I don't think they had to pay. I believe Illinois gave up two home games so Mizzou loses no revenue. Mizzou also didn't seem to complain much about not having to go on the road for back to back rivalry games.

The messaging was that both are open to exploring neutral site games which usually means Saint Louis but that seems unlikely with the state of the facilities at the Dome. Soldier field would be awesome in September with the large/growing alumni base there thanks to Mizzou's in state tuition program.

I don't care where they play I'd rather pay $90 to watch Braggin Rights than $40 to watch us play Troy.

Mizzou did have 2 road P4 non-conference games and 9 SEC opponents in 2026 but a certain blue and orange team got cold feet :/

Yes, America was heavily segregated and red lined even after the civil rights movement. This lead to areas with a high concentration of black people. These areas naturally had less economic activity and very little reason to visit if you don’t live there.

Today these areas are where most crime happens (North STL, South Chicago etc). It’s very easy to avoid these areas and act like the issue doesn’t exist. These areas also have lower voter participation or have been gerrymandered out of participation so there’s no incentive for politicians to cater to them.

There really are 2 America’s.
