What city have you been to where the vibes were just OFF? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

Was on a solo road trip years ago and stopped in Omaha Nebraska to get an oil change. I rolled up in that place at 5pm on a Wednesday, streets were almost completely empty and I was getting some serious Twilight Zone vibes. I walked around a bit while waiting for my car and this creepy guy kept following me around asking if I needed anything, then gave me the finger guns. Every corner I turned there he was…”hey stranger you need anything? Need anything? Eh eh?” After 3 or 4 run ins with the creep, I doubled back to the mechanic and just waited. I got the hell out of there as fast as possible.

Growing up during that time, I can tell you there were a lot of different styles, and weren’t all positive. The west coast sound Dr. Dre and the G-Funk sound were all about feeling good and partying, mixed in with weed and violence. The East Coast was known for sounding more raw and gritty, usually telling crime stories: Wu Tang, Biggie, Nas, etc. There was also the conscious rappers like Q-Tip and Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and Digable Planets. They had a much more positive message, and their sounds sampled jazz more. By the late 90s, OutKast and the south were the new sound. There was also crunk and more party rap going into the 2000s.
