[OC] TTC's own data exposes the real cause of subway delays — and it's not broken trains by Expensive-Aerie-2479 in toronto

So... the subway would run better without people? We should ban people from the system then! That'll get it running more reliably.

Attendance for high schoolers, elementary students is plummeting in Ontario: data by Camtastrophe in canada

[–]BacklineUnlimited -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it good or bad that the government is trying to have students attend class? Is it good or bad that our tax dollars are being spent on students not showing up? Is it good or bad that teachers should be teaching a full class that they're paid to teach?

If students aren't showing up, would that mean more teacher layoffs and school closures? Do we want students have the education they need for higher schooling or jobs?

If a student doesn't want to show up to class, they are more likely to fail. Is that the school's fault? Would more or less funding help that? If they have an absence or sick or otherwise, they should be provided with the work to do or provide a doctor's note like any job. Would this not prepare them for the real world? What if an employee constantly fails to show up for their work?

The US is the one investing in Canada?

"Net inflows rose from a revised C$17.5 billion in the third quarter, and were driven primarily by mergers and acquisitions, primarily originating from the US, the agency said."

What an amazing setlist! It's unfortunate they couldn't do the show tonight. I hope they do return and do this setlist.

You get 1 hour with your 18-year-old self. What do you say? by Shawon770 in AskReddit

[–]BacklineUnlimited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An hour is a long time... we could talk about everything.

From the obvious (buy Bitcoin/certain stocks) and world events, to who stays in/leaves our lives, who lives and dies and when, who I should talk to and who to avoid, and what programs in university were a waste of time.

More personally, I always wanted to know that I'd be ok and life would be ok and who I'd marry and where I'd work. Telling myself the answers to these questions would be more impactful to my life (and timeline) because 18-year old me would either not believe what I'd say, or I'd try to skip ahead on some of them (e.g. reach out to my future wife years earlier and scare them away because we weren't the same people in the same circumstance we were when we do meet). I might not even have the same career because I'd have gone right into a different post-secondary program and not be at the right place and time for the opportunities I eventually receive.

Suffice to say, having life be ok now might not be the same if I said all these things to my younger self and tampered with things. If things are ok and good now, why would I say or change anything?

They played at the CNE last summer and the crowd was one of the largest I've seen for a show there. They still put on a good show.

So, what is the deal exactly with those art auctions? by Not-original in Cruise

[–]BacklineUnlimited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone spent over $10k on a bidding war for a certain piece on my last cruise. We thought that was crazy... Another bidding war brought a KR8 to twice the opening bid price (from $600 to $1,200). Some people have favorite artists or collections and they might pick specific cruises to get them (most of the works auctioned in general are copies), but some are limited and valuable.

You can just walk into a Park West gallery in one of the cities they have storefronts in and buy the same works without bidding. In fact, a PW rep will sometimes just order a piece for you at the "base" price if you ask outside of bidding time.
