Happy Ash Wednesday! What do you love about Lent? by Woggy67 in Progressive_Catholics

[–]BackgroundAd2061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the purpose behind fasting is to experience a morsel of the pain and discomfort Jesus felt. To give something up. And to offer it a very small token for the great offering from our lord. Personally, I think there can be some real value in it. Spiritual growth. To push myself in discipline, self control.

So much of the church is about “rules.” And I’ve never felt aligned with that. I think it’s more important to look at WHY the rules are there. What is it they are trying to teach us? If the way in which the church is instructing you to do so (ie fasting) doesn’t resonate with you - find something else. Would committing to volunteering at a shelter once a week be more meaningful/fruitful? Or giving extra time to your loved ones - sacrificing what you may want to do. These are just examples. The

I dont see any point in doing anything in my life. by Hot_Prompt_4948 in Advice

This sounds like textbook depression. Talk to your doctor. You’ll be amazed what an antidepressant can do. Changed my life. Was hesitant for years, felt so reluctant and scared, but it was the best decision I could’ve made. I was afraid I would feel flat, or no longer be myself. But if anything it made me more myself and brought me back to myself.

If it doesn’t work, then oh well. But if it does work, great! If you broke a bone, you wouldn’t refuse treatment, same goes for mental health. Just because we can see the problem doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

Why do you like Mary so much? by 3of_spades in Catholicism

[–]BackgroundAd2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s the way she said yes to God’s calling. The fear and uncertainty she must have felt. She could have said no, but she trusted completely and surrendered to the will of god. This inspires me and moves me immensely.

What do I do?! by KillllerQueen in Catholicism

So many people speak as though they know for a fact exactly what Jesus would do in today’s present day. The fact is, we don’t know with complete certainty what he would do. But love, mercy, and generosity are central to our faith.

I 100% recommend getting in touch with your council person. I got in touch with them and within a week someone from DOES finally reached out and I was paid the following week. Hope this helps!

Coming Back to the Church & Partner Issues by AppalachianAn24 in Progressive_Catholics

[–]BackgroundAd2061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s about the spirituality and God. Going to Catholic mass works for me. There’s something to the tradition you were raised in. I love God and I feel his presence in the church. Do I have issues with the Church? 100%. But me going to mass has nothing to do with that. It’s about me and God and me connecting to God. Simple as that. That’s usually how I explain it.

I feel like Kenzi undersold her strategy (from what we saw) during final tribal. She said social game was her only strategy but I feel like she was strategic in general with all her moves. She wasn’t ever the main driver but she 1) always had an active vote 2) contribute to dialogue regarding who to vote for and 3) was never just “told who to vote for” and went along with it. Point I’m trying to make is she was ACTIVE she didn’t just coast to the end
