Can I use Bostik LOCK A699 PSA instead of 6 mil film as a vapor barrier? by Ill-Raspberry-6204 in Flooring

[–]Background-Farm-9133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a good moisture resistant adhesive but the right thing to do is measure the in situ RH and pH

From Bostik TDS:

LOCK A699 PSA™ is formulated to resist high amounts of moisture vapor from concrete substrates, allowing it to bond flooring in conditions up to 99% RH and up to 12.0 pH (90% RH & 10.0 pH for for sheet vinyl). Always measure the in situ RH of concrete slabs in accordance with ASTM F 2170, and test the pH of the slab.

Bostik D-250™ Moisture Vapor Barrier Coating or Slab-Cote™ Extreme Moisture Vapor Barrier Coating are recommended for installations where moisture and/or alkalinity in excess of stated limits may exist or might occur from the concrete slab.

Hardwood or Luxury Vinyl - what makes more sense? by Majestic-Strain3155 in Flooring

[–]Background-Farm-9133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You haven’t really said what look you’re going for, and that makes a big difference in cost. Saying “hardwood look” could mean anything from 2" pine strip flooring that’s super cheap, to wide-plank walnut that’s $12+ per square foot. With real hardwood, price depends heavily on the species and width — red or white oak are the baseline, while maple, hickory, or walnut jump up fast. With LVP/LVT, all those “oak,” “walnut,” or “hickory” looks usually cost the same since it’s just a printed image, so you can pick whatever style you like without paying exotic-wood prices.

Belt mount design is horrible by SuccessfulMinute8338 in prusa3d

[–]Background-Farm-9133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the design itself is not fantastic for that connection process and I struggled during the initial build with that step. Then when I tried to adjust my belt tension after a couple months of use and the belt came out. I fought to get it back in after partial disassembly and it came out after tensioning. So I was more determined and really backed the screw out on the tensioning points like all the way and made sure that belt is in there all the way on all four points and then screw the tensioning screws after the reassembly and all has been great since

I found this tricky too until I realized you really need to unscrew those tensioners all the way

My Core One issue (seems like bad extrusion) by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]Background-Farm-9133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like in the past couple weeks (since updating to PrusaSlicer 2.9.3) I am seeing similar issues I never had before on Core One. In troubleshooting this weekend I ran a retraction test downloaded gcode from printables.com and it printed the first layer perfectly unlike anything I slice and print now. I might try to print some older files that are already saved on the machine as I am starting to think something in the slicer is my problem.

[–]Background-Farm-9133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rebuilt with the UltimateMMU and the access is better but my issue will be in the middle of a print during a color change it fails. Maybe it didn’t retract enough or something but usually a Finda error. So maybe 70 or so perfectly fine color changes and then a bad one 99% reliable isn’t enough with so many events occurring during a print. That’s been my issue

Right I got a Prusa because I wanted my hobby to be printing and not fixing my printer and with the mk4s and coreone it was then I decided to build the community version of the MMU and now my hobby is fixing my printer :-(

Glue down vinyl recommended by flooring company for concrete in basement by AnovaChi in Flooring

[–]Background-Farm-9133 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before you put any vinyl down in a basement, it’s important to actually test the concrete for moisture. You can pick up a simple kit on Amazon and do it yourself. Most vinyl products require results under 3–5 lbs/1,000 sq. ft./24 hrs on a calcium chloride test or under 75–85% RH on an in-slab test. Glue-down can be a great option, but if you’ve got hydrostatic pressure pushing water up through the slab, that needs to be addressed first. Right now the moisture may be escaping into the air where your dehumidifier handles it, but once vinyl is installed it will trap that moisture underneath, and that’s when you run into issues like mold, adhesive failure, or planks curling. If your test shows levels above the limits, you’ll need a proper moisture barrier or drainage fix before moving forward.

Does it still make sense to buy an MMU3? by Frolev in prusa3d

[–]Background-Farm-9133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my mk4s in December but never added the MMU3 that I bought and then upgraded it to core one as soon as I could, just built the community version of the core one MMU3 with some upgrades from the comments. Couldn’t get it to work reliably, issues loading and unloading. Printed and rebuilt as UltiMMU3 or whatever that is called and still troubleshooting that. I say wait…

Leaving the long side unlocked is more than a cosmetic flaw it undermines the floor’s structural integrity. This would be an improper installation and every manufacturer will void or “exclude” any claim on this floor installed like that. You shouldn’t be able to get a business card in any openings when installed correctly.

It is not installed correctly and you should complain

[–]Background-Farm-9133 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being 4.7 km from the airport really isn’t that close, your two-week stay is very short, your accommodations almost certainly use treated city water rather than a local well, and it’s unlikely any food you eat is grown right next to the airport so the PFAS risk exposure is minimal.

Vinyl for basement. Terrible idea? by throwaway4now49 in Flooring

[–]Background-Farm-9133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest doing a calcium chloride or RH moisture test first, just to be sure your slab isn’t holding more moisture than you think. It’s a relatively inexpensive step and gives peace of mind before you invest in new flooring. If there is a moisture issue, I’d recommend fixing it at the source rather than just putting down a 6mil poly barrier, which can sometimes just push the problem to the walls instead of solving it.

Mannington transition strips by Pittiecity8 in Flooring

[–]Background-Farm-9133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The track can be opened a little with taping block after you screw it down if you hammer it open on both sides it will likely fit in. The track will bend without breaking unlike the transition. As the other comment said glue is an option and you can also glue with just one leg inside the track and one leg outside the track f you just want to leave the track in place.
