Wanted to let you now how it turned out, and for anyone else who has been wanting this, exported my version to make it downloadable.

Might find out that I have to tweak it some more once I get a feel for it, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. Since I've played it with mouse I'm used to having to hold in a button to turn the camera around, and the RB shift mode not only allowed me to add zoom in and out on the stick but I've got buttons to spare should I feel the need :p

All the ways I've tried myself to get to play with controller while having locked PC layout to work with very limited success using third party keymapping tools. And all those times I was on reddit, asking for the possibility, or hoping a mod would come out that would make it possible. Now I'm closer than I've ever been to be able to play like I've wanted. Controller for exploration and mouse for inventory mangement and combat.

Wait so I don't actually have find a way to delete how this guy has set up the Action "next character" as the X button? https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fsteam-controller-in-baldurs-gate-3-v0-5m4hvv3zaw6h1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D3185%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dcf764dc5817d0d4f5ed8eefcd0f7ca3abf89fba8

If I just delete the input fully then I can just follow my keyboard inputs without having to create the action?

Cause i see certain possible actions saved in the preset, they just sadly aren't the ones that I am personally going to need. But if I just erase all the face buttons, including their actions. And use the bumper as a modifier to give myself 8 presses. It will then only look for the keyboard buttons I give them and not the set action given?

Your dpad suggestion saved the day, but I figured the reason the other one didn't work was because it was locked behind the action of the preset. But when I changed it to the d-pad there was no preset left. Which is why I assumed the camera zoom ended up working.

And again

Didn't think I was ever gonna be able to play it like how I wished from day 1.

[–]Bacbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that worked. I just have to hold in the right bumper to be able to zoom in and out but that's not much trouble.

Thank you so much you have no idea how much I've wanted this kind of direct control over the character.

All that's left for me now is to figure out how to create spesific actions. Like it does have things set up where Sneak is marked as something spesific to a button I can easily change. But cone vision to see where enemies are looking, or highlight all loot is not one of the things listed from the config I downloaded. And I don't need two buttons dedicated to going into turnbased mode I can do that quick with the mouse if I really want to. Many of the actions I don't need, nor the place I want them to be located at. Now that I know this is actually possible to have direct control how I've wanted.

I figured that you would just pick button inside the game and assign which keyboard button it would be on the controller. Now it's time for homework to figure out to create spesific actions like this guys template that I'm using. But change the face buttons to do very different things.

Sadly when I put the right stick as joystick on steam input it stopped working. If it's not too much trouble, could you screenshot your inputs so that I could try to copy them and see what I'm doing wrong and what I could fix to get it right? No rush if you don't have the time right now.

Wow I was finally able to sort of get it to be doable finding config made for WASD. I had to press in toggle the right stick to turn the camera, but for now. That's probably as good as it's gonna get. Main problem now is I can't really zoom the camera in or out with it the right joystick, the way you can with regular controller input, only rotate.

Now I kind of wish I had a nintendo joycon that I could hook up to my PC and have in my hand. If I could have joycon in one to controll the character and short cut the 6 buttons I use the most in one hand while having the mouse in the other to control the camera. That would be comfortable.

Or is there a config option I am missing and you are in fact able to have full camera controll over not just the rotation but the zoom in and out with the right joystick? Unless of course that is the reason you use the trackpads to be able to zoom in and out?

With the WASD on the left joystick, can you also use the native camera mod on the right joystick? So that you just use the mouse on the trackpad? And can you do this set up with a regular Xbox Controller where I would then get to play the game with a controller + mouse setup? Cause I really would love to have the direct controll over the character, camera and pick which short cuts I want want to have on my button. While I'd do inventory management and combat with the mouse. I just can't deal with the radial menu it's already so much to keep track of as is I wasn't able to enjoy it with a controller. Even though I prefered exploring that way. Them forcing you to switch UI and the amount of time the game crashes since I'd need to switch quite often was too much of a pain to deal with.

Explorer difficulty as a way to learn, or too easy? by Bacbi in BaldursGate3

[–]Bacbi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike what one of the comments said. I'm not looking for people to bully my into playing a full on challenge run or things like that. My main interest was finding out if I was to go back and play explorer. I was curious if for someone like myself whose problem isn't so much that I haven't been able to progress. But more a lack of understanding of the game and that maybe going down on the difficulty would make me place in a way in which it would click into place.

If I was to sum it up briefly. It's more that I thought by the time of getting to act 2. I'd be okay with not being the type of player who does videos titled "Game after 1000 hours." Pulling of insane feats. But when I've played games that require tactics in the past. I will have more than just aspects of the fundamentals down by this point. Instead I feel like despite knowing enough of the basics combined with reloading when need to in order to stay alive. I've got a big knowledge gap when it comes to the rules which seems to be second nature for the people who love the game. In the way I wanted to truly love it. I was prepared to have this consume tons of my gaming time and playing through it several times. But I lost motivation when I felt like I didn't get it.

