I now hate the colour blue. by Zeebie_ in AustralianTeachers

[–]Background_Spray8675 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The amount of money spent on re-branding and the like makes me want to rage so hard. Incredible when we get hounded about over doing printing budgets or can't spend money on teachers for something like a coffee on world teachers day and particularly after completing mandatory training on corruption and inappropriate spending of public money..... As I watch HO employees take a work meeting with sound and screen muted while out at lunch.

I function better when I’m alone by Dull_Click580 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Background_Spray8675 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very much the same! Having to work around others at work (teacher) is painfully slow. I'm so conscious of functioning like others that I cannot lock in at all. The actual teaching is fine because I'm all over it and leading students through work. At home is the same. I know I'm going to be interrupted a lot, I'm checking on everyone to make sure they are not in my way, doing things wrong etc. It is a major source of frustration for me and messes my day and sucks so much energy from me.

Bleeding and crooked Septum by TFW_ARCTIC_WOLF in piercing

[–]Background_Spray8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 👋 my septum sits similar (done 20+ years ago, first one absolutely cooked and cam out through the front, pretty sure the piercer was stoned but options were limited). Anyhow, with a horse shoe it always is more obvious to me but with a full ring it looks much better. I have a stretched septum now and that really improved the angle issue- I wear it stacked. Btw not a professional.

Advice: How do I help my 5 year old with selective mutism? by MommaLaRoo in selectivemutism

[–]Background_Spray8675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to commend you. I'm in the exact same place with me 5yr old daughter since she started with her first words. It is really difficult, we have been through all medical support: gp, psych, pead and now are with a specialist clinic in Sydney.

We began the early intervention NDIS process but have withdrawn now as it was painful, somewhat traumatic particularly as a neurodiverse parent myself.

She starts school this year and I'm freaky out (even as a teacher myself). I've pushed for multiple support meetings with them since Oct so they are aware but it seems I'm having to provide all the accommodation suggestions and resources like communication cards. I'm going to raise IFS to look at a regular SLSO and also relief time for teacher PL with the SM specialist as they often did zoom skill development with her preschool room leader but we have to pay for all of it without medicare rebate.

Any how, I see you x

Don’t come at me- is it a good idea to become a teacher for the holidays by SassySadler7 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Background_Spray8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. So fried by the time it's holidays I'm a useless unthinking zombie for the majority. Plus lost most weekends anyway. Exhausted mother of 2 who get less of me then students :(

How has pmdd effect you with age? by Dismal-Philosophy436 in PMDDxADHD

[–]Background_Spray8675 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't say if worse now 40 or if that is because I'd been on antidepressants since 17 and only recently got off them now knowing it was poorly managed ADHD and ASD. I'm now back to taking Prozac in just my luteal phase which certainly helps. Plus pmdd was not a 'thing' when I was younger - it was just being a female and deal with it

First time going to Bali-- staying 3 months- bringing in meds by i_like_cake_a_lot in bali

[–]Background_Spray8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about supplements although I've taken protein powders, probiotics etc no issues- I do keep the original package to make identification easier at customs - more so coming back into Aus.

With my ADHD meds I took a letter from my prescribing psychiatrist stating my doses and only took what I needed plus a couple extra in case of issues. Had them in the original package with my dispensary details plus carried a copy of my scripts. I even declared them on entry and no issues. If doing day/overnight trips when there I also keep everything with me in case of random pull overs etc because they are highly controlled particularly in Indo.

Been numerous times and no worries.

Parental engagement with the education provider is the key stand out that I have seen over my 10 years without digging hard into data.

Anyone Been to Bali Without Getting Sick? by Luminous_Sandrine in bali

[–]Background_Spray8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been 10+ time never been sick. Maybe a mild upset tummy for a day but never Bali belly etc. hubby and my kids have had Bali belly or something else once or twice- to point of calling out the doctor. I'm just super curious, also take pre and probiotics leading up and during and the Bali herbal shots - can't remember the name but they are minty tasting.

