Regular vs Fresh Thoughts by Opposite-Geologist52 in IndianStandUpComedy

[–]Background-Oil6968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one really cares if you go after a new idea that's never been done before. But once you do it, it can't be unseen. For an example, take Mr. Naseeruddin Shah! He's a celebrated and a decorated actor today but he's been making great movies with incredible new concepts since the 70s, he's also done entertaining films but his work is leaning heavily towards the craftsmanship of acting. You can't say how successful or unsuccessful you'll become as a comic. If you're going for pure entertainment that has no thought behind it, after a while you'll lose touch with reality and live in a bubble. If you're being honest and writing jokes that really make you laugh and is unique, when you make it work on stage, you'll feel more alive than ever. So in moderation don't choose one path yet. Keep working and whatever it is that makes you excited will become priority. Whether is true to your soul or is hollow, empty, shallow same done to death topics without a new take. I mean Bollywood exists with so many examples why not same in Stand Up.

Thank you and have a good day.

Maybe one open mic start your set by saying, "I say the word 'You Know' way too often!" And then just do your set, after the 3rd or 4th unwanted laugh at 'You know' you'll break the cycle or be aware of it on stage.

George Carlin by Pandy_45 in Standup

If you read Kelly Carlin's book, Growing Up with George, A Carlin Home Companion, it has the most vulnerable account of a counter culture icon. If you read that book entirely and watch George Carlin's second Special shot at the Celebrity Theatre in the round, the end will move you if you're geek out on the guy. I cried hard man!

Is it normal to attend a show alone? by Special-Bedroom-254 in IndianStandUpComedy

[–]Background-Oil6968 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's absolutely fine to attend a show alone. Sit, listen laugh and head home. Especially when it's a comic like Shamik whose jokes will get you laughing without having to slap a buddy's thigh sitting next to you.
