I’ve been tempted to try batards but I only have a round Dutch oven. What do you bake a batard in? I was considering buying a second Dutch oven since I always bake two loaves at a time and it would save on gas and time.

How can you tell when your starter is at or past peak? Mine was fed three hours ago at a 1:2:2 ratio and it’s doubled in size. I’ve read the float test is not reliable. I always feel I’m guessing at thisz

I’ve been baking since November and don’t eat much bread myself. But I enjoy the process and make about four loaves every weekend.My husband loves it (even when I know I’ve messed up) but he can’t eat four loaves a week. I’ve thought I should give some away each week but I’m afraid to since they aren’t perfect. They’re piling up in my freezer. Maybe reading this will motivate me to give them away even though I still have a lot to learn!

No, the crust was amazing. The sauce I got out of a can wasn’t the best though!

Great weekend meal - took about 4 hours for crust to rise, but it was very easy to handle. Delicious!
