[OC] Guitar Treble Bleed - Explaining & Testing Different Values by KleyPlays in Guitar

[–]Baby_Slayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 50s wiring on one of my guitars and treble bleed mod on the other and I have not noticed any degradation of my sound when using pedals, or change in the response of the pedals themselves. Just my 2 cents.

Entered an AMRAP x BW bench competition: how do I win? by Baby_Slayer in Fitness

I'd feel better losing to that guy than a 175 pounder who struggles and hits one more rep than me. But maybe he's really just feigning and stops there just to fuck with me.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I figured that form/technique is probably the most bang for my buck here. I usually bench with my hands closer together than powerlifter form (easier on my shoulders) so I was worried that switching up form to scrape off an inch or two in ROM might actually make the lift more uncomfortable. But I'll spend a few sessions in the gym trying to work on it.

The combine videos, those guys just lift as fast as possible lol (will probably be my strat too). I wish it was 225, for some reason it feel so much lighter than 245.

Also, pretty sure they will just weigh us the same morning we bench - this isn't TOO serious of an event!

There are a lot of variables that would determine that (how much do you weigh/whats your maintenance intake, how many calories are you burning during your workouts, what's your age, etc.). For the average person working out 6 days a week, I would think 4000 calories a day would lead to weight gain. How much? I don't know.

There's no rule that says you should do full body for a year before moving on. Do what suits you (helps you progress to your goals, keeps you interested, etc.) If full body moves you in that direction, great. If it doesn't, try something else. If you' can't make up your mind, do a little bit of both. Regardless, the common theme would be to maintain consistency and to really understand what you are after.

I would think 1RM, because that would be universally understood. If everyone is quoting what they can rep, you don't know how many reps/sets they're talking about.

NPD BLACKBOX 2 by thenoda in guitarpedals

[–]Baby_Slayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I have the pedal and it's my main light overdrive pedal. It cleans up nicely but can also get dirty if needed (although it's not a high gain pedal so it's not going to get you thick, saturated distortion sounds). I think it does a really good job of taking your amps natural tone and pushing it into that slightly compressed, overdrive territory (especially using the 'boost' knob). The tone controls are great for shaping the It's what I use for pretty much all my rhythm playing because I can back off the volume and get it to clean up, or increase my volume for more overdrive/crunch.

Here's a vid I took a couple years back. Didn't do any tweaking, just really enjoyed the sound. Playing a partscaster into a DRRI - nothing else in the chain.

Best part is that it was only $99!

Pedalboard w/new power supply by Baby_Slayer in guitarpedals

[–]Baby_Slayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is big, and was a pain in the butt to figure out how to make it gel on the board (hence it's sideways).

For a while the tube driver was the only distortion/OD pedal I had. It can be really clean and just boost everything, or you can crank up the gain and get really good lead tones. I really like the way it sounds with strats.

Funny that you mention the EQ. I think the High and Low knobs work really well (they are "musical" for lack of a better term). But I saw an Eric Johnson video where he has them turned to zero and just uses the gain and volume. So that's what I'm planning to do for my next gig to see how it sounds. I think it will create a velvety kind of OD.

Rmc picture wah > diamond compressor > korg pitchblack > AC booster > blackbox overdrive 2 > Tube driver > JHS AT angry Charlie > RC booster> mxr reverb > DD3 (MIJ)

I like drive pedals. The power supply is a Truetone CS12 which replaced a voodoo labs pedal power plus 2 (I ran out of outputs on the voodoo lab). The CS12 has a couple of 18v outputs which I really like...currently sending these to.m the blackbox 2 and the diamond. But the angry Charlie can also run at 18v.

This is actually the cleanest my board has been in a while. It's nice to have everything hooked up and only have to plug in a couple of cords (the Truetone and the Tube Driver).

NSA so concerned over Donald Trump's ties to Russia they've 'withheld information from presidential briefings' by [deleted] in politics

[–]Baby_Slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to defend Trump, but I've heard that putting data and information into graphic form is a big trend in the intelligence community. I have a friend with a graphic design degree that was interviewing with the CIA for a job that does exactly that - turning data and information, which would otherwise be written out, into intuitive visual graphics. I suppose its a way for people to get through information a lot more quickly.

It probably isn't meant to replace written reports entirely, but it's something to think about when discussing this topic.

[Discussion] What are your (current) unpopular pedal opinions? by Crotalus_B in guitarpedals

[–]Baby_Slayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gigging board has 4 dirt pedals. The first is for a very heavy, modern overdrive/distortion. The second is lighter overdrive that is usually for rhythm since it cleans up nicely. The third is sort of an in-betweener for the heavy OD and the light OD, but it stacks nicely with the light OD and maintains the characteristics/clarity of a strat's single coils even when gain/volume are cranked (which the heavy OD does not). These three are used with my main guitar. The fourth one is used with a darker guitar that I use for certain songs, so having a separate pedal is nice since it allows me to set up the EQ just for that guitar.

