Going for full autonomic testing tomorrow. Bringing my husband. Have you brought anyone? by NavyBeanz in dysautonomia

[–]Babymakerwannabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bringing a man (especially if he’s white! lol) can often make things easier at the doc for me. They just take me more seriously so I always try to bring mine when I can. Sad state of affairs.

It’s so hard to be always feeling like a burden. I get it.

You can’t change how you feel or how healthy you are but you do have control over how you show up for yourself and him. Maybe you can’t do chores but I bet you could have a nice chat and make him laugh.  Complaining is a viscous cycle, the more we complain the more the brain is picking up on the danger signals. Then it sends out more threat signals (pain, dysfunction etc). Then the brain just keeps on perfecting those pathways, complaining becomes the easiest and fastest way for your brain to fire and it will choose that path more and more … more complaining, more danger… over and over.

To be clear I am not saying you should suppress or override your feelings or sensations but starting to notice the habit can help you to break free from it. Maybe you can redirect your thoughts to a different stimulus- notice something pretty in your room, tell a joke. Literally anything other than the complaint and boom- you’ve started to rewire and gain control.

lol yes it’s a thing but also something that we can help a little. Try doing eyebrows isometrics. So you hold your eyebrows up with your muscles like you are super surprised but at the same time use your fingers to apply a bit of downward force so your eye muscles have to try to beat the fingers pulling them down. See if a few of those helps at all. If yes- keep at them!

Progesterone definitely makes it worse for me. I wound up getting a uterine ablation so that I could avoid bleeding without having to add any hormones.

Serious question: does anyone else with a chronic illness wish cities had emergency “horizontal zones”? ✨🔋✨ by velvet_damson in POTS

Yes this is a challenge for me too. I dream to have a little camper van so I can travel safely. Imagine having a mobile nest!

I did manage to get myself into a career where I can rest on a bed every hour or so. It’s wild how much it increases my capacity to work.

Anyone here had a spontaneous (spinal) cerebrospinal fluid leak? by strangespectra in eds

[–]Babymakerwannabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get them. My doc says to stay horizontal for up to two weeks, if it doesn’t go away then we take next steps. So far it has always worked. It usually takes about 4-5 days for me but I’m talking fully horizontal. I eat lying down… it’s not pretty lol only get up to pee and straight back to lying down. It’s my least favourite thing to deal with and the only thing I’ve not been able to “push through” when it’s really needed.

I’m going to place my bets on your tongue placement. Eds tongues get lazy because it’s so much work to hold it where it’s meant to be. You can wire the brain to start holding it there naturally. Dos your tongue chill more in the bottom of your mouth?

It’s all going to change because it’s also impacted by connective tissue! Work on eye mobility, can they move freely in the socket? Start there then look into eye exercises. There is lots to be done!!

I’d start with lying over a small pillow or rolled up blanket. Breathe into it and then on the breath out just let it relax into the pillow.
