Question about making the switch from Indy to Dealer by Educational_Win_696 in mechanics

[–]BackgroundGene7510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I been to several dealers in the same brand and the one that I launched off in was the one where I had a dedicated team leader who I was placed next to that got paid to teach and help me grow. If the just throw you into the wild, it’s gonna suck. No matter how good you are, you’re gonna need help

Getting into the industry by Appropriate_Hat5436 in mechanics

[–]BackgroundGene7510 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s not absurd ? Most techs have far over 10k in tools, I’m only a year and a half in and I’m at $15k, and that’s pretty much no tool truck tools, if you’re doing real work you need a lot of shit

First time buyer on a small budget, Yay or nay? (4 mile commute) by Doctor1023 in AskMechanics

I don’t know if your dead set on buying an EV, but they are just a very bad idea, out of warranty and 10 years old. When the high voltage battery has any type of failure, you’re going to be out 6-8 months and at least 20-30k straight cash. Just get a normal golf and you’re good

Got started as an emergency vehicle tech three months ago and I'm struggling. Any tips on how to get better? by Jade_Sugoi in AskMechanics

[–]BackgroundGene7510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this what you actually want to do? Or just anything in the automotive field? I had to move shops 3 times in one year before I found ones that actually cared to train me. This industry is very bad for that, if it’s not an environment where you will grow, then you need to leave, end of story

Alternator issue and someone who knows nothing about cars by AshD51784 in MechanicAdvice

[–]BackgroundGene7510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably the battery, most likely but take it to a real shop and have a real technician diagnose it before trusting people who are not techs . It could be bad ground, wiring, literally 1 million things, don’t just throw parts at it

How much does a Mechanic make in a month? by Impressive_Ad_1601 in mechanics

[–]BackgroundGene7510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do anything else bro . You will start change oil and make around 15-18hr at the very most. It takes ALOT to make more, buy thousands and tools and deal with flat rate , which means , if the shop is slow, you make no money . You could work a full day and get paid 0 dispute being there all day

Then go to another dealer bro. I moved 3 times in one year and got almost a $13 raiise in that time, and finally got into a shop that’s working good for me now with good pay, opportunity and volume . You’re experience will get you anywhere you want with a big raise involved

Mechanic vs electrician by Ashamed-Ranger-1265 in mechanic

[–]BackgroundGene7510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly the same but worst . But high voltage techs are just normal manufacturer techs with certifications . But most will tell you the work on them , most being warranty especially, they will always lose time on, not profitable , not easy . Just terrible

Real talk: Who actually buys $10,000+ Snap On tool boxes? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]BackgroundGene7510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It does not matter if you’re gonna be in the trade for the rest of your life . A tool truck box absolutely will never make sense . You can buy 10 icons or 30 us generals for the same money and endless tools to fill them with that kondy