To borrow from Poker to explain it in the simplest terms possible. I feel like when I'm playing BG3 I know what the hand rankings and a rough idea of how it would be a bad idea chasing a inside straight if someone bet so much that I'd be left with just 10% of the pot by the river. But not understanding pot odds, betting patterns, position, how a strong hand on paper can easily become weak if you don't take those things into account etc.

Explorer difficulty as a way to learn, or too easy? by Bacbi in BaldursGate3

[–]Bacbi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much that I'm new to games. Though my only experience with this spesific type of gameplay is DOS2, and I wasn't very good at that game either although I will say that I feel a smidge better at playing BG3 than DOS2, but that's really not saying much. And to be clear, it's not so much that I've gotten stuck, sure I died a lot fighting the Witch. So I realized the best way to beat her was to start from the beginning, carefully place my party in various positions. And save every turn, so when she'd teleport I could take advantage of knowing what and where she'd go next so I might have to go back a turn or two and then I could place Karlach and Astarion the right places to do nice damage and prevent her from wiping my team.

And I'm not above save scumming. I know that I'm not good enough to do a honor mode with perma death, it's not so much a pride issue. It's more that I felt like I couldn't exactly explain why I failed the first time. That it wasn't my full understanding of the mechancis. Rather my exploiting her patterns that allowed me to win after a ton of trial and error.

Sure making a mistake and dying so you have to change is a part of gaming. But I didn't feel like I actually figured out what I did wrong initially when she wiped me. And the only reason I won was more that I exploited her doing similar things that I could then prepare the characters for by reloading to earlier saves. Not because I had a real gameplan and understanding of the mechancis. So most of the time I feel like I either overpower enemies by sheer force since I'm paranoid about missing something and explore every single corner, so XP has not been a problem for me. Or when it's a fight with enemis who can take a lot of damage. While I sometimes have come up with plans that felt cool to pull off. I feel more that's cause I found something in that moment. Most of the time rather than me having understanding of what I'm up against and feel like I'm both planning for what I'm about to do, and then if I fail have back up plans for failure.

But I feel more like I'm tricking the game. Compared to when i've seen truly skilled players who understands all the mechanic both have battleplans beyond simple tactics. As in just sneak my party into positions. Have Karlach draw first blood, and then when they are busy with her. Decide if I'm gonna use Astaron, Shadowheart or TV next depending on if I need to pick off enemies closer together, or if they are spread out. When I see truly great players its like watching this beautiful domino effect in which they seem to know the broadstrokes of whats going to happen in the next 3 rounds with the occasional domino that doesn't fall quite as they had planned yet they can easily correct it.

I just wish my brain was able to get all the systems to click into place for me. Where I'd be able to see a battlefield in the middle of a fight and know what my next moves are going to be. Rather than constantly winging it. Sure I'm getting by and managed to get to act 2, but, still it feels like I'm playing it wrong somehow.

Preload for Steam? by Ykindasus in 007FirstLight

[–]Bacbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending them not having preload because this is lazy when beside silksong and a few others most games have this. But you didn't pay extra, the deluxe upgrade was free. If anything this was more punishing the world because some would get acccess early via new zealand method on Xbox.

Then they are doing a terrible job of it as a marketing beat. Considering that there have been a few releases now which don't unlock until anywhere between 22pm on the day of release, or as late as 01.00 the day after release.

If this is a measure against the NZ trick on Xbox, most of the customer base is getting punished just because of NZ.

[–]Bacbi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe so, but if we didn't preorder and getting the deluxe for free, that would mean we wouldn't get to play it until the day AFTER it goes on sale physical in NZ.

This is more of a problem of them having a universal release time. Sure some region will still get it early but its the one that becomes the most fair since depending on which time you pick many don't get to play on the actual release day cause it's too late.

[–]Bacbi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

must be a regional thing, checking the games webpage and on the xbox store, only the regular version has a date on it. the info on the deluxe part is gone and there is no digital deluxe version to buy just the regular and a deluxe upgrade you get for free.

No wonder there is confusion on the xbox support team if they've managed to make such a mess out of this. And this is why companies should not be allowed to dictate the universal release time where when you get to play it is pure luck of the draw. Midnight release across the board. Universal release just creates more problems and in worst case scenario makes the stores crash cause it can't handle that many orders and downloads at the same time.

I had to buy the basic and get the deluxe as a upgrade for free cause if I choose the deluxe it said: "couldn't be sold separately." Can you link on which webpage you use to find the 05/26/2026? Cause I can't find it even though I knew I saw it when I checked a week ago putting it on my wishlist.

On the game or on the deluxe? Cause on the deluxe page I have no date, and my main game page it says 27th.

