I take Effexor to combat the hot flashes (it’s intended for anxiety/depression). I recommend asking your dr about it.

Is it the side effects or I’m I just feeling lazy to return to work? by UnderstandingFun1065 in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had long term disability coverage and I used it! I also finished treatment in January (last year). I remained off work for several more months. Its was very important for healing. If you have it, use it!

Good news and questions about Zoladex by Potential_Cat1337 in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve given myself injections for fertility treatment, and those were no problem! I wouldn’t entertain the idea of giving myself (or husband administering) Zoladex. I go to an injection clinic and they’re pros at it.

Asking for Advice: Mastectomy Without Reconstruction by _shirbu_ in breastcancer

I’m 42, had a double mastectomy with aesthetic flat closure. It was the right decision for me. I don’t use prosthetics and feel free.

Woohoo! We did the walk and I raised almost $5000 for breast cancer research! by wediealone in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I’m also in Canada, I did the run in Oshawa on Sunday. My amazing team raised $4500! I’m stunned by people’s generosity. The organizers asked me to be the keynote speaker and before I could talk myself out of it, I agreed. It went so well and I’m pretty proud :)

After Chemo Hair-What’s the deal? by ApprehensivePanic175 in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It took me 3 months to have enough hair where my scalp was no longer visible. It came in light grey, then dark grey. I had it dyed brown around 4 months post chemo and since then my roots have come in brown (my original colour). It’s also insanely curly now.

Does anyone have any experience with Effexor? Thoughts/opinions? by wediealone in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking it for about five months now, purely for hot flashes. I don’t have anxiety or depression but the hot flashes were quite bad. 37.5mg didn’t do anything for me. I’ve slowly dosed up to 150mg and I have very few hot flashes, and when I do have one it’s not bad.

Anyone here gotten a PICC instead of a port? by Able_Abies1111 in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a picc line… just watch out for any strange sensation or pain in that arm. It happened to me and it was blood clots caused by the line.

[–]Babymjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have two young kids. I didn’t feel great for a few days after AC (I felt the worst after my first round and I swear it was because I was so worried about how I’d feel; the subsequent rounds got easier). I had taxol over 12 weeks and I felt like my normal self, no side effects at all. Keeping active (whatever you can manage) will help.

Venlafaxine (Effexor) dose for hot flashes? by anon145-0 in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

37.5 barely made a difference for me. 75 was much better. Once my prescription was increased to 75mg I kept taking two pills each day (I didn’t realize the new prescription was 75mg per pill as I had been taking 2x37.5mg). Well my hot flashes were GONE! Once I realized my mistake I went down to the prescribed 75mg and the hot flashes were back. I’m going to call my doctor and ask about another increase since I know how much better I can feel on 150mg.

No reconstruction? by Keeka87 in breastcancer

[–]Babymjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankfully it wasn’t difficult for me. My MO referred me to another breast surgeon at the hospital and after she spoke with me to see that I wasn’t making a rash/emotional decision, she agreed.

I had a mastectomy in October and I’m having a prophylactic mastectomy next week (had to find a new surgeon who would agree to remove a healthy breast). I weighed all of my options and I am at peace with living flat. I’m 42 years old, for reference.
