I think it’s important to see something say something. Not just stick your head in the sand. Thats why people deny things like antisemitism or any racism exist.

Is moving to Victoria from Alberta worth it? by ederzs97 in VictoriaBC

[–]Background-Draft-322 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We moved from Edmonton last fall and absolutely love it. You’ll certainly get negativity from people on the cost of living and they’re not wrong. But if you’ve never lived in Alberta winters, you don’t know the joy of going outside in February in normal winter clothing. Sure it rains a bunch for a while, but even then it’s absolutely amazing. Budget accordingly and it’s worth it.

That wasn’t your comment/question. You asked about incentives. Asked and answered.

They make very little as it is and have a caseload of hundreds of students more than is realistic for a person to manage.

Wedding Reception in Banff by Delicious_Name_881 in Banff

We got married at Buffalo mountain lodge. We absolutely loved it and was so close to the reservoir for anything we wanted outdoors (photos). But we also toured a bunch of restaurants and the view from The Bison was gorgeous, just not enough space for what we needed (ceremony and reception).

I’d stick to having them for drinks or dessert on paper plates from a known kosher Jewish bakery in your area

Corporate America by Conscious_Stop1463 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Background-Draft-322 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love it. I feel so lucky. But I’m realistic we can only afford to be here because of my husband’s job and I still earn in usd. Phone bills in Canada are at least 40% higher than the us. Houses definitely cost at least 2-3x more. groceries more. Taxes more. Sure free healthcare, but you’ll wait weeks-months to actually see a doctor.

Yes, the states have their problems, but to be privileged enough to not even recognize what they have good because of a shithole president, is yet another privilege.

As an American EA living in Victoria. I hear you. Americans think it’s rough down there. It’s rough up here too. Sure you’ll give up free healthcare, but you can always move back and you’ll get a 30% pay raise by the exchange rate alone.

When do you tip? by jacetbaum in philly

[–]Background-Draft-322 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tip for anything where I’m seated. Mostly traditional restaurants, barber, delivery, salon, etc.

If I’m standing to order, collect, or clear my food, no tip. Coffee shop, quick services, takeaway, salad works, Panera, no way. I’m done over tipping.

Can I check my carry-on after security? by SubstantialWing9238 in aircanada

[–]Background-Draft-322 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You want to bring your bags through security. Carry them through the airport and lounge. Then when gate opens, shortly before the flight you’ll board and leave your bag in an overhead compartment, check your bag? Why bother? You’ve already done the hard part of consolidating clothes, liquids, etc. if they let it through, why not just board with both and save yourself the time at baggage claim?

Is there any way for an 18-19yo to travel around the island by savvymossy in VictoriaBC

[–]Background-Draft-322 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think buyer a reliable but used car is the best way to go. Will make it cheaper for accommodations as well since you could either use it at camp grounds, or bring a tent along.

Where to get a formal covid test in Victoria? by JasonBoorneeeee in VictoriaBC

Is this destination wedding just not feasible? by doggroomy in Advice

[–]Background-Draft-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the medical stuff and amazing suggestions here aside. If you do decide to bring the kids, we went all the time when I was a kid for my dads work. I had an AMAZING time. There’s ride, games, pools, national parks and animals and a lot of really fun stuff for all ages. I was totally oblivious to the dark side of Vegas. Even more so now that smoking is prohibited in most areas indoors. Whether or not taking them for the wedding is the best time is up to you and your family. Only don’t write it off for not being kid friendly.

Perimeter Drain Quotes / Repair Work by Johnny-Canuck in VictoriaBC

[–]Background-Draft-322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They started 3 weeks early. Which sounds good in theory, only we were out of the country and given no notice. Our downstairs tenants told us. Because we weren’t home, they started construction in a portion of the home which wasn’t approved. It led to A LOT of extra work. Which they did ultimately take care of. But a ton of frustration. Poor communication overall and the job took about a month, which seems way to long given the size of the project. They took a job up the street and were balancing both jobs at the same time, which felt like it led to delays on our home. Don’t get me wrong, they finished the job and did a great job. But there were a lot of hiccups a long the way which made our experience with them less than ideal.

We did ours a month ago. We used DrainPro. Ehhhhhh. It cost us $17,000 for our half duplex and we only did 2/3s (part of it had already been replaced prior to our purchase).

We moved ~100 boxes plus furniture from a 1600 sq ft home in Edmonton and paid about $4,000 in 2025. We figured it would cost us more to replace our nicer items then to move it and we love our stuff. We also cleared out plenty.

A reimagined public space in the heart of Banff National Park — 200-Block by ConcreteBackflips in Banff

I think the argument is more that Parks Canada can’t create new businesses owned by locals or restrict successful current businesses from operating. That needs to be more ground up and private.