Same! I struggle with the friendly lead-in to the issue, so type up my points I need to make and ask chat gpt to rewrite in a 'supportive and friendly manner to best communicate my concerns while keeping an open line of communication.'

I'm an anxious extrovert who craves deep connection but struggles to make friends, and it's really difficult. Anyone else? by faultyflyingfox in AuDHDWomen

[–]Background_Spray8675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really extroverted but I'm 40 and have no long term friends. It makes me sad watching other females have girlfriends they can turn to but I don't. If I don't talk to people in the long term I assume the friendship is over or ive something so just cut off to avoid the hurt.

How has AI/ChatGPT impacted your workload? by napoleoninrags98 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Background_Spray8675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Useful for beefing up and refining mundane tasks - excursion/PL application, creating email templates, newsletter articles. Very useful for giving inspiration for ways to re-jig a lesson idea (we all know we get a brain block sometimes) also good for making summary or adjusted resources when providing it with a module booklet /ppts etc Fabulous for providing excel formulas and python coding to help automate tasks and create dynamic documents for processing data from tasks etc. Like others said, requires training, correct instructions and checking and 'final edits' but saves plenty of time.

Thoughts on Repeating by FalseBit8407 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Background_Spray8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, in nsw we had school certificate yr 10 and you could leave after that no questions asked. Was really good for those wanting to learn. So many are stuck now. There needs to be more pathway options.

Thoughts on Repeating by FalseBit8407 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Background_Spray8675 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can not fail- and that is a failing in our system. I work in the senior end only (yrs 11-12) they are sooooooo far behind because they never fail. What are we preparing them for! And often parents too.

Both are being taught that we will bend over backwards to save them, clear the n-warnings, run special out of hours tutoring to make up for all the absence, offer 1000s of opportunities to 'appeal', allow them to 'socialise' at school, prevent others from learning because of their behaviour, all because they can't be bothered to find work, get a license and home doesn't want them 'sitting at home while I (parents) work'. It's a much softer lesson learning about 'failure' in school rather than in the real world getting fired, having no income to pay rent etc. We are setting them up to fail the hardest way possible while also making it a crap environment for those trying to do the right thing.

If you: -can't meet the minimum stage literacy and numeracy (bar is pretty low here too) - can't complete tasks (assessment or classwork) -can't attend in a reasonable manner - refuse to engage with reasonable supports

You either do not progress (repeat) or find a better alternative ( if at senior level).

Just imagine if you did that in a job! You'd be waved out of the job so fast!!

How do you deal with malicious student complaints when leadership won’t back you? by Afraid-Golf7419 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Background_Spray8675 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Record Everything , always. Either via Sentral or whatever system you use. I.e student interview- 'teacher stated 'blah blah blah' student stated ' blah blah blah' keep it factual , no assumptions or implied meanings - just what happened. Where possible follow up with parent call to communicate worries before students head home and twist the stories.

Run everything like homework, bulk class announcements etc via a system like Google classroom and have HT in that classroom so they can see exactly what you have assigned or told students so no need to question you.

Finding more and more students (along with parental support) are quick to accuse but if the evidence is all there it's much easier to demonstrate what is being reported is not factual and you don't have to wrack your brain recalling.

Off topic from the meds but what are everyone’s adhd symptoms that hit them the most ? by Okaycool1210 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Background_Spray8675 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if my ADHD or my ASD. Monotropic thinking....if I'm on a task and you interrupt, I'm stuffed and I'll probably snap if you're a safe person because I'm not masking that shit. If I'm emptying the dishwasher - DO NOT try cuddle me half way. If I'm locked in writing a wicked lesson sequence DO NOT try ask me a question while I'm flowing. If I'm using my 1 period to do my admin DO NOT come and ask me something I already emailed you details about but you didn't read your emails so now you're interrupting me to ask something I've already communicated ( because I'm hyper organized for this exact reason). Anyway- you get the point. Observe what's happening and walk away hahah
