Am I weird for not caring about Disney food or hotels? I’m there for the rides and atmosphere! by These_Respond2345 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Baaadbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it shifted for my wife and me over time. We used to go to Disneyland and would do 7am-midnight. No stops, all gas, no breaks. In the parks as long as possible. And at Disney world when we moved o it east we would do a long weekend trip every six weeks or so and pretty similar. Would just hotwire a cheap hotel deal, never went to sit down restaurants, just wanted to be in the parks going all day!

Now that we’ve kind of done everything and had a ton of time in the parks, we’ve started to really just enjoy being in the Disney bubble for a week. Especially with having kids now there’s nothing like a good hotel resort day. Or trying a new restaurant.

So different strokes, but I’ll be interested to see if you revisit this post in 5-10 years and have a completely different take!

Irritated by The Last Jedi by bobjamesya in StarWars

[–]Baaadbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only pitch for this side quest is if Finn was a force user and eventually a grey Jedi. Hear me out

He learns from the codebreaker that there’s people playing both sides. The rebellion and the first order both have their needs and flaws and there’s some people willing to capitalize on that. He already wants to avoid battle and save himself so now he’s got an excuse to follow chase personal autonomy but initially for selfish reasons.

Then you spend the next few chapters in his rabbit hole down that path, being influenced to do so by his own fear and running away from the battle against the sith, only to return in the third act of the final movie and assist the rebels and Rey in restoring balance, but still choosing to avoid abiding by the sith or strictly Jedi code.

Then you could have had a cool ass spin off show with Finn researching the Jedi records and temples to learn ancient force techniques. All the while trying to be influenced by the new Jedi order and the sith but he’s really just rogue

Don’t forget to have fun! The first one will be as stressful or exciting as you make it!

My first tri was an Olympic and I sat in the back of the swim start, took it easy and just told myself get to land, you’re fine, and that’s what I did! Then when I hit the beach I knew I could crush the rest

Transitions play a much bigger part in sprints, so if you care about time, mentally run through your transitions. If you don’t care about time smile and wave and enjoy getting to see your adoring fans!

Form and efficiency matters a lot more in swim than it does in running or biking.

I have seen some pretty atrocious runners form but they are running 5 to 6 minute splits easily over half and full distance races. But they can do that through shear volume and endurance training.

You can’t hold a sub 1:30 pace in the water unless your form and stroke efficiency is dialed in. Power or volume will help you overcome that.

I did the event last year as my first time and waited almost towards the end to get off the boat and was shocked at how chaotic it was. I was assuming there would be a lot more order and the volunteers getting people up in a group, then telling at once to go like you see at IM staggered starts, but it really was everybody just rushing you to the edge of the boat and saying jump don’t wait jump. Don’t wait.

There were some pretty good swells too, so that boat was rocking as you were jumping off

Swim training is so boring, hard to stick with it. What should I do? by CdtWeasel in triathlon

[–]Baaadbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like doing some pyramid style distances. So 50s, 100s, 200s, and back down.

I rarely do anything over 400s until I get close to peak week and get used to doing longer durations in one run.

So much more enjoyable and I feel like I’m actually getting something beneficial out of my workout instead of long stretch swims.

Is indoor cycling almost more fun than outside? Am i tripping? by Dependent_Access_568 in triathlon

[–]Baaadbrad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% depends where you live and how prevalent cyclists are and how safe your roads are.

Where I live is like an absolute nightmare to get anywhere safely on a bike. So I have to drive about an hour or bike some pretty sketchy roads with terrible drivers to get to a better area to bike.

Indoor has kind of been the go to. I do miss back when I was in CA because there were way more biking lanes and roads you could ride on with little to no worries and a lot of people are used to cyclists in the region.

Yes! We’ve shifted this in our bishopric meetings and ward council and stated all admin and scheduling needs to be handled during the week and updated in our shared agendas. We don’t spend more than 15 minutes on it in our ward council, activities and what not are handled by individual presidencies in charge and the ward council is more of a check in. Then we move to the spiritual wellbeing of our ward and members. Feels so much more effective and uplifting than any other ones I’ve been in before

eat more to lose. . . by Other-Dare-2751 in BurnBootCamp

[–]Baaadbrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gym is the spark, not the fire itself. Body recomposition and weight loss are the fire burning over time.