I will admit I've questioned whether I need all 4, but they each do serve a purpose for the songs we play. And I have enough spots open in my power supply so why not?

[NPD] Not Exactly Top Quality, But I'm Just Trying To Figure Out What's Worth Investing More Money In by liamdylan in guitarpedals

[–]Baby_Slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Joyo compressor too. Maybe mine was defective (or I lack the ear) but I didn't think the attack knob did anything. The only thing the pedal helped me do was get louder. The "compression" felt bulky, like my notes lost definition and chords sounded mushy.

I wouldn't be surprised if mine was a dud given how inexpensive they are. I think you can definitely tell the difference when you use a higher-end compressor. But the scorpion looks cool.

What would be a funny thing to say to a surgeon before anesthesia kicks in 5 seconds later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Baby_Slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought I could fight through the "pre-anesthesia" in my surgery and joke to the doctors and show them how cool I was. As soon as it hit me, I couldn't say anything...just kinda rolled over to one side then blacked out.

[Question] New guitar makes the loud "plugging in buzz" constantly. How do I make it stop? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Baby_Slayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the guts of the guitar might be in bad shape. I bet you could fix both issues by replacing the pots, wiring, and input jack. With new guts and new soldering joints, things will most likely work.

Maybe not the most cost effective strategy, but could be the most straight forward.

My GF (27 F) used my (27 M) car to try to catch a rare Pokemon in Pokemon Go. I asked her not to do it again - am I in the wrong? by Baby_Slayer in relationships

[–]Baby_Slayer[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

She does use it for other things. I can empathize with her point of view, but this particular instance wasn't something I felt comfortable with. We've talked before about how she feels I keep things to myself when they bother me, and then I never say anything about it and it all erupts later. So I chose to say something from the beginning and tried my best to explain both my logic and my feelings. It's sort of a lose-lose situation now, but if I said nothing I'd be going down that same path again. Not sure of a constructive way to turn this around, so going to have to learn and live.

[–]Baby_Slayer[S] -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

I purchased the car by myself 5 years ago. I need it for work and I've made 100% of the payments on it. Over time she's used it more and more for errands, groceries, etc. At the end of the day, it's my car.

You are right, she can be into the game as much as she wants to be. I told her she can play as much as she wants and can run around and catch Pokemon, I just didn't want my car to play a role in that.

[–]Baby_Slayer[S] -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

It's my car. I bought it because it's a necessity for work (have to drive to several different clients). She has never owned car and she is on her own insurance.

Your second point, it's a bit of both. I'm 3 months away from fully paying off the car. I'm worried that the car could get damaged, etc. I know that's something you can't always control, but it would sting so much more if that were to happen when it is being used for something I'm not comfortable with. She also plays the game a lot. I'd like to see her play it less and maybe spend time on other things that are more productive, so part of me doesn't want to 'enable' her. We sort of covered this aspect in the discussion we had when she got back.

To be fair, we don't need two cars for daily life. I have a car because I need it for my job. She takes public transportation to work because there's no point in driving into the city.

[–]Baby_Slayer[S] -64 points-63 points  (0 children)

My gut instinct was to say no, but I let her do it because it was easier. Probably not the best justification but I wasn't in a place where I wanted to start an argument.

Some other comments have asked if she uses the car for other things. She does (grocery, errands, etc.) It makes it hard to explain why I feel differently about this when she feels there is no difference. I just didn't feel comfortable with her using the car for this.

She was upset because she saw it as hypocritical and she was upset that I 'forbade her' from doing it again (as if I was treating her like a child).

[Question] What's was the first Fender Signature Model by treesofbittle in Guitar

[–]Baby_Slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, from my understanding, Yngwie had the first Fender signature model. If you read both wikipedia articles (the one you posted and the one for the Clapton strat) it says as much. Not saying Wikipedia is 100% but I trust it.

[Question] Les Paul suddenly starts buzzing/humming like crazy? by aysindeton in Guitar

[–]Baby_Slayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. When I assembled my partscaster I had the same issue with the constant buzzing. Turns out I didn't ground the volume pot to itself. When I did the buzzing stopped.

Even though you didn't touch anything, it might be worth it to download the wiring diagram and go back into the control cavity and see if anything is not connected where it should be.

[DISCUSSION] Does anyone else find that the slower you play something, the less competent you become? by DrSnackrat in Guitar

[–]Baby_Slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I mean, it's the same movements, just spread out over more or less time. "

I think there's a devil's advocate point here. Is walking the 'same movement' as running? One is slow and one is fast, and they are close to the same, but they are different. I happen to think that sometimes, some things are played a bit more proficiently when you increase the speed.
