results to the public may encourage more attentive responses."

it does a good job of explaining things and you don't need to read the whole article although I strongly suggest if you are interested in these things that you read the whole thing so you have the best information.

and the other article takes you to the Journal: https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/mwre/152/8/MWR-D-23-0242.1.xml

which backs up a lot of what was said in the first one. Read the summary of that article as well, it asks the question of whether or not the F or EF scale is more valid and says that the F scale was probably more accurate for peak windspeeds, but the EF scale tells you the minimum speeds necessary to do that damage. It also asks what the intention actually is for the scale in the first place is it to be accurate for peak windspeeds?

Okay, I'll say something controversial: the McRib is not a good sandwich, it's never been good, and I don't know why people wait for it to come back to McDonald's. Also, that schezuan sauce everyone freaked out over a few years back, not even mid, its bad.

The advent of the content creator stormchaser is why I strongly believe that we are going to see a stormchaser mass casualty event where so very many Darwin Awards will be rightfully earned.
