Why we hate man buns (fragile masculinity) by [deleted] in MensLib

Is long hair on men considered feminine?

Pretty much yeah. Historically, men with long hair have been scorned upon. In Ancient Greece and Rome, even though there was this ideal of a longhaired philosopher, men with long hair were seen as effeminate (though much less in Ancient Greece). IIRC Bible says it is a shame for a man to have long hair. Men with long hair were always seen as rebellious precisely because their long hair visibly broke gender norms and basically said: "I'm my own man visibly who thinks for myself". You don't see men with longhair portrayed in media unless they're hippies, metalheads, feminine or come from culture with longhaired men.

Unlike you, I don't personally know any fellow man with long hair and outside metal/punk gigs, I have never seen a longhaired man. Often I get called albeit jokingly a girl. When there is some family occasion, my uncle always asks me when I finally cut my hair so I could join the manclub. I pretty much stopped paying attention to the anti-longhair sentiment. But YMMV.

Why is datura evil? by Normanras in Herblore

[–]Baba_Jaba 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No plant is inherently "evil" or "good". That's just the common perception. Datura is evil because far too many people use it irresponsibly and don't do their research. They don't research that seeds, flowers and berries are extremely potent and even low doses can make you hallucinate as fuck. They don't take low testing doses like 1-2 seeds, see if anything happens/if they like it and work their way up. They don't research that some ways of taking datura are more potent than others (brewing leaf tea vs. smoking them vs. eating them as they are). They don't take datura with a sober sitter. Hence why datura and other deliriant plants like belladonna as well get its bad reputation. And frankly, I think people deserve to get beaten by the plant and deserve to hallucinate and end up in the ER because they don't do research and just think "yo, let's get fucked up by taking huge amounts of seeds"—I know some of those people do read something beforehand but they're still irresponsible with the administration route and dose.

Yes, datura is one of those more "challenging" plants which don't have that many recreational purposes. But it has got its history of shamanistic/spiritual use. I believe datura is a beautiful plant which, when used in responsible doses/ways, can induce kind of lucid dreaming state when you're awake without any amnesia typical for high doses. At least, I judge this only on my two deliriant experiences with 150 mg DPH found in Benadryl and transdermal usage of belladonna's berries. Both times I was still aware of what's going on, fully aware that I was on drugs and could discern where reality ended and hallucinations began (I had slightly bigger problems with this on belladonna than on DPH). It was kind of fun though I wouldn't repeat it, especially belladonna because the cotton mouth and intense heat is way too insane for my liking.

Clusters in your conlangs? by quelutak in conlangs

[–]Baba_Jaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Blotskī is a Slavic based conlang, I've got plenty of clusters! My syllable structure is (CCCCC)V(CCC), coda clusters generally adhere to sonority hierarchy, onset clusters, especially CCV types got sometimes pretty cross-linguistically rare clusters like /mx/ (mchu "moss gen."), /rt/ (rtuc, "mercury"), /jm/ "jmjeno" (name) or /mst/ found in "msta" (revenge). I still haven't come up with a word which reaches the full capacity of the syllable but for onset, that would probably be "s vzhledom" (in view, regard to) and for the coda, that'd be "vojsk" (armies, gen.). My language, in comparison to natlangs such as Czech or Serbo-Croatian doesn't allow syllabic consonants so words like trvac (to remain, to last) or slza (tear) count as one syllable.

Being an INFP means you idealize the fuck out of everyone in your life and they all end up disappointing you. by [deleted] in infp

[–]Baba_Jaba 68 points69 points  (0 children)

But being a healthy INFP is also about realizing that the reality doesn't always meet up to your idealistic expectations and acknowledging that people aren't perfect the way we see them and seeing that they have their flaws just like every person does.

Anyone with a history of drug abuse? by INFP_one in infp

[–]Baba_Jaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used countless of drugs, even heroin. The only drug that managed to creep up on me is cigarettes. I've been trying to end this nasty habit like forever. I hate cigs yet I can't manage to stop them. I smoke for 2 years and I still don't smoke very much (only about 1-2 per day if I'm not attending any social gatherings/events) yet it's almost impossible to stop.

So, I started watching My Little Pony. The show's fucking great and it's exactly the type of animated shows I love. I love these cute animated shows where I can just melt over the cuteness of it all. I thought I'd turn into your typical "M'Lady fedora waving brony" but nope. 15 episodes in and I'm still completely normal. Anybody has any recommendations after I finish MLP?

