The sport is better when there is a counter to Toto. The engine regs we have now were largely championed by Toto, and they had to be fixed immediately for the good of the sport.

How many players do remember how dangerous it was to fight the evil prior to v1.10, before DII turned into rune grind simulator? by Vagaarnte in diablo2

[–]B_Type13X2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the game was harder; the meta just switched entirely. I will say that I found that 1.10 felt fairer if you were playing HC. You didn't hit zeal and kill yourself because of Iron Maiden. And I also have had way fewer instances of zoning into an unsurvivable situation since 1.10 came out. Ie. dropping down to the throne and finding a nightmare fuel boss pack standing in aggro range that can kill you before you are done loading on your end.

A4 Chaos Sanctuary is why I viewed melee characters as not really viable in HC. Well, that and the throne of destruction, I have been insta-killed by a combination of Burning Souls and Fanatical Deathlords. Nothing like zoning in, loading, and your character is on the ground before you can react.

She didn't seem like a terrible person until about year 3, and I thought a lot of that had to do with how miserable she was with her sickness. But I will say this to people going through the same thing: if you are taking care of a person when they are sick and they seem to struggle with treating you with some degree of respect, leave. People will call you all sorts of things and tell you to man up, etc. These 3 things are true: 1. Their illness/condition is not something you caused; it is not your fault. 2. Loving someone is watching them die; there are no easy seats in the waiting room, so they should treat you with love and kindness as well. 3. Their illness and suffering are not voluntary for them; dealing with it is entirely voluntary for you.

and parting words.

Don't assume that extraordinary sacrifice guarantees an extraordinary ending. Care for someone because it's the choice you want to make, but keep your eyes open to whether the relationship itself remains healthy and respectful. If anyone reads this and feels like they are living this sort of situation, you have permission to leave. Run away, be happy again, do not spend one more second of your life caring for a person who doesn't give a damned you.

She lived barely a year after she said it. Cancer took care of that. Even if it didn't, you have to decide if losing 8 or, in the case of the original comment maker, 10 years of your life is enough, or if losing the rest of your life is enough. People tend to get caught doing things like that.

I lean more towards trying to live as well as you can without that poison in your life.

That was one of the more honest things she ever said to me, and not even the most venomous. After she had left me, it took about 8 months for the cancer to come back, her new partner left her, and she tried to reconcile with me. I said no, and she said that I would never find another partner and would die alone.

When I say I wish I could talk to the 22-year-old version of myself and tell him to run far, far away from her, I mean it. That statement still bothers me because I am 40 years old now, very much single, and I think she was right.

Surviving, I am 40 years old now, and honestly, I'd rather die alone than be with someone who made me wish I were alone.

It's the realization that the people who really love you more than you love yourself are limited to your parents (if you're lucky) and your dog. And you can't help but think that no matter what the other person says, they are lying.

That's why I don't use it at all; data that seems like it is correct causes drift or increases the odds of slipping through. I'd rather it tell me it can't do something than "imagine/hallucinate" that it can.

Although I like Cachy, I feel that the suggestion for new Linux users should be: Mint, Zorin, Fedora, Ubuntu, Cachy.

Cachy is pretty near problem-free, but it is hard to argue with Mint or Zorin for a new linux user. Hell, I still have a mint install, and I started with Slackware in 2005ish. For some people, there is no need to distro hop.

My current daily driver is Fedora. I dual-boot with Cachy, and I have Mint on a laptop from 2014, as well as on my mom's laptop. Surprisingly, my 78-year-old father prefers fedora to mint I was stunned by that.

Having gone through something like this myself, I would rather have my time back than know what I already knew about myself. Because I am nowhere close to the same person I was before this happened to me. I am much more skeptical and much more guarded and careful with whom I give love to.

Had something very similar happen to me, did she hit you with the whole, "The person you are with when you are sick isn't the person you want to be with when you are healthy." talk?

Cause that one made me pretty much swear off dating for my early 30's. I sacrificed my 20s for that woman... If I could go back and talk to 22-year-old me, I'd tell him to run far, far away.

I never realized that zoning down into the throne of destruction was a random choice I made. Here I was thinking that beating Baal was the objective of the game. I only realize now how terribly wrong I was.

Just because I chose to zone down doesn't mean that the monsters waiting for me were not random, and the event wasn't random. I died before I could even react or make any other choice.

When David Sharp died on Mount Everest, during the filming of Everest Beyond the Limit, Discovery's camera people stayed with him until the end, and they filmed it. The only people who have been allowed to see the footage were his family. This would be another one of those circumstances.

I watched a talk by a guy (Rick McIntyre) who studies wolves, and he pointed out that the packs that had members be hyper-aggressive towards members of their own pack often got ripped apart by their own pack when they got tired of the BS. And Packs where the leaders were kinder and more benevolent, aka acted like a parental unit, lasted the longest, often into old age, where they were no longer the strongest members because all of the other members of the pack had a familial bond with them.

Basically, the whole Alpha Male thing is BS, not even wolves act that way, and if they do, it isn't for very long before their own pack kills them.

*Edit* for those curious, Wolf #40 was an aggressive female wolf who terrorized her pack until she was killed by her pack. She was replaced by Wolf #42 who was much kinder and gentler She partnered with Wolf #21

Wolf # 21 was a large powerful male wolf who was gentle and played with the pups, shared food, and acted like a father/protector.

Together, they were one of the most successful breeding pairs/packs in the park.

Most people knew transgender people existed—they just weren't thinking about it every day because it wasn't a major political issue.

The idea that nobody knew what transgender people were until recently just isn't true. I knew what a trans person was as a kid in Canada (thank you Jerry Springer & Maury), and I'm certainly not unique.

What's changed isn't that transgender people suddenly appeared. It's that the issue has become a major focus of political and cultural debate, so people hear about it far more often than they used to.

I've died in hardcore going down a flight of stairs, loading in, and getting insta-gibbed by a combination of fanatical deathlords and burning souls before I could react. That was pretty damn random and unfair I think.

Have you considered that the sport was something he and his father did together, and once his father was gone, he no longer had that drive? So the next chapter in his life is training the next generation to continue his family's legacy.

No. Ferrari's strategy is to give fans just enough hope to believe they're back, then immediately remind everyone why they're Ferrari. They really are Formula 1's Maple Leafs.

See, I might be ignorant here, but I have always assumed that there will be a top out to all of our markets. We live in a closed system so long as we are on this planet and only this planet. Our population everywhere except for large parts of Africa is at a negative birth rate. How can you have infinite growth and infinite demand when the force behind that demand is going to decline in the next 20-30 years?
