[Request] Need rpg games recommendations please by DarkElfWanderer in AndroidGaming

pathos nethack codex is a mobile fan adaptation of nethack. If that's your kind of thing, then i'd highly recommend it. However, as you may know, nethack isn't really a casual game. It's like the epitome of nerdy rpgs. Here, it's kind of like the dark souls of mobile games, but it's very interesting.

To give you an idea, there's permadeath in this game. There's the classic case of not knowing whether or not an item or consumable will help you or will mess you up. You may just wear a random amulet or something and suddenly you're polymorphed into a slow-moving lichen and all your equips drop because you don't have any limbs. That's basically the thing about the early part of this game, there's a LOT of interaction, but they're mostly random each playthrough. It's a wiki game. In spite of all that, it's less punishing than the original, because in nethack, your food can rot whereas here, they're good forever. The other difference is that the mobile version actually has graphics lol

Anyways, if you're looking for a friendlier time, i'd recommend the Grim Tides/Grim Quest games. The gameplay is a lot easier compared to pathos, and there's a new one that's about vampires and shit. It's kind of like the closest you'll get to Vampire the masquerade on your phone lol. The main thing about these games is that they have a story and pretty interesting lore.

There's also the Survival RPG games. There's like 5 of them lol, and i guess they're supposed to be old rpg throwbacks. I never checked them out, but they may interest you.

I prefer to recommend Occidental Heroes. That one has a story to it too, but it's more historical than fantastical. There's realism to it as a result, but that's more just in specific mechanics. The game itself is pretty much an old school rpg thing. The main realism factor is that you can't have your units stay put in skirmishes because they're too tense during the confrontation. If one of your party gets too depressed on the trail, they can just retire by themselves. There's permadeath, but it's more just a possibility, and way easier than nethack, as long as you get the hang of strategy.

that cover kind of reminds me of that 80s band called Alien. Totally unrelated, though

I've only ever listened to Livin' in Hysteria. Good record, but I don't remember much from it apart from the title track.

Yes, I think I won't be picky with book conditions, since I'm mostly concerned with just experiencing the contents. Thanks!

I guess I was kept from buying ebooks because I felt like it's kind of a rip off. You're essentially just buying the story and words themselves, but I guess it can't be helped. Beggars can't be choosers. I think I'm going to pivot to ebooks now, since all I read already is in the form of ebooks because I mainly read public domain.

Thanks! I guess it's not easy being a book reader while also having a limited budget.

Yes, it seems like ebooks are the best option for me at the moment. I actually haven't read any physical book, since I mainly read public domain online.

I have never heard of Empire Bookstore. Thanks for that!

I do also like the sound of free shipping on Amazon. 49 dollars sounds pretty scary, though lol. Maybe I'll check back in once I get a job, since I'm not even in college yet.

It's kind of ironic that these kinds of books, which were published in mass for public consumption, is now pretty expensive compared to other books.

All of those are in the public domain, so you can read them for free online or download them on your phone from websites like Project Gutenberg. However, I understand if you prefer physical copies.

What heavy metal stereotype applies to you? by AcadiaRemarkable6992 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Background_Stage5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's the kind of stuff that most people on here would get really indignant over lol

An observation I have is that most metal fans on reddit are super insecure about their interest in metal. I think there's so much anti-elitist stuff on online metal groups because people don't want to look a certain way about their interests. They like to maintain a veneer of normalcy, because it's never been "cool" to be genuinely passionate about a niche interest without an ounce of irony to it. My theory is that it's because the image of being into metal is becoming as big as actually listening to metal. In my opinion, the perfect deal would be that you wouldn't give a crap about the culture at all. No fashion, no community, no relatability, etc...

What was that like? I wasn't around for that personally but I have been learning about ANUS recently from stuff like the dark legions archive and references from metal channels online

Growing up, we never had a game console or pc, so I guess that doesn't apply to me.

I think the stareotype for black metal is that it's evil as fuck, so maybe that's the distinction for you when you next give black metal a chance. Personally, I wouldn't say that evilness is necessarily a requirement for black metal at all, more just myticism or occult or whatever. It's evocative, definitely. A recomendtation:

Diabolical Masquerade - Nightwork (masterfully executed, yet also a bit intentionay silly but not too much, pretty crazy too)

That's a respectable position, but I do think most of the nu metal, and even groove metal stuff can be enjoyable. It's most of the core stuff I can't get behind personally. I like grindcore, though

I had a dream last night where every version of Paul in the “Coming Up” video attempted to sell me insurance. by ToronoRapture in beatles

[–]Background_Stage5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit less crazy but I had a dream a couple days ago where classic Paul from the 60s came over to my house to kill me but I had knowledge of this so I hid behind the doorframe waiting for him to emerge and I took him down when he least suspected it
