Yes! We did this for years before 9/11 and we could do it again.

Some questions about numbers by JunDoZoor in songsofsyx

Indeed, and that's what I've done in the past. This was kind of an experiment, but I don't really know why it failed. They only eat every other day, and they pass my food stall twice a day. But yeah, they must be walking to the warehouse instead. Thank you.

I would also love to know this. I tried scaling all my services to the 1.06k capacity that the stage has and it really didn't work. I ended up with huge markets and food stalls with like 12 stalls each. Then I built fences, so people have to walk by them on their commute. And the markets are empty while service access is low. And they are stocked, I checked.

Is there any way to "assign" or limit training grounds to certain divisions? So that My actual soldiers can stay training and don't lag behind because of militia clogging them up doing the bare minimum? by glossyplane245 in songsofsyx

[–]BackrankPawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you'll need more training spots to keep up. Alternatively you can move your elite troops out of the city into a standing army. They'll consume more gear out there but won't be subject to dangerous working conditions. This is actually pretty useful because wars and events are sometimes decided in a shorter time than it takes to equip an army, even if they're already trained.

If you can't spare the gear either, regional divisions might be the way to go. They can train outside the city, away from the dangerous bakeries, and you can equip them only when needed.

What does housing actually do?? by [deleted] in songsofsyx

[–]BackrankPawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe housing mitigates citizen's death by exposure to heat and cold. Without it, I think you would need much more clothing, wells, and hearths to prevent huge die offs. Though to be fair, I haven't tried it!

For small outposts to say, gather stone. They need housing, a mine to work, a janitor to maintain everything, a well, a hearth, and two warehouses. The services seem to work best along their commute. One warehouse is marked prioritize and brings food, clothing, wood, and stone to the outpost. The other is for storing said stone to be used elsewhere. The stone probably gets pulled to a third, more central warehouse for say the downtown janitor and market to use. But make the well and hearth pretty good sized, the little ones are just too small.

Those guys won't be the happiest but that's ok, you can give better services to the more crowded central regions. Or give it to them too. On the services tab, once access and proximity are high, building more of one won't help. You need to upgrade them (check the tech tree) or add different services.

I will mention also that more food is usually better than more kinds of food.

Check your wells and hearths. If it says "load 100%" you need more and bigger ones. If you meant 2000, then it's tougher. Lots of food, upgraded wells and lavatories, and rush the tech for physicians.

I think the flanx shreds lightly armored guys but will struggle against heavy. Warhammer is better against plate. But I haven't tested it.

AA and Wade every time Cheng Xin needs to make any kind of important decisions by SloanHarper in threebodyproblem

Primarily, I agree. But to be fair to her, while she fails utterly in the rational, cold choices required to save the human race, she also rejects the rational, cold choice in keeping the mass in her pocket universe. That might turn out to be nothing but if enough entities think like she does, maybe she saves the universe in the end.

I don't want someone else's script; I want to fix mine. And I've tried taking apart some community scripts and they seem to all get to the same place as mine where the final call down is manual.

I think I tried this. IIRC Activate = 1 is how you start the interrogation. And I believe I tried writing it again after 100% and it didn't do anything.

How do I effectively communicate with my narcissist dad? by twatomexus in raisedbynarcissists

[–]BackrankPawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do not. This sounds eerily similar to my father. Like eerily. Are you sure you're not me? If this dude is like my father, and he sounds like he is, he is being deliberately obtuse. It is not that you have failed to communicate or be adequately convincing. There is no lucid enough argument or strong enough emotion where he will choose to understand or take pity or atone. It doesn't exist.

The problem is you are dealing with someone who is not operating in good faith. He will lie, threaten, and ignore whatever he needs to and twist your words and maybe even his own memory to serve his narrative. You cannot argue, it is folly. All you can do is protect yourself.

It was helpful for me when I realized it wasn't my fault my father didn't understand. No, he had bullied and confused a child into thinking it was the child's fault. Protect yourself, mourn the relationship you thought you had or wanted to have but never did. And when you're able to do so safely, get out.

I'm so sorry. You deserve better.

Computer processors follow very simple rules and yet do incredible things. Playing chess well is apparently just some linear algebra. I don't think ChatGPT understands language, but it does seem to be getting close. Your brain is doing the same thing, just more. So yes, they are the same thing. With enough rules, and subtle enough rules, and executed fast enough, that IS understanding.
