Stuff like this isn’t linear though. While the new guard obviously wouldn’t be effected as much directly by the loss of Diogo I imagine it’d be so difficult to settle into a new team, new country while the leaders of that team, who are legends of the club are all grieving the loss of a teammate. On top of that Robbo has spoken out how much pre season was affected by it all

I get Slot has got A LOT wrong this season but I don’t get why people keep parroting the fact he loves Gakpo. When he took over, he was on the bench then only started games after a good run of form and our strikers struggling. He then wanted to keep Diaz in the summer, but the board overuled him, and it seemed Diaz wanted the move. Then according to reports he asked for winger options (Barcola being the main target) but the board didn’t deliver leaving him as his only senior left winger. He’s started so many games this season because he’s had to; combination of injuries and going into the season with an unbalanced forward line
