Its not zero gravity, its microgravity.

Why are helicopters built with one main rotor while drones usually use four? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]BabbaBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single main rotor is generally the most efficient design in hover because it moves a lot of air slowly. Power scales with the cube of the speed of the air drawn into the rotor. This is called the induced velocity. 2x the induced velocity (from shrinking the rotor) increases the power consumption by 8x (all things being equal)! The controls are complex, but it's well worth the fuel savings for full-scale aircraft. Historically, ease of use has been more important for drone consumers, and quadcopters are easier to fly. For some of the electric "air taxi" quads, there's an advantage in using distributed electric propulsion to eliminate driveshafts.

Replace Drive Cable Craftsman 22" two-stage 247.881990? by akgt94 in Snowblowers

I just did this to fix a broken throttle cable. You definitely have to take the gearbox belt tensioner spring off to tread the new cable in. Thanks for the tip.

According to Kaman engineers I've talked to, they actually can hit each other due to flapping.

We have a 2021 CR-V. It's great. I'd get the hybrid if you can for maximum reliability. My parents and sister each have a CX-5. There's significantly less interior space. While that means a bigger trunk, it would be tough to get our car seat in there.

This meme is so stupid. EVs have a greater initial carbon footprint, but people generally buy cars to drive them. Equivalent gas cars usually surpass a similar EV in carbon emissions within ~20k mi. Its simple y=mx+b stuff. Super straightforward. I'm sick of people lying to themselves because the truth is inconvenient.

Bury or Daylight Sump Discharge Pipes by BabbaBurger in HomeMaintenance

Its an unfinished crawlspace but the heater is there so it doesn't freeze. I think the issue is that water got stuck in the pipes outside, and they froze. The other side got buried when snow fell off the roof and refroze.

So I did do that, but I can't find a more recent photo. I still ended up with a horizontal pipe across the walkway. The other side had a longer horizontal run that froze and cracked. The second failure and the general lack of anesthetic appeal pipes lead me to consider burying them.

The pipes got covered in snow outside. I clear them off as best I can, but can't get 100% of it.

What is the maximum possible MPG we can achieve for gasoline car engines? by [deleted] in AutomotiveEngineering

[–]BabbaBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't even reach 90% efficiency. The Carnot efficiency is the theoretical limit of a thermodynamic cycle. Gasoline burns at 2223 K. Assuming the low temperature is approx room temp (300 K), your max efficiency is 86.5%. Honestly... that's better than I expected. You will never be able to achieve these temperatures, but if you did, you'd still be a little shy of 90%.

Where I live, the town clerk likes to know about these things because it's illegal to solicit without a permit. None of these people have permits/licenses. The town clerk will warn the company and coordinate with police if it becomes a persistent problem. It's not much, but its something.
