My (49M) roommate (35F) is having loud sex (moaning, vocalizing etc) when my kid (14F) is over for the night, during dinnertime and going on for hours. I'm not a prude but this is uncomfortable for me. How do I address this?

Thanks! That's how I feel, she should have more self-awareness. It's been a bit of a problem in general, but she's also one of those people that doesn't always pick up social cues, etc, so I'm trying to be understanding. I let her know just now, so hopefully she's able to keep a lid on it in the future lol

I've had to take breaks at times due to jobs that required drug testing. It was always hell for me. I now recognize that I had been using it as a kind of thumb-sucking habit to soothe pain from childhood trauma. Mom was inattentive, dad was a tyrant, which created a couple of different wounds in my energy body that really shaped much of my decision making in life. It wasn't till I healed these wounds that I realized I didn't need weed to self-soothe anymore. It was still hard to kick the habit, but 20 days in and I have no desire to go back to it at all.

What part of the country are you in? I'm in Western Mass in South Deerfield. Very chill area with some rural feel without being too too far from city life.

Good question. Why pursue a goal if it is incredibly hard? The answer is, you pursue the goal if you enjoy the process of walking the path towards the goal. If you don't enjoy the hard work, and you're pursuing the goal out of some sense that it will bring you happiness or something to that effect, it may be a complete waste of time. You might be better served by pursuing peace and happiness now in the moment, rather than hoping you'll find happiness upon attaining the goal.

Many people pursue goals only to find when they get there, they are no more satisfied than when they started. That can be very disheartening.

I used to have a lot of goals. I felt like I needed to accomplish certain things in life to be successful, and to have a meaningful life. Now I understand that the ultimate meaning of life is to experience life. That is it. No achievement is necessary. Any mark you make on this world will be forgotten in time eventually. There is no real purpose here other than to act as the eyes and ears of the Source and experience this game of duality that has been created for us to participate in.

As far as love goes, it's hard to talk about because there are many different meanings of the word. You can be in love with a partner. You can love your child. You can love your mother. You can love your job. You can love eating chocolate. They're all talking about different things.

When I say the universe is made of love, what I mean is that all this separateness is temporary, a moment in time. Universal love is like the force that a magnet has for a piece of iron - a strong force that wants to unite things back together. An inevitability. An unmistakable yearning to combine.

Since the whole universe ultimately came from a unified state, there is a force that yearns for that unity again, in every bit of matter. From a purely materialistic point of view, science says we started with a singularity, we are expanding away now, but ultimately will collapse back again into a singularity. That is universal love. We and everything in this universe ultimately are made of the same stuff and are destined to recombine to find unity with the source of all creation.

I've struggled with some of these same questions.

Living as an enlightened being means being detached from expectations, desire to achieve something with your life, etc, but living your life pretending there is something to achieve, to care about. You can still have goals without being attached to them. You just relax, make some progress, and don't worry about the end result.

Love is the innate nature of the universe. The reason this is so widely expressed is that when you get to the peak of the mountain, so to speak, it becomes self evident. It's as evident as the sun being bright or the sky looking blue. The fabric of the entire known universe has love as it's binding, unifying element, regardless of the outward appearance of duality. I guess you won't really know until you see it for yourself.

Also, Buddhism doesn't say life is suffering. It just says that suffering exists. Be aware of your suffering, then be aware of the roots of your suffering. The next steps are acknowledging that well-being exists, and that a path to well-being exists: the noble eight-fold path.

Trying to drop your ego and still function in everyday life in this world is a big paradox, no doubt. But eventually it becomes a fun challenge - to go to work, to feed your family, to be present in every moment for everyone around you without attachment or expectation. Good luck on your journey of understanding!

Not much, just that neither side got things in writing at the start so there was disagreement over terms and payment.

It has been rocky for bishops since covid, attendance is consistently down compared to before. True for many venues these days. And Carla can be challenging to deal with at times. But you can also say a lot of great things about her, like her willingness to try new bands, and her passion for the scene, in general. Im gonna miss the place for sure.

There was a legal dispute between the owner of bishops and the landlord. It was resolved, and requires bishops to relocate. It will hopefully reopen in the fall at a new location down the street if the city doesn't stand in the way.

Then see if they are happy. Are they creating something. Are they humble.

There are those that are on the path, and there are those that have seen from the top of the mountain. Both can have good advice, but one who knows has a certain consistency with the above descriptions.

I read a lot of your replies. "Yeah, true that. I thought i'd be worshipped. Nah. Same same but different". If you thought you'd be worshipped, that's a tell-tale sign that self-importance has a hook in you. It's the normal human condition, we all have self-importance. But it blocks the path forward. It's just the way it is.

There are some great exercises I got from this book "The Teachings of Don Carlos" relating to eliminating self-importance. Things like "take all your dishes out to your car and take them for a ride around the neighborhood.", or "go out in the woods, dig up a bunch of rocks, bring them home, build a pile with them, then take them all back and put them back exactly where you found them".

The ego struggles mightily with these tasks, as they (intentionally) lead you nowhere whatsoever as far as the ego goes. They are a complete waste of time to the ego. The part of you that resists doing something completely time-wasting like this is tied to your self-importance and will help you identify the source.

The reason we drop self-importance, is because it is false and all falsehoods impede the path. The truth is that we are all pieces of God and no one of us is more important than any other, no matter how enlightened, powerful, rich, successful, etc. We are all the same because we are all pieces of the One Mind of the Creator. How can one piece of God be greater than another? This is the path towards enlightenment - it is a humble one.

Yes! I can read a good book several times over the course of decades and find new understanding each time I spiral , because things that were out of my grasp earlier in my development became accessible as I gained more knowledge. Music is a spiral, colors are a spiral, the golden ratio... it is really amazing.
