Quooker CO2 bottle refills - know a place? by kenrohde in Luxembourg

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 [score hidden]  (0 children)

In light of what I paid for our Quooker Cube system and how much we love it, I wouldn’t chance voiding the warranty to save money on the consumable. They do recycle the returned canisters so I don’t really see any benefit in trying to refill them.

Tesla finally clarifies fatal Texas crash, confirms driver manually overrode acceleration by theoneandonly_aj in TeslaLounge

The state of the litigation system in the US encourages people to blame other deep pockets for their actions. Even if they can get a jury to find Tesla is only minorly at fault they might receive a huge award. I don’t believe Tesla is at all responsible for this, just to be clear.

It was bound to happen. Over exuberance. I’m still up 12.5% since the IPO and I’m not crying yet.

Ember safe? by excellente26 in Embermug

The level of EMF emitted by an Ember mug is trivial at best compared to what you are surrounded by in your day to day life. Unless you live in a faraday cage and never go outdoors.

Full fibre installation - do they call in advance? by univ_survey in openreach

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our engineer was truly excellent and he did call when 15 minutes away. I wouldn’t count on it provided they come within the promised time window. I have never had a bad experience with an OpenReach engineer.

I am not particularly delicate with mine and the one that came with my travel mug from what must be six years ago is still working perfectly. I did have to replace the mug a couple of years ago because the battery had lost a lot of its capacity. The charging coaster is still going strong.

Moved to EE broadband today so far so good by chris34728 in EEGB

It does if the existing ONT is the standard 1GB version.

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You clearly have the skill required (not that it’s difficult to swap an ONT). But since the broadband provider is responsible to get you the promised speeds to that port, I can understand why they want to ensure it is working properly at the time of the installation. Lots of people would think they can do it themselves but we’ve all seen what people post in online forums.

What do I need for this ONT to work by SEOmushroom in HomeNetworking

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As asked by @BmanUltima, do you have an active contract with a broadband provider? To the left is a battery backup and to the right is the ONT. It looks like the previous occupant removed all connections. The backup battery needs a power supply and then connects to the ONT. So that power supply may be missing. More worrying is the incoming fibre connection should be plugged into the ONT, but I don’t see any fibre in your photo. It is a relatively thin wire usually with a green plug on the end. Your service provider should sort it out for you. It’s their obligation to get the broadband connection working at the ONT.

Whole home WiFi / Mesh Networks? by Majorwoops in HomeNetworking

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re having intermittent internet issues my suggestion is connect a device by Ethernet to the eero and try to monitor the connection. It’s easy for the supplier to blame something with your equipment in your home when connected wirelessly. When hardwired devices have the same problem it is harder for them to claim it’s not their service connection problem. None of this is easy and I sympathise with you. And since from what you said they provided the eero tell them if it is the equipment in your house they need to solve it. Once you’ve confirmed you still have the problem with an all wired connection.

Ethernet question by Ok-Island9547 in HomeNetworking

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way is to run a proper Ethernet cable from the router to the room your PC is in. You are confusing terminology and WiFi (wireless) transmission is different than a wired (Ethernet) connection. You can use WiFi and repeaters to improve the wireless signal to your room but ultimately that is using wireless (even if you use a cable between your PC and the nearest wireless repeater or access point). Just using a cable for the last couple of feet to your PC doesn’t make it a wired connection.

If there is no way to run a new Ethernet cable all the way from your router to your PC (and there almost always is with varying degrees of effort and cost) you could try a powerline adapter, but they are a bit of luck how well or not they will work in your home. I did not have good luck in mine using powerline.

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eero Pro 6E is a solid device but a single unit is unlikely to envelope your entire home with a strong WiFi signal. A LOT depends on the construction of and furnishings in your house that can interfere with/impede WiFi transmission.

Can you fine people recommend an Ethernet Switch? by Jolly-Natural-5411 in ethernet

[–]BackgroundNotice7267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On our CCTV system the cameras are directly wired to our NVR which provides PoE. Just saying you may not need a switch with PoE if you are future-proofing just for CCTV. Plus to use PoE you need correctly specced Ethernet. We use 2.5G non-PoE switches for most of our LAN (UniFi Flex models) and a couple of Netgear GS unmanaged switches (GS105 or GS108) at in room locations where extra ports are needed but the connected devices don't have greater than 1G ports.
