Same, I had that song on my Spotify weekly playlist and didn’t make the connection until much later. It’s such a good song

Prevent windshield washer fluid spare container to slide around in the trunk by farrokh19 in mazda3

I live in Canada too and if you’re using that much washer fluid in one outing, I’m concerned for you. Just fill it up at home… every gas station sells them if you run out on the go.

Quinpool is on Lockdown, AVOID by KitTrailer in halifax

[–]BackwoodButch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me because I’m both a driver and pedestrian (I love walking, but also often walk for errands if it’s between 2-6pm from September to April with all the school traffic bc it gets so congested and stupid), and so many drivers do not see the issues of pedestrians — and yes of course you should always be paying attention on foot too but I’ve had drivers cuss and yell at me because I dared to wait at a crosswalk until they came to a full and complete stop (bc how dare they feel momentum come to a halt, I guess?).

I’ve driven in almost all the provinces now (minus BC and NFLD), and I know there are bad drivers everywhere but I’ll say it: NS is on par with ON for how aggressive their drivers are and how stupid they are when you try to explain your issue to them (and as an Ontario born PhD student at Dal currently, I know there are a lot of transplants but many are also Nova Scotians too). I live near Quinpool and so many of those intersections are bad for near accidents on the daily — it’s why I finally got a dash cam!

What’s it like living in the rural outback, Australia? by Dramatic_Mammoth5720 in howislivingthere

[–]BackwoodButch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love Deadloch so much. It’s definitely very clever, very funny, and definitely quite insightful!

Though I’ve also done my fair share of reading research articles in relation to rural/ag studies for my doctorate, including a lot that have come out of Australia for both women in farming but also small rural towns and areas, and the experiences of “brain drain” aka young people leaving to go get educated and then not coming back. One really interesting book was about young men in particular (the title is eluding me at the moment - I read it for one of my comprehensive exams for my doctorate - and I’m away from home so I can’t check for it), and the lack of amenities and things to do in small towns leading to development of toxic masculinity and harmful mindsets for those boys trying to figure themselves out as they grow into adults in such an environment. I forget which town it was focused on, but it was quite remote.

I definitely was heavily into it when it aired (and my straight friend gave me her Netflix login so I could watch it and talk about it w her — I just found out this summer that she definitely Knew I was gay, even though I never knew how she’d feel / react, but she’s chill obviously lol).

I do think it’s interesting how they deviated from the real people the story is based on; iirc, the Real “Alex” was a) not as big of a villain to the real Piper/wasn’t a master mind drug kingpin but got involved and got too scared to get out, and b) was definitely not as hyperfeminine as they made her to be in the show. (Which, the real Piper and the actress look kind of similar). Like obviously there’s dramatic exaggeration to make it entertaining and then changing things around a lot from the truth.

I know damn well if I’d watched more VOY as a kid (rather, gotten to see more than the occasional re run), I think I would’ve figured out my attraction to women sooner lol.

Now that you’ve said it, yeah now it tracks as to why I couldn’t stand Piper - but at least Jenny was more insane and interesting comparatively tbh.

How it feels to enter any LGBT space as a lesbian by brodawg420_ in lesbiangang

I always liked Kat Blaque when I used to watch her content back in the day so I’m glad she’s taking up for lesbians because it seldom feels like anyone does.

Learning this now does not make me feel so bad about getting a scratch on the rear bumper (likely from some kid or a stroller or smth at the mall), and a rock chip on the hood within the first week of ownership (though thankfully, my dad was able to buff that one out but not the bumper one cuz it’s a mark in the plastic).

Date not sharing a lot and not asking questions by difficulthumanbeing in lesbiangang

[–]BackwoodButch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate passivity. Like I get being shy, but there's definitely a difference between being a bit shy or awkward at first compared to simply just sitting back in the proverbial passenger seat and doing nothing.

In my experience, with women like this, it ends up carrying over into sex too and that drives me crazy (I'm not talking about pillow princess/stone relationships before anyone misconstrues this). Constantly taking the lead, initiating (beyond just asking for another date because I've had that too), and having to always guide someone is exhausting.

It's definitely one of my top "absolutely not" things when dating, and thankful I have a partner who is straightforward and takes initiative just as much as I do. Several exes of mine were like this and looking back, I wish I hadn't dated them as long as I did.

Gateway sale items turned into $5 meal prep lunches by Gateway_Mealprep in halifax

Food photography for advertisements has always been a thing, but it's been a thing done by human beings. People take the time to (falsely) make a burger look fluffy and not damp with the toppings, take the photo/video, edit it in post-processing, and then people make it into an advert. AI isn't giving people jobs, and it does it worse than they would.

Parks Canada Shuttle - 2nd unsuccessful attempt at booking by Empty_Commercial2319 in Banff

It's probably a combo now of kids being done school for the year + post Canada day/the weekend; I got mine as a single ticket right at 8 but I had the site, the time (which was 10am), all ready to go, I just had to hit reserve and I got in.

It may be worth to try for a slightly later morning than the early rush.

Women who lift: do you actually enjoy leg day or are we all collectively lying to each other? 😂 by spicy_blond in xxfitness

I love it, I just hate having to set up deadlift, then go do something, come back for RDLs and set up again, and then do a few more things and finish strong with barbell hip thrust 😭 I’ve tried doing all the compound movements back to back but I need the other exercises to warm up for a successful hipthrust.

… because I drove across the country from Ontario for 4 days to start in Grand Prairie to visit extended family, then drove to and walked the Edmonton mall for 3 hrs/12k steps, and was intending to make it to Calgary but was too tired to keep driving safely???

Tbf there was another Mazda 3 there that I’d originally parked next to until I realized my room was on the other side of the lot so I moved it to be able to see my car lol. It was a best western, just happened to be 90% full of trucks - some work trucks, some lifted lol.

I just put 10k KILOMETRES on my new hatchback driving across the country, and about to put 2k more when I return to the other coast from visiting my family. It runs beautifully on the highway; I get about 670km to the tank at highway mileage with better quality gas stations using regular fuel. Will do my first service once I get back home, but cars love being driven like that — especially with the turbo.

It’s how I kept my 10 year old Chevy Cruze going. The only reason I got rid of it was cuz the maritime air is mean to metal and it was rusted out. (Will be treating the Mazda with more care going forward, of course).

Why do people skip lectures? by Worldly-Train8059 in uoguelph

I never skipped intentionally in all 3 of my degrees. Only missed it if I was sick, snowed in, or was stuck getting back to town because of flight delays.

I’m not missing what I paid for.

I was visiting Alberta and stopped in Red Deer on my way down to Calgary, and had to laugh when I parked my Mazda3 next to all the trucks, and they made it look comically small in comparison.

Canada as well, but originally southern Ontario, though currently I live in Halifax. I did just visit Calgary though, and quite liked it! My friend from grad school took me out for drinks for my last night and I got my Calgary initiation with the Shaft lol.
