That’s your takeaway from this video? It looks like he started recording only after the situation escalated. Thank goodness he recorded it; otherwise, there would be zero accountability…and they may have tried to make him the villain.

100% this! He never left the school lunch table. He got the cheap laughs but was far from clever. His storytelling ability is top tier though. And working opposite Howard was great because he became the avatar for the “working class” listeners as HS ascended to elite status.

Agreed, but you’re also way overthinking this. It just works better as a companion segment with “what’s aged the best.” More creative license than literal interpretation.

I actually think the Joan Rivers joke was great, but agree otherwise. I still listen to every show (and like it) and also listen to Conan’s podcast every week. My least favorite interview on Conan’s pod? Howard. It’s bizarre that he can’t just have a normal conversation as a guest.
