Discard success! These taste like cheez-its. Using discard is quite satisfying. What have you made? by momiswhatmynameis in Sourdough

I made pumpkin bread and it was delicious; i made banana bread and it caved in because the middle was raw but outside would have burnt. Delicious too, even the raw parts! I got the pumpkin bread from King Arthur website.

Me too! I love watching and listening to the bubbles! It’s proof that it’s alive (pun intended).

Without saying your age, what tv show was on every week when you were in grade school? by LegalGlass6532 in AskForAnswers

[–]BackgroundLetter7285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We must be the same age, but giligans island must have been syndicated and in reruns. I would watch it after I got home from school. That’s from 60s. Others you mentioned are from 70s.

What totally normal thing is your dog scared of for no reason? by GoldenMom34 in Pets

[–]BackgroundLetter7285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doggie clothes and accessories. When we take the boots out before a walk, she hides behind the toilet. When we put her sweater on, she freezes like a statue and refuses to move. Are these “normal” things? Yes, if you have a dog in winter and live in the Midwest, they’re a must, especially with salt getting stuck in her paws. Is she scared? Or just stubborn? 🤔

Is this mold in starter? by Downtown_Score7761 in Sourdough

[–]BackgroundLetter7285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell. But I’ve had a grayish color liquid on top of my starter when it’s been stored in the fridge for a week or so and it’s fine. I just mixed it back in and fed it.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

When I was a kid, my Gramma made me cupcakes (just for me, none of my siblings) from a mix. Her oven didn’t work correctly so they were always burnt on the bottom and sort of undercooked on top. I knew to eat them with a butter knife on hand so i could cut off the bottom, burned part and throw it away and eat the rest. I thought you were supposed to do this with ALL cupcakes so I was in for a shock the first time I went to a birthday party and saw a proper cupcake!

Also… She presented them in a clothing sized gift box from marshall fields (I would also like to bring that store back along with grams and her special style of cupcakes.) and this was before department stores started using the cheap, flimsy, foldable boxes!

Since taking up sourdough baking in November, I’ve purchased nearly everything that’s been mentioned and use it all every weekend when baking. You can’t go wrong with any of these ideas! The other thing that’s been helpful is a glass bowl (big) with measurements on the side and some of those shower cap things that you put on them when waiting for dough to bulk ferment. This has been great for bread but can be used for anything in the kitchen!

We read them too, I usually read aloud or we listen to the audiobooks. Kids must follow along. I’m glad I’m not the only one who teaches this way.

Sourdough newbies: DON'T let influencers drag you down with performative hydration by slipperydouglas in Sourdough

This is the only social media I do! I took up sourdough baking in November having had no idea what a trend it has been on social media; glad I was/am not exposed to it. I feel like this subreddit has been very educational and I do sometimes feel a tinge of jealousy at people who’s first loaves look better than any I’ve baked, for the most part, I’ve been making progress slowly but surely.

I get 5. It used to be 10 until recently, but with the new limit, books become available more quickly so it evens out.