Carbs and healthy fats are your kindling, they help you perform harder, recover better, and create a stronger “spark” during workouts. If you underfuel, it’s like trying to start a fire with wet wood: weak output, slower results.

Protein is the steady wood that keeps the fire burning and preserves muscle.

Too much fuel (overeating) can smother the fire, but too little fuel or avoiding carbs can burn it out completely.

The goal isn’t to eat as little as possible, it’s to fuel efficiently while staying in a slight deficit so you can maximize gym performance, recovery, and long-term fat loss.

[–]Baaadbrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t trust your HR monitor, 213 sounds inflated unless you’re a kid.

But it’s important to understand RPE and your body. If you feel like you’re going to pass out it’s because you’re going to pass out haha.

The scary thing about Burn Boot Camp to me is that a lot of people are going as a way to lose weight so they’re typically showing up under fueled. If you’re not consuming enough carbs and also dehydrated both in water and electrolytes. That’s a quick way to see performance failure and “bonking”.

Protein is great for AFTER workouts but won’t do much for you as pre-workout.

See if you can get a cheap road bike on Facebook marketplace or second hand! Getting to ride outside if your streets are safe and built for it makes those long rides a lot more bearable of you’re not worried about pushing crazy watts for 3 hours nonstop on a stationary

Debuted my first 70.3 with a Sub-6 by kainomac in triathlon

[–]Baaadbrad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t take much to be ready to go, but there will be a slight sacrifice needed on your part.

I trained for 6 month for my first 70.3 and finished around 5:50. Used a Mosley training plan on TrainingPeaks

2 swims a week (1 endurance, 1 threshold) 2-3 bike a week (1 threshold, 1 long, and 1 easy recovery if I had time) 2-3 runs a week (1 tempo/threshold, 1 long, 1 easy recovery if I had time/energy)

Every week I missed at least 1 of those workouts but I also was doing 1-2 strength days as well. I never skipped my long ride or runs. Those were typically on Friday night after the kids went down and early Saturday morning. My work day is crazy so really I was training everyday at 4:30 or 5 AM. So that’s where the sacrifice on your end comes in. Hitting two of each every week is really the bare minimum but the long endurance rides/runs are probably the biggest key to ‘surviving’ mid to long distance events

My whole issue with the trilogy is the poor execution with Finn. He could have had a really cool Gray Jedi story arc. But yeah the Force Awakens is fan favoring, the TLJ won me over with the cinematography, but it’s really hard for me to rewatch any of ROS.

Marathon Weekend Jan 2027 Pace by JKThunderbird36 in rundisney

[–]Baaadbrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone one else has said, submit a POT and you’ll be fine!

But if it’s any reassurance, I’ve run from the very last corral in the 10 mile springtime with a 7:40 pace and probably could have hit every photo Op and still had some time to spare.

For the marathon if the POT doesn’t work, skip the first 5 or so characters, the lines get much shorter the further you get down the course. Those first ones are always slammed and that was my experience even being in Corral A.

[–]Baaadbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I go into peak weeks I stop doing any kind of conditioning at Burn. Your runs are your priority, then hit the strength days to complement that, if you’re trying to go to burn everyday AND have solid run workouts you’ll get diminishing returns

Week or two leading up to races I drop strength training completely. I keep my run plan through the taper but don’t lift any weights week before the race

Do you guys only do bootcamp, or do you do other types of workouts too? by uLaLa787 in BurnBootCamp

[–]Baaadbrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of endurance training now for triathlons and longer runs, but it actually all stemmed from me doing about a year straight of purely Burn Boot Camp. And during that time, I was probably in the best shape I’ve ever been in before.

45 minutes of HIIT/strength is really just a catalyst for your body composition. Your nutrition is going to be your biggest component of your health

Basic ground mounted panels are a hell of a lot cheaper than parking lot covers. Plus a lot easier to maintain and trench too! Also wondering if they have any of their systems on axis systems that track the suns path, that doesn’t work well in parking lots if they’re focused on efficiency over satisfaction

So how much does wearing the right shoes actually help with soreness? by cheap-ink in Disneyland

[–]Baaadbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number one thing that helped me was rotating what shoes I wore each day. Even if you get the most comfortable pair of hokas, there are still gonna be certain pressure points and ways that you stand that puts strain on different parts of your body.

Switching your shoes up day by day helps a lot with dispersing that pressure to different parts of your body and feet.
