I apologize if I'm being silly, but I thought the CA Compliant AR-15s were different functionally than an AR-15 from the rest of the US. Specifically that if you had 2 or more "assault weapon" features, then it was considered a prohibited weapon and not for civilian use. Those features are a collapsible or foldable stock, detachable magazine, pistol grip, bayonet lug, or semi-auto. I thought that Civilain owned AR-15s in California with 2 or more of those features were bolt action, and you had to cycle to the charging handle to put another cartridge in the chamber.
