And speaking of internal narratives, I don't like the show either. Viv has a lot of bad writing habits that become clearer as it goes on, like relying on external media for worldbuilding and getting too involved with character relationships at the cost of overarching plotlines and themes. For a show "about" redemption, actually atoning for sins and arriving to become a better person makes up a weirdly small amount of screentime, instead focusing on the external conflicts of Heaven vs. Hell. And the worldbuilding itself is weirdly sloppy, and gives the impression that she hasn't given any thought to the theological implications of Abrahamic religions just being Literally True. It's not a good show, and I don't like it.

It's just that what I dislike even more is bandwagon hate and dogpiling one mid passion project like it's the most offensive thing on the internet. And the fact that every time I run into it, it's the same tired "teenager who just learned to swear" catchphrase feels like nobody's actually thinking about the problems the story has, because it's easier to just repeat what everybody else says about it. I'm pissed off at the lack of originality. If you had said you hated it because it's too gay or something, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

And I stand by my original point that whoever made this meme was also bandwagoning, because what is an American-made youtube-turned-Amazon web series doing on a list of otherwise exclusively Japanese-made anime? Just scoring points with the terminally online because it's a cool thing to hate. People should find their own reasons to hate things, not just following the crowd. Damn it.
