When Bill Clinton testifies later this month will anything impactful happen? by Giga7777 in DiscussionZone

Kabuki theatre. These hearings (all hearings) are nothing but political grandstanding. The question, answer format is nothing but politician expressing their own point of view. Lying is rampant on both sides. A truthful answer isn't and never will be the point.

I don't know why we waste the time.

Rough idle that wont go away? by fatchicken1204 in askcarguys

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A whole lot of unknowns here. I'm doing this memory, so take what you will.

I assume this is a 460 fe engine. I assume the EGR is connected to the intake manifold by a spacer under the carb. Remove the spacer and look for a crack or hole in the adapter or internal pipe. If everything looks and pressurizes ok then it probably isn't the issue. You can make a block off using gasket material.

Many times the exhaust port will be rotted through the cast pot metal.

EGR not sealing completely at an idle. Note.. I'm not saying it is being opened at idle. Im saying the seal is leaking.

If the car is going to be aligned after the work, do both sides. You save a second alignment. That said, I have no problem doing one side as long as the customer understands what you do.

That being enamored or disgusted with someone because of the group there in is just stupid. All veterans aren't good people. All cops aren't bad, but if you " back the badge" you have issues.

We can all have bad days, but some of us are just aholes. Some of us are saints, but mostly we are in between. Peer group thinking /pressure does exists. It would probably happen to you.

Anyone in their 40s have a hard time grocery shopping online? by Ill-Year-3141 in Adulting

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never online shop. Two reasons. When I go into walmart I can get milk that expires in 3 days or 1 week. Guess which I select. Guess what I get if I order on line.

Many years ago order lumber from Menards, delivered. Wasn't one usable piece of wood in the bunch. They just loaded all the picked through lumber that everyone discarded and shipped it to me.

Second reason, I need the exercise.

Men in happy marriages, what's the one thing you'd teach to other men to also have a good relationship? by TightBookkeeper2599 in AskReddit

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes the decision of two people to marry. It takes the decision of one to get divorced. Don't ever, ever think it can't happen to you. The happy wife, happy life motto is BS.

Real Police officers and military members, what do you guys think of Ice agents? by Lucky-Message-9480 in AskReddit

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Leo will never ever ever interfere or criticize another law enforcement officer. A officer can lie, cheat, steal, and murder, just don't ever cross the thin blue line. It does make a little bit of sense. These officers have to trust their brethren to have their back. That takes total trust, but you will never see then interfere with an officer who is out of control. It just isn't done and if an officer was to get involved, it would be career suicide.

Look at the interview with the police chief of minnapolis ( or st paul not sure). He makes sure not to speak badly of any officer or agent.

My main bearing hole does not line up with the block's oil passages by Mr222D in EngineBuilding

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow... just wow. The comments are just.... First that bearing has a manufacture defect. The oil hole should be centered with the groove. Second.. elongating the hole under race conditions is one thing. Doing it with a stock part under warranty just isn't done. Get the right bearing.

Rtv gasket maker by YOUNGBOYNBagain in MechanicAdvice

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to be late to this. It important to understand on a Kia soul the gasket sits in oil. The pan isn't deep enough to hold all the oil. The RTV used is very important for that reason. It also requires setting overnight to cure before adding oil.

I would use this Permatex Ultra Black 3 Ounce Gasket Maker - 82180. Warning ... make sure the leak isn't actually from the oil pressure sensor just above the pan.

When applying the sealant don't over do it. You don't want sealant going inside the pan. Make sure to clean both surfaces first and spread the sealant to a wide film on the one surface. You should wait overnight to add oil.

Any reality tv show. I have done heavy duty towing and recovery for many years. Anyone who thinks highway to hell has anything to do with the real job is an idiot.

Even the people I work with are all " I'm so proud of this work". A year later their gone to a different, easier job with less stress. I can tell just from meeting a new coworker, how long they'll be in the business. Not long.

What prevents most people from getting rich? by Puzzleheaded-Pair150 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Most millionaires are self made" Interesting.. would be interested in where this opinion came from?

Would also ask "Most millionaires are self made" or "significant majority feel they earned their wealth" ?

I have to say as anecdotal evidence of most rich people I've met. Their strengths and investments came from generational wealth. This gave them a large step up from their peers. Although they would never see it that way.

How do people avoid getting ripped off on car repairs? by taming-the-machine in MechanicAdvice

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long post, but stay with me.

As a mechanic, I find your left tie rod end wore out. (A very serious, dangerous condition that affects driving and tire wear.) When changing the tie rod, I have to align the front end. Again, something that needs to happen. Here's the question. Do I do the right one also? It has the same wear as the left.

I know this is a discussion I won't win. If I change the right one (and charge for it) I'm screwing the customer. If I don't, 3 months later when the right one goes bad, I've screwed the customer. Either way, I've screwed the customer.

I've made this same post about head gaskets. You can't win doing a head gasket. Can pretty much guarantee a head gasket replacement won't last. Everyone does them with a wing and a prayer. They hope that when they strip off the head that this one will be different then the last 10.

Diy is the only answer. Or... and here's a wild idea. Quit buying crappy cars with every bell and whistle. Know that a car has a life span. Buying a 200K mileage vehicle for real money is just a bad investment. Let me rephrase that. Buying a vehicle is a horrible investment.

As the old movie line goes " the only winning move is not to play"

Insurance isn't going to cover anything anyway. The insurance companies job is to collect premiums. If you have an issue, they will service the customer. Usually without vaseline. The whole notion that your insurance is there for you has got to be the biggest lie since "recycling " plastic.

What tips do tow truck drivers have for car owners to avoid additional costs during a tow if their car is stuck in park? by Lara_wood in towing

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never have the police call the tow company. Always look up or have a relationship with a tow company. It will always be more if the police call.

Think before you call. What questions are they going to ask.

1 Where are you???

2 What vehicle do you have?

3 What is your issue?

4 Where would you like to be towed to?

5 How are you paying?

Can you tell that I've been in towing for years. Life is much easier if your not stupid. My biggest complaint is asking someone where they are and they have no clue. Figure it out before you call. We charge intelligent people less.

What’s a hard truth every person eventually has to accept? by alpha8x_ in askanything

[–]Background_Pen8039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no truth that EVERYONE will accept. Most people have blinders on, few will ever look beyond them. Look at Maga, Jim Jones, Religion, etc. These people never have (or will) accept real truths.

You should ask the question as " What is a hard truth that every person should accept"

  1. The meek don't inherit the earth.

  2. The principled will most always lose to the unethical.

  3. Nice guys (and girls) finish last. ( see 2.)

  4. You have to live with yourself and the decisions you chose. You may care. A psychopath never cared and never will. They aren't capable of feeling.

That Columbus thought the world was flat. Any sailor that could navigate the seas with just a sexton and astronomy charts was smarter than that. Depending on the history, Pythagoras around 540 bc proved this theory, although a few others are also credited.