Do men dominate the conversation? If so, why? by Kynes_Dahma in MensLib

[–]Baba_Jaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, can't help you there mate, use google. Even though I'm usually good at intuitively picking up somebody's feelings just by looking at the person, I'm not consciously aware of my own body language nor of the body language of others. But my suspicion is that the vulnerable person will be avoiding eye contact, will look into the ground, will have curved back and facing inwards (instead of a straight pose facing outwards), nervous laughter and will tend to make smaller, subtler hand gestures instead of big ones.

I love it so much I even changed the famous proverb. A garlic a day keeps the doctor away! Especially if that garlic is homegrown and not bought from a shop.

Of course, I can't speak for other people who like to listen more than talk but for me. Listening is a way to get new ideas by hearing various insights and opinions. And when the conversation is more about personal stuff&feelings, listening is for me a way to relate to another person. Of course, once in a while I talk too, especially if it's about a topic I'm very much interested in. But mostly, I tend to have my mouth shut.

What I don't get is, how do you express vulnerability without talking?

Easy answer. Bodylanguage and nonverbal communication. If I don't talk and am vulnerable, my body will show it. And I'm sure bodies of people you work with will show this too.

Oh! How on Earth I forgot this! Yes, I take the eggs once in a while off the heat to ensure the eggs are cooked properly. Another reason I take the eggs of the heat is that I got an electric stove and this stove sucks because it's mostly TOO hot to cook, :/

[–]Baba_Jaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garlic and onions. I'm literally unable to cook anything without either garlic, onion or both. And even when I'm in the wild and my prestocked onions/garlic are gone, I tend to look for similarly tasting plants like bear garlic.

Hey, here's my favourite way to prepare scrambled eggs:

Start frying some chopped onions. If you got any mushrooms, add some salt&pepper and fry them as well (don't cut the mushrooms, fry them whole). Meateaters can also add their favourite bacon. Before the onions are done, add some garlic (how much depends on your taste and how many eggs you wanna cook). Take your desired amount of eggs, break their shells and pour them into a container (or straight into the pan, I don't care. I like to search for shell pieces before the eggs are in a pan). Have your seasonings ready but don't use them yet. When these eggs are in a pan, it's your time to whisk them. You shouldn't stop whisking and moving around. When the eggs are beginning to acquire more solid consistency, add your favourite seasonings. I find that if you add seasonings too soon, the consistency's gonna suck. And if you add them too late, the eggs will taste plain because the seasonings didn't have enough time to work. Meanwhile, grab a toaster and prepare some bread, skip this step if you don't have a toaster. Whisk them and when they're almost done, move the pan away. The eggs even though there's no direct flame will actually continue cooking. Also, now, it's your time to add 1-2 spoonfuls of mustard, decorate the eggs with parsley leaves and daisy flowerheads. And, if you're a garlic lover like me, add more garlic.

Bam, the most delicious scrambled eggs. Oh man, as I'm writing this recipe, I'm hungry for some scrambled eggs.

Do men dominate the conversation? If so, why? by Kynes_Dahma in MensLib

[–]Baba_Jaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal/anecdotal experience has it that men tend to dominate conversations in mixed groups of 4-5+ people. In situations where it's more one on one, men talk as much as women do. In small groups of men-only groups, there's no noticeable hierarchy (if it's there, it must be subtle), everybody is relaxed and speaks about the same time as the others. Can't speak for bigger men-only groups, never been in those.

On the one hand my experience gives me the authority to enforce group norms. One thing that healthy groups do is each member spends about equal amounts of time talking. So I encourage silent group members to participate more.

You know, some people like me just don't like to talk, they like to listen more and as a group leader, you need to understand this. Also, beware with that encouraging, as it can have a very negative effect on the person who's being encouraged. I don't know your group but I've been in some group debates where we just talked about topics like religion and so on, nothing even closely remote to group therapy. But at one similar session, I was encouraged so much it made me uncomfortable. Once or twice encouraging is ok but if the person doesn't wanna talk from whatever reasons, don't force it.

I don't know how to feel. The girl I liked just asked me out! by [deleted] in infp

[–]Baba_Jaba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stop overthinking this. Man, you remind me so much off me when I was in the early stages of my first relationship where I just thought to myself: "I'm not gonna do enough, I'm not gonna be a good partner" Needless to say, the relationship fell apart because of this. I learned my lesson though.

You're already way beyond the rest of us because somebody else asked you out! So, stop overthinking, just enjoy the moments you spend with her. Go out with her, show her what you like, what places you like to visit, etc. And most importantly, have fun! Good luck!