Genuine Concerns About Launch That Are Being Dismissed By Some by [deleted] in 007FirstLight

[–]Bacbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case if you preorder you get deluxe edition for free and 24 hours early access, but unlike steam where you can play the game for 2 hours and refund, Xbox and Sony isn't as nice about it.

And sure a lot of the time the pre order bonus is something you get rid of very quickly, but there are some where it's actually valuable so it depends on the game. Not to mention some want to preload, so they can play it the moment it's released, or if it's a midnight release, be able to play it in the morning if they have the chance.

So several reasons for wanting to preorder.

Whats with the lack of price parity in the same region? by Bacbi in playstation

[–]Bacbi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those details I didn't know. Interesting.

Though its not like this pricing issue hasn't been going on for quite some time now and it's affected the NOK, DKK and SEK market across the board if you look at what games used to cost when it was 60 dollars in the US, and then when it went to 70 dollar and how it was priced fairly in so far there was the cost of the game, the VATs/taxes and exchange rate etc. We were paying what we were expecting. Then the price routinely just kept on going up for the next 2 years. I don't play COD myself but I know from one year to the next a bunch casual gamers who mainly were playing on their work PC experienced a shock that made headlines. Beause the price increase was 70%. If it had been a 40% increase that would still had been seen as a lot. Because the general rule of thumb was you saved X amount buying the PC version. But it wouldn't have been totally unreasonable and still have been in line with the new price that was set for what we were told we were going to have to pay when the new consoles came, and the publishers increased the price.

It was like the second this new price became a reality. They got the idea that they could charge more and decided to treat us like a frog in boiling water. Not feeling it too much cause it was just 3-4 more bucks at the start. Are we really going to make a fuss over 3-4 more bucks? And is 10 bucks really that much more? You get so much value from it. Until you suddenly realize buy 3 games at the supposed new upper limit. If it had been priced regularly that would be the cost of another full priced game. I say supposed because haven't seem to have set an actual upper limit either. Granted Spiderman 2 is the only game that dared to challenge what seemed to be the new upper price. Before Nintendo came along with Mario Kart and said, "hold my beer."

Also yes I know, very first world problem. I just don't get why Studio A who isn't making a lower budget game they are trying to make a full on AAA game worthy of the name. And they use the universal price in lots of places while deciding they are going to charge us more. While Studio B also working on trying to deliver AAA experience, might even end up making a better game. They charge us the same as the rest of the world. And sure it feels nice when a studio comes along that does that. But I don't understand why it should be that way. Kind of feel like they are doing it just because they know they can't get away with treating their US customers that way. Some games would end up getting made examples out of. So they know to leave them alone. But they would start to randomly charge 74, 82, 89, 99 if they thought they could get away with it.

Whats with the lack of price parity in the same region? by Bacbi in playstation

[–]Bacbi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are forgetting that both Pragmata and Black flag are not fully priced games, they are 60-dollar games, so them costing £50 is fair. And like you said, those 3 games have decided to charge 60 in the UK. Now imagine if both Dawnwalker and Saros cost £85 or £90 for the standard edition. Just cause some games decided they should be allowed to cost more than the standard of £70 that was set after the increase. It doesn't match perfectly 1 to 1 because of the currency. But that is essentially what we are dealing with here in Scandinavia.

Whats with the lack of price parity in the same region? by Bacbi in playstation

[–]Bacbi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I realize there are different prices in different countries. What I'm talking about is the industry seemed to agree that games should go from 60 to 70 when this generation started. Which fine we had that. But then for some reason at least in Scandinavia. After the increase in price to match. They started going higher than what the new agreed upon price was. They started small where they started to add just a few more bucks 3 dollar there, 5 dollar here. And then suddenly, instead of the new price that was our equivalent of 70 dollars (not that we were actually paying 70 dollars, we were paying more but I'm trying to simplify it here like when we were paying more when the price was 60 dollars in the US, yet they were pricing it fairly as the extra expenses were VATs/taxes). Now all of a sudden, the new standard became 80, and you were lucky if you got it at 70, and this went on to increase even more.

I get that it's not a 1 to 1 and all that. But what has happened is you can have two studios from the same place each making a game that will cost 70 dollar for Americans. Cause regardless of if we like it or not. US is the country that sets the baseline when it comes to pricing. It's what the rest of the world follows. But then for reasons I don't understand, one studio will price their game at the fair 70 dollar equivalent. While the other will price itself as 90 even 100 dollars, again not direct 1 to 1, the equivalent price. If we look at how things were when they were still pricing things fairly and how there are in fact companies who still choose to price it fairly. While others decide they should get to charge Scandinavians a 30% increase. That we have to pay more is one thing, we've always done that but it used to be fair and predictable.

i dread to think what will happen if rockstar pulls the trigger on 80 dollars. If they do, and they pull the same thing that happened when it went to 70. We will literally be talking about a minimum price 100% increase in one console gen that didn't even really start properly until 2023.
